Sailor RT5022 VHF DSC & RT5020 Duplex VHF DSC

Subject:

New software release version 2.10.16

Priority:

LOW: It is recommended that this software release be applied to units in
stock. For units sold and/or in the field it is recommended that this
update be implemented during a normal service routine.
Service calls on symptoms reported as described below may be
successfully concluded by applying this revised software to the
equipment.

Identification:

A revised software identified as version 2.10.16 has just been released for the
VHF5000 series.

This version supersedes version 2.10.15 previously released for the
RT5020/RT5022 VHFs and introduces the following change:

1) Correction of erroneous detection synthesizer lock failure.

Reported error messages Voice receiver not locked on desired frequency,
Transmitter not locked on desired frequency and/or DSC receiver not locked
on desired frequency are all a result of a change in the RX lock detect and/or
the Tx lock detect signals, indicating a synthesizer-out-of-lock condition.
The DSC synthesizer status is checked upon switch on only while status of the
Rx and Tx synthesizers is monitored once every second during reception and
transmission respectively.

Especially when the VHF antennas are installed in confined areas such as on
smaller ships with only short distance between the respective antennas, theres
a risk of the creation unwanted noise spikes in the DSC receiver path of the
radio caused by the RF transmission from a nearby Rx/Tx antenna. Such noise
spikes may cause the erroneous error detection, consequently shutting down
the transmitter.
Most often the error message may simply be acknowledged and will
subsequently disappear, while the VHF is again ready for communication.
This revised software implements a filtering of the error detection by introducing
the requirement for 3 consecutive detections of a lock failure detect signal,
before the error message is displayed and the transmitter shut down.

The software package is available for download at the Thrane & Thrane
eSupport download area: http://extranet.thrane.com/support.aspx

For details on how to upload the software package to the VHF radio refer to the
SB5006 Operator Manual.

This software package applies to both the RT5020 duplex VHF DSC and the
RT5022 simplex/semi-duplex VHF DSC, providing both of these with the
described correction and will be introduced gradually in our production.
