INSIGHTS ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF K TO 12 CURRICULUM

I . AT FIRST GLANCE
The implementation of K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum has
faced controversies and issues contradictory to the full blast
realization of the said education system breakthrough. Eorts !ere
gathered" information !as disseminated to be able to reach millions
of #ilipinos in all !alks of life and made them came up in supporting
the above$ mentioned development.
%ear 2&1'" !hich is the 2
nd
year of K to 12 implementation" is one
of the challenging years for us educators" facilitators and
stakeholders to take. (e !ere done !ith the )trial and error*" it+s
time to gradually if not fully ,ll in the missing pieces that !ill make
the curriculum a big success. The -uestion no! is )!hat the missing
pieces are on the second year.
II. ON THE FIELD
/ puzzle means thousand pieces of 0ourney to create one
e1perience. /s one of the fortunate teachers !ho !ere able to e1perience
),ghting* and )reiterate dying* 0ust to let the parents" the community and
our neighbors understand more about K to 12" 2 have heard comments and
-uestions regarding the implementation of the curriculum. 2 guess it is a
nature of every #ilipino to be skeptic and ask -uestions if there is something
ne! coming their !ay. 3ueries spread like !ild ,re )24 T5E6E / C5/7CE

=ne by one" little by little" the negative rumors disappeared and
no!" it+s time for us teachers !ho are really !orking )on ,eld* to let our
voice be heard. 5o! did !e ,nd the implementing guidelines. (ere the
students only the ones bene, ted. (hat !ere the problems met during the
,rst -uarter of ?rade @ K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.

/s the Bible passage says in 2 Timothy 2AB )The hard!orking
farmer should be the ,rst to receive a share of the crops*
III. THE FIELD WORKERS INSIGHT
/s a ?rade C and @ Teacher" 2 !as one of those fortunate
teachers !ho !ere bene, ted on the curriculum. The burden of preparing up
to D long lesson plans everyday !as lessened into '$D teaching notes and
lesson logs daily. The students !ill be inEuenced !ith more enthusiasm since
the teacher has enough time to rest a day before hisF her

classes. =ne of the advantages also is that the students !ill have a mastery
of their o!n skills since the focus of K to 12 Curriculum is basically skills
development. 4ome mini$courses being oered in Technology and 9ivelihood
Education are practical !hich means they can be useful in daily living even
!ithout the need for too much ,nancial investments.
/fter my attendance to the seminar for ?rade @ Teachers" 2 have come
to realized that the ,eld is a big and !ide space for improvement. 4ome
small schools don+t have upgraded computers to teach >hoto Editing"
<esktop >ublishing" /utoCad and >C /ssembly !hich should be taught as
part of 2CT for ?rade @. There is also a need for teacher$ training in 2CT and in
other mini$courses like <ressmaking" Eletronics etc.
2 asked my fello! teachers in ?rade @ Gdierent sub0ect areasH and
here are their concernsA
1. Teaching guide is available but the activities are costly for the
teachers
2. 9ack in reference materials" you need to ,nd other resources like the
internet"
burden for teachers !ho do not have enough kno!ledge in using
high technology.

'. Teachers !ho are teaching out of their ma0or sub0ects must be given
a guide
training$!orkshop to at least help them cope up easily in
teaching the sub0ects.
(hatever problems that may arise" no matter ho! hard the
burdens may be" as long as !e are all honest !orkers" by !orking hard and
having faith in our Creator" !e can bridge the gap and !e !ill de,nitely reap
the fruits of !hat !e have so!n.
