ABSTRACT:
Re-silence property of a rubber cot can be explained in terms of ability of a rubber cot to recover or regain its original geometry without any permanent deformation. The curvature of a rubber cot at the arc of contact point will be always at high stress. In this article re- resilience property of RD68 rubber cot had been studied and how this property along with low compression set values enables the rubber cot to resume its original shape after being compressed elasticity , so that better contact area , nip length and good fibre control is achieved in spinning drafting zone. Secondly , main features of RD5610 / GA 5810 spinning bottom aprons like Low torque value , Higher tensile strength, Increased wear resistance, low compression set values , Increased abrasion resistance, elongation and tear strength properties , Adhesion strength and better bond ability between inner and outer layers had also been considered.
Cots & aprons in the drafting system along with other components play a vital role in deciding the overall spinning performance and yarn quality. Increased in output of ring spinning machines over the years is phenomenal. High speed drafting, high draft ratio increased top arm loading, increased spindle speed & productivity, yet extended buffing cycle is a common practice .To achieve better yarn quality like low IPI values, less CV% and good mass uniformity, re-silence property along with other important properties like low compression set value, anti-lapping characteristic plays a crucial role in deciding the yarn quality and also to afford good spinning performance. The idea is to have RD68 as front line cots for ring spinning application. Apart from front line cots, Top / Bottom aprons also play a central role in providing better yarn quality with high consistentency and good overall spinning performance. The number of spindles / frame on short staple spinning machines has continually increased; the energy consumption of the top arm weighting arms was more. The idea is have low torque value aprons so that the whole machines energy utilization is balanced. Low torque value bottom aprons like RD 5610 / GA 5810 helps in achieving it. Other factors like increased tensile strength, high wear resistance, increased abrasion resistance, better elongation and tear strength properties along with improved adhesion strength between reinforcing cord layer with top and bottom layer results in overall benefits like less energy consumption , Withstands very high mechanical strain during high speed drafting application, no channeling or grooving takes place, optimum fibre guidance within apron zone , maintains overall shape and structural rigidity, resistance to surface deformity and hence pre-mature depression, enhanced flexibility.

Resilience property of a RD68 cot:
In general re-silence may be defined as the property of a material that enables it to resume its original shape or position after being bent, stretched, or compressed; elasticity. In physics and engineering, resilience is defined as the capacity of a material to absorb energy when it is deformed elastically and then, upon unloading to have this energy recovered. In other words, it is the maximum energy per volume that can be elastically stored. It is represented by the area under the curve in the elastic region in the Stress-Strain diagram for normal materials. In rubber, resiliency may be defined as the ratio of the returned to the impressed energy i.e.., and resilience is a measure of the ability of the rubber vulcaunizates to return the energy used to deform it.
Re-silence property of a rubber cot can also be explained in terms of ability of a rubber cot to recover or regain its original geometry without any permanent deformation. The curvature of a rubber cot at the arc of contact point will be always at high stress.
Fig - 1 Where X is the wall thickness of the rubber cot measured diametrically opposite to arc of contact point with steel bottom roller
X X is the wall thickness of the rubber cot measured at the contact point with steel bottom roller .Under loaded condition X X < X this is due to the fact that rubber being an elastic material is compressed elastically by doing so, it absorbs the energy when it is deformed elastically and then upon relaxation it returns the energy back and original geometry is maintained. So, the relaxation time is a very important factor that determines the ultimate recovery of rubber surface upon unloading.

Fig- 3
Torque value, energy consumption of top arm weighting system
In todays scenario, the number of spindles on short staple spinning machines has continually increased; the energy consumption of the top arm weighting arms was initially more. The idea is have low torque value aprons so that the whole machines energy utilization is balanced.
Low apron torque values helps in achieving it. Currently, to achieve improved yarn regularity of the drafted strand, closer spacing on the top arms are used so that the net load on bottom aprons is very high. At the same time high draft ratio is kept in most of the ring frames that again adds load to apron zone .Hence greater flexibility of apron is needed so as to accommodate the narrow radius at the nose bar (A typical bottom apron in cotton spinning ring frames makes 7000 9000 turns per day at the nose bar this is nothing but the frequency of flexing) .
Initial start up of long ring frame Vs torque value of apron:
Whenever a Ring frame is stopped for doffing or any other reason the entire drafting zone components come to rest. During re-starting, the steel bottom rollers must accelerate to reach its maximum surface speed. Based on the draft distribution or draft ratio. The crucial part is that each bottom apron having 30 mm width and a wrap angle of more than 90 must accelerate to match the surface speed of middle bottom roller .Otherwise; the entire middle zone will lag behind actual speed momentarily.
The energy consumption / spindle / drafting zone will increase if the torque value of the apron is high. Since Torque value is directly proportional to power consumption
Power consumption/spindle/drafting zone = Torque value x Angular speed of roller
Higher tensile strength:
Withstands very high mechanical strain during high speed drafting application which is common in most of the modern ring frames. As a result no deformation / depression take place on aprons during its service life so that very high quality consistency can be achieved.
Increased wear & abrasion resistance:
High Resistance to wear-out even with minimum or nil traverses. Special ingredients in the compound for both inner and outer layer imparts wear & abrasion resistance as a result no channeling or grooving takes place. Very high wear resistance characteristics of outer layer even with high Dwelling time The outer layer of RD5610 / GA 5810 spinning apron is finish ground to provide it a defined roughness for optimum fibre guidance. The maximum load is placed on traverse zone hence abrasion and the pressure from the bundle of fibres lead to the formation of groove will be minimized.
Lower compression set values:
High warp resistant, maintains overall shape and structural rigidity even after continuous usage. Basic dimension and geometry of the aprons remains same after prolonged usage. Improvement in resistance to surface deformity and hence pre-mature depression. The reinforcement layer gives the apron its overall dimensional stability
Better Elongation properties and tear strength.
Improvement in elongation at break enhanced flexibility, improved resistance to cuts, damages consequent to sharp turns etc. At the same time reinforcement layer of bottom apron must have nominal break point so that due to some mechanical reasons if the apron is clamped between the bottoms steel roller and the nose bar.
Adhesion strength and better bond ability between inner and outer layers:
Improvement in bonding between reinforcing cord layer with inner / outer layer results in maintaining aprons good overall dimensional stability. Current methods are adopted with well defined parameters to achieve very tight inner diameter tolerance. Adhesion strength and better bond ability helps in maintaining good tensile properties with better elongation values.

Conclusion:
Due to excellent resilience property and low compression set values, RD68 spinning front line cot (Both in Normal ring spinning and also in compact spinning) provides improved fibre control and better grip on drafted strands of fibres by having good contact area , nipping length with bottom steel fluted roller . As an outcome even by increased front roller speeds with high draft ratio, mass uniformity of drafted strand (yarn) remains superior with low CV% and IPI values (Refer table 1 & 2). Due to low torque value, high tensile strength, better elongation and tear strength with increased wear and abrasion resistance properties , RD5610 / GA5810 spinning bottom aprons gives better energy utilization or energy balance especially in long frames and with stands very high mechanical strains during high speed drafting with increased load. high resistance to wear-out even with minimum or nil traverses as a result no channeling or grooving takes place high warp resistant, maintains overall shape and structural rigidity even after continuous usage Better reinforcement layer gives the apron its overall dimensional stability and low compression set values helps to Improve resistance to surface deformity and hence pre-mature depression .Improvement in elongation and elongation at break values results in superior flexibility even at high frequency of flexing ( sharp turns made on the nose bar ). RD68 front line cot with RD5610 / GA5810 bottom apron is a unique combination that will deliver consistent and superior yarn quality and improves overall spinning performance.
