# Engine

Equipped with a liquid-cooled DOHC in-line four-cylinder, 5-valve, 998
cc engine gives increased efficiency, better cold-starting and low
maintenance. Also, return-less piping is adopted for the fuel injection
system for a more compact design. Engine parts viz. piston, cylinder,
con-rod are specially made for outstanding performance making it a true
superbike. Narrow-angle five-valve combustion chambers produce a
highly efficient 11.5:1 compression ratio.

# Special Features
1. Riding position with better machine grip feeling as the rider is able to sit
close to the front tyre and the synergy effect with the slim frame and
excellent knee grip has been realized. All these factors and a bunch of
others like optimized engine position contribute to a light athletic
handling.
2. The way the frame structure grasps the engine, short muffler and the
emphasized sense of single-unit integration of the dual headlights and
meter etc. help create an image of overall compactness.
3. Exhaust System: For environment friendliness, 3-way catalyser with O2
sensor (lambda sensor) has been added. Exhaust system with its optimum
pipe length maintains an impressive balance of performance & looks and
the hexagonal shaped muffler improves space efficiency.
4. Tires which are lightweight and five-spoke types provide optimum
rigidity characteristics between the hubs and rims and also help in
achieving a sporty and strong look.

5. Strong brakes with a MOS x 64 calliper which is characterized by
reduced calliper deformation when braking force is applied. That means
more stable braking force and better controllability during hard braking.
6. Console with unique features like brightness adjustment, tachometer,
engine temperature, timer as well as twin trip meter.
7. Other features include self-start , two piece seat with passenger grab-rails,
dual 12V 60/55-watt multi-reflector headlight for superb visibility,
Removable sub-frame and detachable passenger foot pegs.

# What could have been better
1. Experienced superbike riders used to brutal torque-enriched power
delivery from bigger bikes like the Suzuki Hayabusa may find the FZ1
lacking In low- and mid-range grunt.
2. Heat tends to rise from the engine bay and may bother the rider at low
speeds.
3. Long rides will have the rider yearning for lighter effort to shift the gears.
4. Wide, flat hand-bars and an upright seating position help the FZ1 stay
comfortable over short distances but the inadequate seat and the lack of a
fairing means high-speed cruising over 150kph is a difficult task.

The superbike is definitely out of reach for a common man due to its cost of
over 10 lakhs and a mileage of approximately 20 kmpl. But being a superbike, it
is a stunner for sure with performance no less than other superbikes and so it is
definitely worth giving a try.
