DEFINICION CONCEPTUAL DE UAV TACTICOS EN MISIONES ISTAR

REQUERIMIENTOS OPERACIONALES TIPICOS

• Current requirements for mobile forces require intermediate range ISR

missions (minimum 30 km ) from land and sea .
• Other forces requirements push for rapid deployment of UAV system in
the battlefield by helicopters, cargo aircraft ,small craft or light ground
vehicles
• Quiet , fast reaction UAV systems are needed for day/night operations
with limited human resources
• Quick deployment and post deployment are essential to mobile forces
• Persistent Surveillance requires long endurance and high reliability of
components (4 hours minimum )
• Easy to operate and compact ground control station is also a need for
forces deployed with minimum resources
Concept Definition
Typical Operational Requirements II

• Integration with land observation systems

and battle managment system is mandatory
• Low acoustic signature as well as IR and
Radar signatures are mandatory to keep the
operative force undetected
• Weight of the overall system ( UAVs ,
Container-Launcher, GCS ) shall be less than
50 kg
• Rugged UAV and rugged system are specific
requirements for forces that are operating in
harsh environments .
• UAV shall be able to perform a high rate of
climb, sustain several operation modes, have
long endurance, be able to sustain very
quiet operation mode , be airborne in very
short time with minimum preparation

STATE OF THE ART :
MINI UAV MEDIUM/LONG ENDURANCE CAPABILITY

Issues :
• Electrical powered UAV will not reach long endurance due battery energy density. ,so
persistent surveillance is not possible with power system. Fuel cell technology in the
foreseeable future will extend the endurance but limited to 4 to 6 hours with limited
extra electrical power on-board
• Current players powered by internal combustion engines ,are using either modified
engines from model aircraft or small machines manufacturers .So realibility and
airworthiness is an unresolved issue
• Multi -fuel engines with injection system are not used by current players
• Injection system with electronic control to get automatic altitude compensation is not
used by current players
• Advanced airframes and aerodynamic concept elaborated around a high technology
engine has not been the case in the UAV industry
• Minimum requirements for launch and recovery as well as operation has not been the
standard for the current systems in use.
System Main Design Goals

• Engine Integration
• Wing Design
• Fuel System
• Sensor integration
• Operational Flexibility
Design Innovation :
•Fully Integrated Airframe
around the engine
•Wing design : flaps and
ailerons with positive and
negative deflections adapting
the wing lift to minimize drag
and flight regimes flexibility
•Catapult Launched for
extreme endurance and
capability of hand launch for
limited endurance
•Recovery at minimum weight
using deep stall technique and
airbag
•Minimum weight at landing is
achieved by expeling remain
fuel in the tank

Small Tactical UAV Caburei
Lateral Gyrostabilized EO - Sensor

A Low Cost Solution for Small Tactical Electrical

Powered UAV to Improve EO Sensor Capabilities
Small UAVs State of the Art
Most of the small UAV in the tactical battlefield with weights under 4 Kilograms are only
equipped with fixed frontal and lateral EO sensors. These sensors packages have strong
limitations to use zoom and usually the flight altitude is very low in order to engage
targets in the ground .
