Introduction to EIA
Definition:
A study to identify, predict, evaluate and communicate
information about the impacts on the environment of a
proposed project and to detail out themitigatingmeasuresprior
toproject approval andimplementation.
EIA meant for :
environmental planning of new development projects or expansion of an
existing

Objectives of EIA :
1. To examine and select the best from the project options
available
2. To identify and incorporate into the project plan
appropriate abatement and mitigating measures
3. To predict residual environmental impacts

project to the community

INDUCTION COURSE FOR EIA CONSULTANTS
This induction module for EIA Consultants has been developed
with the intention toguideEIA Consultantsto:
UndertakeEIA inamanner that helpsinproject planning.
Prepare EIA reports that meet the expectations and
requirements of the Department of Environment (DOE) and
otherstakeholders.
This induction module is not intended to teach Consultants how
to carry out EIAs.
Registered EIA Consultants are already supposed to know the
fundamentals andtechniquesinEIA.
All registeredEIAConsultants, Subject ConsultantsandEIA Assistant are
requiredtoattend thistwo-daytrainingandpasstheexaminationat
theendof thetraining.

Attendance of the training course and a pass in the
assessment isnecessaryfor RegisteredConsultantstorenewtheir
registrationandnewapplicantsseekingregistration.
Asof 1st of January2010, newapplicationmust besubmitted
togetherwiththeexaminationcertificatefromthiscourse.
