Lecturer in Operations and Supply Chain Management

Job Description
The Management School at the University of Sheffield is now in the top twenty of the UKs
business schools. In the 2008 RAE 95% of its research was judged to be of international
quality in terms of its originality, significance and rigour. The Management School enjoys a
strong demand for its postgraduate and undergraduate programmes. Both the MBA and
MSc programmes are AMBA accredited while the most recent NSS results rates its
undergraduate programmes as among the best in the sector. The Management School is
currently pursuing accreditation from both AACSB and Equis.

Applications are invited from candidates capable of delivering first class research and an
excellent student experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level. You will have (or be
working towards) a PhD in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Logistics or
a relevant area, or have equivalent experience.

Report to
Dean of the Management School (Professor Keith Glaister) via the Head of the Management
Division (Professor Kamel Mellahi).

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and curriculum development responsibilities at undergraduate and
postgraduate level.
Disseminate research findings through conference presentation and publications in high
quality academic journals.
Attract and manage external research grants.
Attract and supervise high quality research students.
Supervise postgraduate projects.
Undertake personal tutor responsibilities for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Contribute to Management School/Faculty administration as and when appropriate.

Planning and Organising
Teaching-related and administrative work is allocated by the Dean and/or Head of
Division.
Self-generate work through research and scholarly pursuits plus innovation in teaching
and administration.

Plan and prioritise own daily work and forward plan up to five years for some tasks. For
teaching, plan up to one year ahead unless there are significant teaching programme
changes or new courses, then plan for up to two years ahead of their introduction.
Design and deliver modules in a professional manner.
Design and undertake appropriate assessment of modules in a professional manner.
Deal with reactive requests such as those relating to teaching, supervising research staff
and students, and administrative tasks.
Delegate and monitor the work of research students.

This is a permanent post, but, depending on experience, the successful candidate may be
appointed with an initial probation period.

Salary: Grade 8: 36,715 - 43,840 per annum with the expectation of annual
incremental progression. Potential to progress to 49,342 through sustained exceptional
contribution.
