Used as a source of heat and light
Aspirator
Used for cleaning the pans of platform balance and in getting liquid with the use of a pipette
Base Burette Has a pinchcock as its stopper Beaker
A deep, wide mouthed, thin-walled, cylindrical vessel with a pouring lip used for measuring large quantity of liquid; also as container of boiling liquid mixture.
Bell Jar
A large glass jar with thick wall and used for covering and storing volatile chemicals.
Bunsen Burner
Source of heat when non-luminous flame is needed for experiment work Burette A graduated glass tube with a narrow outlet, used for delivering a measured volume of liquid or measuring the quantity of a gas or liquid collected or discharged.
Burette Brush Used for cleaning the inner sides of the burette/ Burette Clamp Used to hold the burettes in titration Centrifuge Used for whirling fluids rapidly to separate substances of different densities through artificial gravity and centrifugal force. Centrifuge Tube Used as container of the solution to be centrifuged Clamp Holder Used to hold the iron clamp Clay Triangle Used to support crucible for direct heating. Column An elongated tube used for pouring liquids at controlled amount. Condenser Used in the distillation process as the tube collecting the gas distillate so as to change it into liquid form. Connecting Tubes (Y shape, T shape, U shape, straight) Used for connecting two or more containers with the use of rubber tubing. Cork Borer Used for putting holes on the cork. Crucible and Cover A vessel for heating or melting substances requiring extreme heat and temperature. Crucible Tong Used in holding hot materials or apparatus Desiccator A glass vessel containing a drying agent and used to dry substances or to provide a dry atmosphere for chemical reaction. Distilling Flask Used as a container of the solution to be distilled in the distillation process Dropping Pipette A tube for measuring or administering liquid by drops Drying Tubes Used for hydration of calcium chloride and can serve as a funnel. Erlenmeyer flask Used for measuring large quantity of liquid; used as receiver in titration and distillation; used also as a container for liquid samples.
Evaporating Dish A porcelain dish in which a solution may be evaporated to leave the dissolved substance as a residue. Extraction Tube Used to extract a substance from the mixture or solution. Filtering Flask A specially designed flask with a sidearm for conveying filtered liquid into other vessels. Fish Tail Used for spreading the flame of the Bunsen burner. It is attached to the burners mouth. Florence Flask Used as a container for boiling liquid solution; used for measuring large quantity of liquid. Funnel A cone-shaped vessel ending in a tube at the base, used for pouring liquids or powders through a small opening, and to hold the filter paper in filtration. Graduated Cylinder Used for measuring volume of liquid Hammer A tool consisting of short, heavy crosspiece made of a hard substance (often steel) fitted at one end of a handle, different kinds being used for driving nails, beating metals, etc.
Iron Clamp Used to hold the distilling flask or test tube in distillation Iron Ring Used to hold the wire gauze and container with liquid to be heated specially in the distillation process.
Iron Stand Used to support the setup for distillation, or oil extraction process. Liquid Dropper A tube for measuring or administering liquids by drops Manometer Used to measure the pressure of liquids. Microscope An optical instrument used to examine minute objects by giving an enlarged, well resolved image of them. Mortar and Pestle Used for pounding and grinding solid substances into powder form. Pipette Used for measuring small volume of liquid direct from the reagent bottle Platform Balance Used for weighing materials accurately in various containers or vessels. Reagent Bottle A vessel usually of glass with a long slanting tube, used in distillation processes. Separatory Funnel Used for separating mixtures. Spatula An instrument with a broad, flexible, usually dull-edge blade, used for mixing, scooping or spreading soft substances and liquids. Specific Gravity Bottle A special type of bottle used t measure the specific gravity of a material Stirring Rod A slender glass shaft used for stirring and as a guide in directing the flow of liquids for pouring. Test Tube A glass tube, closed at one end used in making chemical tests; used for heating small amount of solution in experiments. Test Tube Brush Used for cleaning test tube. Test Tube Holder A metal wire device used to hold test tube. Test Tube Rack A framework of wooden or metal bars used for supporting the test tubes when not in use or while waiting for the reactions of reagents to take place. Thermometer Used for measuring temperature Thistle Tube Used for transferring volatile liquids Tripod A stand with three legs used for supporting the wire gauze and container with liquid to be heated. U- Tube A glass tube shaped in the form of letter U which can be used as a manometer. Vial Used as a container in storing small amount of solution or reagents. Volumetric Flask Used for measuring and storing large quantity of volatile liquid Wash Bottle Used as container in steaming the solution in a test tube or flask, also to prevent the solution from direct heating.
