You Receive Remarkably Fine Turnings at Bigh Produc-
tion with This Modern Crescent Smooth-Running, Lathe ...
Here you have a Lathe that will consistently turn
out fine detailed work at a high rate of produc
tion. It embodies the best features of good lathe
design and construction together with other ad
vantages that will pay big dividends to you.
It is an extremely rugged, heavy machine, capa
ble of hard usage under all types of conditions.
The massive one-piece cabinet type main head
frame, the heavy cast iron bed, the exceptionally
accurate machining, the extra heavy spindle-
all go to produce this exceptional lathe. In addi-
tion, it is equipped with a variable speed regu
lator giving you speeds of 500 to 3500 r.p.m. with
any intermediate speed you desire which can
be easily and quickly adjusted while the lathe
is in operation- a feature that every wood turner
appreciates. The V-14 is a profit earner in wood-
working and pattern shops and provides an excel-
lent basic training unit for industrial art classes.
For specific details see the following page.
The Crescent V-14 LATHE is a Versatile Rugged
Unit that gives you Bigh Production
at Exceptionally Low Cost
EVERY good principle of lathe design and con-
struction is employed in this Crescent ,V-14
Lathe. It has a surplus of power for heavy industrial
work and rough cutting. It is extremely accurate so
that the finest detailed work can be produced eco-
nomically. It has an abundance of ruggedness so
that it will give you exceptionally long, profitable
service. It is simple in construction.
THE HEAD STOCK- The main
head frame is a solid one-
piece casting which provides
a rigid support lor the head
stock spindle. It encloses the
variable s p e e d drive, the
m o tor and control switch.
Being completely self-contain-
ed, it keeps the operating units
in perfect alignment . A large
door at the front, easily re
moved, provides simple access
to the motor and variable
speed drive. All moving parts
are enclosed, providing pro-
tection to the operator. Lugs
are provided for bolting the
lathe to floor if desired.
THE SPINDLE ARBOR - The
heart of any good lathe re-
volves around the design and
construction of the spindle.
The V-14 Crescent Lathe has
an exceptional spindle. Made
of heavy special alloy steel
and running in deep groove ball bearings it runs perfectly true
for accurate work. The bearings eliminate all end play and absorb
all end thrust. The out-board arbor contains an indexing device
with a wide selection of stops so that it is simple to do fluting and
other operations: A special face plate is furnished lor the out-board
arbor which permits turning stock that is too large to swing over
the bed. The out-board arbor has left hand threads, 1 'Is inches in
diameter, 10 threads per inch. The inboard arbor is fitt ed with
a threaded four-point spur center. It has right hand threads, 10
per inch, is 1 'Is inches in diameter.
THE VARIABLE SPEED DRIVE provides a wide selection of speeds
from 500 to 3500 r.p.m. and all intermediate speeds. A convenient
hand wheel at the top regulates the speeds. The illustration above
shows details of the variable speed transmission. Speeds may be
adjusted while machine is in operation. There is no shut down
and loss of production where speed must be changed. Speeds
are accurately determined by a scale and pointer on the housing
door, easily visable from the operator' s position. Standa rd V-belts
are used in the drive mechanism and are easily replaceable.
LUBRICATION of the spindle and variable speed mechanism is pro-
vided by convenient and easily accessible cup feed oilers that
require a minimum of attention.
ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT- The motor and switch are located in the
cabinet type main head frame totally enclosed, thus protected from
all dust and dirt. A convenient push button start-and-stop switch
on the door provides simple control. Louvers at the bottom of
the door assure the necessary ventilation for the motor. All wiring
in flexible conduit.
LATHE BED- The bed of the V-14 Lathe is an oversize heavy well-
seasoned casting which ' gives a rigid and perfect support for the
tailstock and the tool rest. It is accurately machined and solidly
bolted to the main head frame casting and the heavy cast iron
legs. The bed is available in three different lengths providing
a distance of 48, 60 or 72 inches between centers. When ordering
be sure to specify length desired.
THE TAIL STOCK- Here again you find a heavy, massive casting
that assures accurate work. A convenient hand lever at the back
locks the tail stock firmly in place. The hand adjustment wheel
regulates the tail center for clamping the stock in place. A posi-
tive type clamp locks the center firmly. A cup center is furnished.
The knurled small hand knob ejects the center when desired.
THE TOOL REST is a marvel of convenience because it is fully ad-
justable and easily put into any position desired. The horizontal
arm allows the tool rest to be swung into any position, thus provid-
ing the necessary support for the turning tools. The rest locks
solidly to the heavy bed by the convenient handle in front. No
special wrenches are needed for locking either the tool rest or the
tail stock.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES- Described above are the features which
make the Crescent V-14 Lathe a favorit e in production shops.
Added to these are many others such as the broad hardwood
shelf for tool storage and accessories. Then there is the smart
modern appearance of the entire assembly which fits in well not
only in the woodworking shop, but in the school shop also.
