The Project
Keep it Simple, Make it Fast! (KISMIF) is a
research project that aims to analyze punk
manifestations in Portugal from their origins
to present days (1977-2012).
KISMIFs approach is transdisciplinary
(anthropology, history, journalism, psychology,
sociology) and deals with different time and
space frames, in both synchronic and diachronic
manners, in order to unveil the curtains that
hide this barely visible and complex research
object.
The Punk Archive (1)
Looking into the history of
punk in Portugal highlighted
the need for a systematic and
structured approach concerning
the very diverse, unrecorded,
scattered memories and
evidences of the genesis and
consolidation of this movement
The Punk Archive (2)
Building up the Portuguese Punk Archive is one of
the main tasks of the KISMIF Project. Right from the
start, the project aimed at creating a set of tools
and a platform for archiving, cataloguing,
preserving and publicly showing the memories of
Portuguese punk.
But how could
we actually
put our arms
around these
memories?
Challenges
The (social and political) nature of punk and
punk scenes
Challenges
The diversity and dispersion of materials
The lack of experience in building up and
managing the materials that such an archive
must contain
The lack of investment and public interest in
archives that collect and organize elements of
contemporary (peripheral) popular culture
Goals
Rescuing and
preserving the
individual and
collective memories of
the movement, thought
as part of Portugals
contemporary history.
Goals
Providing the members of this universe with an
opportunity to tell and share their particular
stories and points of view, and to contest the
mainstream/dominant/eventually reductive
perception of the phenomenon.
Goals
Providing researchers and the wider public
with an open-access, user-friendly platform,
allowing for further research, debate and
national and international comparison.
Materials
Collected directly by the research team
Donated by participants
