A Journey of NEW Life

a CHRISTmas musical

A journey of life is a CHRISTmas cantata displaying the miraculous birth of our
savior Jesus Christ. The musical will be montage of music, drama, dance and
the performing arts.

My vision is to break this down in 4 stages/scenes/scenarios.

1. The Charge (Luke 1:26-38)
(Narrator)
26
In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in
Galilee,
27
to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a
descendant of David. The virgins name was Mary.
28
The angel went to her
and said, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you."
29
Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of
greeting this might be.
30
But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid,
Mary, you have found favor with God.
31
You will be with child and give
birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.
32
He will be great
and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him
the throne of his father David,
33
and he will reign over the house of Jacob
forever; his kingdom will never end."
Scene # 1 Mary and angel (drama written off the scripture. It needs to be
heartfelt, comedic and compelling. Driving home the point how could
this be? At the same time assuring her that nothing is impossible with
God).
During this scene Mary will sing I believe after the dialogue and the
angels departure.
After the song I believe we will transition to another scenario. Now,
the word has gotten out about this miraculous conception. Although
Mary was full of faith after the encounter with the angel, once she
begins to go into the marketplace, the people begin to mock her and
cause her to doubt the word she just received. As she continues to walk,
people are giving her weird looks; some are being sarcastic about her
being pregnant by the Holy Spirit. She keeps walking and begins to cry,
as she sees (hears) more people ahead, she detours in a little space
where there is a old man sitting reading. She lets out a sigh of relief
because she escaped the crowd.

PEOPLE WILL BE PEOPLE SCENCE:

(In this scene, Mary begins to cry and vent)

Mary: Why are people being so mean? How could this be happening to
me? That angel assured me I would be ok. Yeah right, I cant even go into
town without people laughing and poking fun at me. How did this news
even get out? That angel and his big mouth UGH God, how could you
let people be so mean?. I have a promise from you and now Im
doubting that this is even real.

Old man: (he laughs and startles Mary): Nothing is impossible with God,
honey.

Mary: Who are you?

Old man: Who am I doesnt matter. Im trying to figure out did you
forget who YOU are. You just said God gave you a promise. He even sent
an angel, a REAL angel down to earth to tell. If that aint express mail, I
dont know what it is.

Mary: I know but people are so mean. The word got out and now their
making fun of me, judging me, calling me crazy and all kind of names. All
of this craziness is making me doubt what was even said to me. I know I
have a promise from God. I know he sent the angel to tell me, but the
Peo (he cuts her)

Old man: Are you going to let people talk you out of what God told you?
Listen, people will be people. Not everyone is rooting for you. Not
everyone is cheering you on. Sometimes its your own family. BUT if God
said it, you better stand firm, square your shoulders and step out on
what He said. Come on, stand firm, square your shoulders and step out
there (motions her to stand firm, square her shoulders and step out).

Mary: (with her back turn to the old man now) I can do this. If He spoke
it, will he not complete it? Come on Mary, get it together girl! (She turns
to thank the old man) Thaan---k (the old man is gone) (She looks for
him and begins to reprise I believe)

Mary: Now if I could only convince Joseph. Ugh Aint nobody got time for
that. (fade to black)

DO THE RIGHT THING SCENE

(Narrator)
While Mary was still engaged to Joseph, she miraculously became pregnant
through the Holy Spirit, as foretold to her by the angel. When Mary told Joseph
she was pregnant, he had every right to feel disgraced. He knew the child was
not his own, and Mary's apparent unfaithfulness carried a grave social stigma.
Joseph not only had the right to divorce Mary, under Jewish law she could be
put to death by stoning.

Joseph is home pacing the floor when he gets a knock on the door.

Joseph: Who is it?

James: Its James, open up

Joseph: (opens door and peeks out). I already know why youre here. You
mustve have heard. Its all over town.

James: Actually, I came to borrow some sugar but since you brought it
up, lets have seat (James is very calm and comedic)

Joseph: Now you know as well as I do, that child is not mine. I havent
touched Mary. I havent looked upon Mary in that manner.

James: Well, looks like we got a real life episode of Cheaters in
Nazareth. I love that show (he bursts out in laugher but it quickly ends
when he sees Joseph is not smiling)

Joseph: Man, this isnt the time to be laughing. I dont know what to do.
I love her but I dont think I can stay with her. Were not even married
yet and Im ready to divorce her. Not to mention the humility were going
to face

James: HUMILTY, my brother.. Youve bigger issues than that. Your
woman or shall I say ex- woman can be stoned to death. So, you need
to figure this out quick. You know I got your back and will support
whatever you decide to do.

Joseph: Yeah, I appreciate that. I just need some answers and I need
them fast.

James: Well, Ill give you some space, so you can clear your head (James
exits, but peaks his head back in) Joseph!!!

Joseph: What? (with a concerned look on his face)

James: You are NOT the father (laughs)

Joseph: Get out of here!!!

CUE MUSIC (Joseph sings a little of What Shall I Do?

After the song, he falls asleep and the visitation begins.

Angel: Joseph! Joseph!

Joseph: (is startled and wondering why an angel is talking to him)l Huh, what,
who, what?....

Angel: I know youre a good man and youre worried about the outcome of all
of this. Let me assure you today that Mary is telling the truth. God sent an
angel, just like me to visit her and bring her good news. She indeed is pregnant
with the son of God. The Holy Spirit came upon her and she in carrying the
savior of the world. His name; Jesus! So, before you go and call it quits, think
again. Go to Mary, love her, show compassion to her, make her your wife. God
doesnt make mistakes, Joseph. He chose you for this very situation, at this
very time for this very reason. Go in peace and stress no more! (The angel
disappears)

Joseph: (awakes with a peace and assurance) Ive got to do the right thing! Let
people talk. One word from God changes everything!! Mary, here I come baby.

WORSHIPING THE SAVIOR SCENE
(Narrator)
At that time, Caesar Augustus decreed that a census be taken, and every
person in the entire Roman world had to go to his own town to register.
Joseph, being of the line of David, was required to go to Bethlehem to register
with Mary. By this time, Mary was well with child and soon to deliver. They
began their journey to Bethlehem only to find no place for the baby to be
born.

(Choir will sing from their reserved space) Away in a manger

While this happening, Mary and Joseph are walking on the stage and there are
NO VANCAY signs everywhere. The screens will flash NO ROOM! NO ROOM!

Finally, they find a little space (the stable) and they set up there (center
stage)
All of this taking place as the sung is being played (4:00).

SONG ENDS

Out in the fields, an angel of the Lord appeared to the shepherds who were
tending their flocks of sheep by night. The angel announced that the Savior had
been born in the town of David.

Angel # 3: Here ye! Here ye! The Savior is has been born in the town of David.
He is here. What a wonderful gift to the world. God has sent us a special gift.
Go, see the baby, go see the gift. GO, GO,GO

(Suddenly a great host of heavenly beings (the dancers) appeared with the
angels and began singing praises to God)

CUE SPECIAL GIFT (dancers will dance from the floor)

As the angelic beings (dancers) departed, the shepherds decided to travel to
Bethlehem and see the Christ-child. They gathered their belongings and begin
to move quickly. By this time star begin to shine in the East. The wise men
knew that that was the sign of the birth to the king of the Jews.

The wise are placed up in the balcony (they will come down the stairs with
gifts and make their way to center stage to the stable).

HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT THE BABY? (Soundtrack will play while their moving
SLOWLY) 2:37.

They finally all arrive and Joseph is overjoyed:

Joseph: Look at Him, Look at Him. Hes here. Hes here! (Joseph checks for 10
fingers and 10 toes).

Mary: Oh, Joseph God saw fit to trust us with this treasure. He chose us! People
talked about us, spread rumors and even turned their back on us. They didnt
stop us. We didnt abort the promise God gave us.

Joseph: Thats right, Mary. Who wouldve imagined a King. Who? (They both
smile)

WHO WOULD IMAGINE A KING (Childrens Choir)

While the childrens are singing, the wise men are presenting their gifts and
marveling at the beauty of the baby.
