September 10, 2013 Human Resources Woodard & Curran Portland, Maine- 04102 Dear Woodard & Curran Human Resources I am Yashika, a masters student at Georgia Tech in the department of Environmental Engineering. Im interested in working as an environmental engineering intern or co-op for your company and enhance my skill set and use it in the best interests of the company. My interest in your company stems from the career fair at Georgia Tech and also my past experience in the fields of hydrological modeling, climate change, water & waste water, emissions reduction and sustainability. Through my undergraduate studies civil engineering, I was keen in aforesaid environmental engineering aspects which is also reflected through the research works I had had taken up. As a part of my final year thesis on Time Series Comparative Analysis of Human Thermal Comfort of the Megacities of India Using Bio-meteorological Indices, I analyzed the change in temperature trends and human thermal comfort using real time weather data of 18 years for 5 megacities of India. A module of this study on Ahmedabad was presented at the 8 th International Conference on Urban Climate at Dublin, Ireland. This gave hands on experience on massive data analysis using Minitab and Excel. Also, my concept note on reducing NO x concentrations in atmosphere by using TiO 2 induced cement, was awarded amongst Ten Best Concept Notes for innovations in cement by Aditya Birla Group in India. In order to integrate sustainability concepts into civil engineering, I worked on reducing Building Energy Loads by maximizing usage of sustainable materials and natural ventilation and lights. This was quite fulfilling in that I developed a 3-D model of my university building in e-Quest(a building energy simulation software) found the energy reductions due to inculcation of sustainable concepts. Apart from research works, I lead the Know Your Water Campaign where my group studied the water quality of the samples collected from school students around various regions in Ahmedabad and then mapped it using GIS to know the distribution of various water quality parameters around the city. Also, water quality reports were handed to students individually to help them know about the appropriateness of their drinking water. Currently in my masters, Im working to develop an integrated hydrological model in MATLAB which would give correct flow estimates for both summer as well as winters contrary to the 2 models used generally. My internship with Indian Railways at Bogibeel Rail cum Road Bridge, acquainted me with the inculcation of European Design Codes for Indian conditions (done in India for 1 st time). Also, I received wide exposure on structural design as this will be longest double deck bridge in Asia. As an intern, I was involved in hydrological survey of the river and QA/QC of welding procedures and checked the fabrication drawings on behalf of client. Attached along with is my resume for you perusal for additional information on my qualifications, researches and internships. I will be glad to satisfy any queries that may arise. Thanking you in anticipation. Yours faithfully Yashika Agarwalla
