In this article we will look at the changes in healthcare and the major health threats in the 21st century.

There will be several changes in healthcare in the 21st century. Prevention will be more important. This is

because many people cannot afford treatment and because medicine has become less effective. Doctors

30 need to teach patients more about diet and lifestyle to cause this change.

In the 21st century, Chinese medicine will become more scientific. This is because doctors of Chinese

medicine want it to be accepted around the world and doctors of Western medicine want to use it too.

Another reason is that producers want to sell their products to more people. However, the change will only

take place when scientists test the medicines in laboratories.

35 Another change is that countries will co-operate more to fight diseases. This is because diseases are

spreading more quickly due to travel and trade. Therefore, health organisations around the world will need

to communicate better.

There will be some major health threats in the 21st century. Bird flu is one health threat. The risk of bird

flu is that it may become a worldwide plague. Another threat is disease from food. The causes of disease

40 from food are poor hygiene and unnatural methods of producing food. A third health threat is

environmental diseases, which are caused by outdoor pollution and poor indoor air quality.
