1 Introduction

The object of this document is to define a procedure to upgrade ALC plus radio links from system versions PRALPI10
01.00.01 or PRALPI11 01.01.00 to system version 01.02.02

The upgrade is traffic affecting: this procedure minimizes
the duration of traffic interruption. The upgrade procedure covers also the WebLCT upgrade from versions 01.00.0x

or
01.01.00 to version 01.01.01
This procedure is applicable to each ALC plus equipment of the network: it is presented as a procedure applicable using
the SCT/LCT, both from a local connection or from a remote one, or the WebLCT. All the download durations reported
in this document refers to a LAN connection between PC and equipment.

4 Preliminary check
Before starting the upgrade procedure be sure of the status of the equipment to be downloaded. In the SCT window
Current alarms verify the absence of internal alarms, i.e. alarms related to:
hardware module failures
software module failure
hardware or software mismatch
units not responding.

If the download is performed on a terminal connected to the SCT via the PPP radio, verify also the absence of any alarm
related to the radio connection, i.e.:
RX power low
TX power low
HBER, LBER or EWL.

The presence of any other kind of alarm must in any case be justified and its cause known before proceeding with the
download procedure.

We suggest not to perform the upgrade in presence of alarms.

In any case, even if no alarm is present, save the Fault Report (generated via the SCT or the WebLCT) as a reference, to
verify after the upgrade that no further alarms appeared and to have a reference about the inventory.

To assure the possibility to perform a downgrade back from 01.02.02 to 01.00.01/01.01.00 versions, or in any case to
recover the equipment if something goes wrong during the upgrade, before performing the download of version
01.02.02 you must save all the configuration data (using the SCT Configuration Wizard or the Backup/Restore function
of WebLCT).

Note: Saving the configuration before proceeding with the download of a new version is always recommended, even if
no downgrade is foreseen.

5 SW upgrade with SCT
In the following chapters a list of the necessary downloads is provided. Please, be sure to have read previous chapter 4
before performing the upgrade. To perform the SW upgrade with the WebLCT please refer to chapter 6.

5.1 Preliminary set-up
All downloads must be performed with the SCT connected as System. The local equipment (the one the SCT is
physically connected to) is usually connected as System during the SCT connection procedure, while if you need to
download remote equipment, you must perform a Login. After clicking on the equipment in the Alarm Summary /
ManOP / Station section of the SCT window, click on the Login button in the toolbar (see Figure 1)

The Remote Login window shall pop-up (see Figure 2). Insert SYSTEM as User, SIAEMICR as Password and click on
the OK button: the selected equipment shall be connected as System.

To perform a download you have to open the SCT window Version. Right-click with your mouse on the relevant
equipment, in the Alarm Summary / ManOP / Station section of the SCT window, and select the Version item in
the pop-up menu that shall appear, as shown in Figure 3.

the versions - will be different from the example).

In one bench you will have, as the running software version, PRALPI10 01.00.01 or PRALPI11 01.01.00. The other
bench could be Loaded or Not Loaded.
From now on you can start the downloading procedure: click on the Download SW Setup button.

5.2 N90566 Equipment Controller application download

In the SCT window Download setup select download type Forced. Choose the correct Download file path where the
file n90566.dwl is present on your PC (see as an example the following Figure 5: please note that the path in the
example may not correspond to the one you have).

Press Start to execute the download. Confirm the command clicking on the Proceed to download? button, like in
Figure 6.

A window similar to the following will appear, giving the status of the download (the actual name of the equipment and
path to the file will be different from the ones shown in Figure 7):

After starting the download, the relevant Status message is present in the log window of the SCT.

During the download the Downloading Warning is present in the summary panel.

At the end of the download the relevant Status message (Software Download Completed) is present in the log window
of the SCT, and the new Software Version is present in the previously unused bench of the Equipment Software
Version window of the SCT (you could need to close and re-open this window to allow its content to be updated).

Important note: if a Software Download Aborted message is present in the log window of the SCT or if the
Software Download Completed message is not present, the download has not been properly performed.

When the download is completed click on the Bench Switch button to switch on the new memory bench (see Figure 8).

6 SW upgrade with WebLCT
In the following chapters a list of the necessary downloads is provided. Please, be sure to have read previous chapter 4
before performing the upgrade. To perform the SW upgrade with the SCT please refer to chapter 5. To perform the
download an FTP server must be running on the PC where the firmware is located: this is automatically attained if you
connect to WebLCT from the WLC (WebLCT Console) or from the SCT.

All downloads must be performed with the WebLCT connected as System. The local equipment (the one the WebLCT
Console is physically connected to) is usually connected as System during the WebLCT login procedure, while if you
need to download remote equipment, you must perform a Login. To login on the remote equipment click on the Login
tab in the upper right part of the WebLCT window (see Figure 9).

The Change Login window shall pop-up. Insert SYSTEM as User, SIAEMICR as Password and click on the Login
field: the remote equipment shall be connected as System.

To perform a download you have to click on the Software info & Maintenance item in the WebLCT main menu. The
Software Info & Maintenance window shall appear, as shown in Figure 10.

6.2 N90566 Equipment Controller application download

In the WebLCT window Sw Download select download type Forced. Click on the Browse local system field to
specify the file to be dowloaded: in the window that will pop-up browse your filesystem and select the file n90566.dwl
(see as an example the following Figure 12: please note that the path in the example may not correspond to the one you
have).
Warning: the path to file n90566.dwl can contain only standard ASCII characters, without accented characters or
similar. If characters other than standard ASCII characters are present the download may fail.

After starting the download, the relevant Status message is present in the Event list of the WebLCT.

During the download the Downloading Warning is present in the WebLCT summary panel.

At the end of the download the relevant Status message (Download Started) is no more active in the Event list of the
WebLCT, and the new Software Version is present in the previously unused bench of the Software Info & Maintenance
window of the WebLCT (you could need to click on the Refresh button to allow its content to be updated).

Important note: if a Software Download Aborted message is present in the Event list of the WebLCT, the download
has not been properly performed.

When the download is completed click on the Bench Switch Tab to switch on the new memory bench (see Figure 16).

7 WebLCT upgrade
In the following chapters the WebLCT upgrade is described.
All downloads must be performed with the WebLCT connected as System. The local equipment (the one the WebLCT
Console is physically connected to) is usually connected as System during the WebLCT login procedure, while if you
need to download remote equipment, you must perform a Login. To login on the remote equipment click on the Login
tab in the upper right part of the WebLCT window (see Figure 17).

7.2 N96101 WebLCT download

Click on the Browse button to browse your filesystem and select file Webs_16_N96101_1.1.2.tar. In the WebLCT
windows youll see the status change to Ready to upload Webs_16_N96101_1.1.2.tar.

Click on the Upload button and confirm clicking on the Yes button.

The WebLCT download will start and the status of the download will be shown. At the end of the download the
following message will appear:

8 Final check
After the upgrade procedure is finished, verify the status of the equipment by opening the SCT window Current
alarms or looking at the WebLCT Event list and verifying the absence of alarms.

If before starting the upgrade procedure some alarms were present, compare the list of the current alarms with the
previously saved ones.

If any new alarm is present, perform the download of the previously saved configuration, using the SCT Configuration
Wizard, in the Tools menu, or the Backup/Restore Configuration function of the WebLCT and then verify again the
alarm status.
