"What I disagree with is the ideological commitment to
absolute minimum sentences in all circumstances, where the
government takes away the discretion of a judge, a lawyer, a
crown attorney, a probation officer who has prepared a presentence report and they say, perhaps, that in a minor
incident of possession of marijuana plants there is a better
solution than to throw the fellow in jail.

We agree with stiffer fines and jail terms for
marijuana grow-ops, but the penalties are still at the
discretion of judges. We need mandatory minimum
sentences to ensure that judges do not continue to give
sentences that are far less than the increased maximum
penalties for growing, said Vellacott."

currently flooding the U.S. with marijuana, the U.S.
ambassador has expressed that the Liberal
government's relaxing of drug laws could make CanadaU.S. border problems even worse. While Liberals play to

"Mr. Speaker, I listened to the member and he thinks that
marijuana is not a drug that should be criminalized, that it
should be decriminalized. I wonder what he thinks of the RCMP
operational intelligence, in that the superintendent from the
Surrey detachment said, What can't be debated is that
cannabis is a currency for organized crime. When I did a tour
of my riding when we were talking about the dangers of
marijuana, there was a concern in the school districts that the
drug dealers would definitely lace marijuana with drugs that
would be dangerous to young people."

"You heard Mrs. DeGroote say that Halton has some of the worst problems in this
respect. Marijuana is the drug of choice for young people. In grades 7 to 12, 34%
use marijuana. And it causes depression, it's linked with many cancers including
brain cancer, it can cause psychosis, and it leads to diabetes. It's also linked to
automobile accidents and industrial accidents, including death. So we're the party
who wants to keep marijuana illegal for all of those reasons."

Mr. Speaker, the Liberal leader theorizes that the only way to keep marijuana out
of the hands of children is to legalize it and regulate it. .... In addition to their
leader, the pied piper of pot, pro-marijuana Liberals include the cannabis
queen, Jodie Emery, a Liberal nomination candidate in Vancouver East, and Liberal
Party CFO, Chuck Rifici, who made millions selling his shares in his medical
marijuana company.
Liberals want to be the party party. Unfortunately, they do not seem to care that
legalizing marijuana would be abandoning the health and welfare of Canadian
youth.
