ResultsandInterpretations
Theseresultsarebeingobtainedfromamagnetostaticsimulation witharbitrary
constantcurrentinputsdefinedforeachleg.Thenotationused wasintermsof3
phases,whichmightimplythatthisisanACinductorofsomesort.Themodeling
ofACcurrentsinamagnetostaticsimulationcansometimesbevalidfor
instantaneousvalues(offorceandinductance),buttherequirementsarethat
eddycurrentsdonoteffectthesolution(eitheralowfrequency sourceorlowloss
materials).TheothertwooptionsavailableintheMaxwellsoftwareareeddy
currentsimulations(whichallowsACsources,butdoesnotallow nonlinear
materials),andtransientsimulations(whichallowsthestudyof nonlinearandAC
phenomena).
Thistypeofmagnetostaticsimulationwouldalsobevaluablefor anEquivalent
CircuitExtraction(again,eddycurrentsshouldbenegligible)- thiswouldrequire
eachphasetobeexcitedasavariable,andrunasafullparametricsimulation
includingallphasesacrossallpossiblecurrentvalues(atleast5^3variationsto
seeanynonlinearbehavior).Noticethatifyoudoanequivalentcircuitextraction
oftheinductance,thefluxvaluesautomaticallytakeintoaccountthegrouping
andotherpost-processingvaluesspecifiedinthematrixparameter.
Othermagnetostaticresultscanbeobtainedfromthissimulation,suchasforce
ontheCore_Iobjectandmagneticfieldinthesteel(isitsaturating?).
Rememberthatthissimulationusesnonlinearmaterials,soallofthesolutions
areonlyvalidforthisspecificsetofexcitations.Ifyouweretochangetheinput
currents,thenyouwillhavetosolveagaintoseehowtheinductanceandother
resultschange.
Anotherimportantnoteisthatalthoughweincluded2matrixparameters,thisis
notnecessarytoseedifferentlypost-processedresults. Youcaneditthepost-
processingcharacteristicsofthematrixafterhavingsolvedthe problem,andthe
resultswilladjusttoreflectthechangeswithoutneedingtoresolve.Theonly
timethatyouwouldneedmultiplematricesisifonematrixortheotherdidnot
includeallthecoils.Byusingtwomatrices,theinductancecalculationwas
performedtwice,lengtheningthesimulation. Thepointofthisexamplewasto
showthatmultiplematrixparameterscanbedefined nottosuggestusing
multiplematrixparameters.

CreatingMatrixParameters
Nowthattheexcitationsareredefined,thematrixhastoberedefined.The

Whenmatrixparametersaredefined,acheckwillbeperformedforproper
conductionpathsandforterminalscorrectlydefinedacrossacross-sectionofthe
conductionpaths.Severalerrorscanappearwhendefiningamatrix,andthese
oftenhavetodowiththedefinitionoftheconductingobjectsortheexcitation.
Theexcitationsthatappearinthematrixsetup,arethoseexcitationsthatare
pointingintotheconductor.So,forasymmetrymodelthatrequirestwo
