Each exhibition is accompanied by programs connecting academic life and the community. Galleries are open every week from Tuesday through Friday, 11am-4pm, and on evenings and weekends during public events. Entrance is free. Gourmet Ghettos: Modern Food Rituals This exhibition explores the relationship between ritual objects, cultural identity, and food by highlighting objects, art, archival documents, books, manuscripts, postcards, and photographs in The Magnes Collection. On view: August 28, 2014-June 26, 2015 Literary Minds: Soviet Jewish Writers portrayed by Matvey Vaisberg Recently acquired works by Ukrainian artist, Matvey Vaisberg (b. 1958), include the portraits of Yiddish writers arrested by the Soviet regime and executed on August 12, 1952. Painted on cardboard in the late 80s, these unusual works reclaim a suppressed cultural heritage at the fall of the Soviet Union. On view: August 28-December 19, 2014 The Jewish World: A Book Installation The Jewish World, which is being published by Skir- Rizzoli in the Fall of 2014, is the first comprehensive catalog featuring the holdings of The Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life. Select pages from this lavishly illustrated volume populate an installation in the Auditorium of The Magnes.
