"Describe the Organizational culture and structure of the organization

you worked for? How has the course on OD helped you in understanding
the various facets of an organization's functioning?

Answer:

The company from where Ive done my summer internship is Bisleri
international Pvt. Ltd. It was situated in Sahibabad, UP.

Organizational Culture at Bisleri:

The culture that prevails at Bisleri is formal yet at certain point of time it
becomes informal. There is no particular dress code but people are expected
to come to in formals. And most of the time all comes in formal. Though in the
weekend (i.e. Saturday.) employees are allowed to come in casuals.
Though in the weekend all can wear casuals but yet what I have notice
that the sales personals prefer to wear formals. Only the executives and area
sales manager came in casuals.
Employee addresses their superior with sir and there is a formal
gesture of shaking hand before after entering the office. This helps the
employee to have a sense of belongingness. And therefore helps in building
relationship which is very much required in sales.
Employees were very punctual. For the sales team the reporting time
was 9 am and for other the time was 10 am though the exit time was not fixed
for sales team.

There was great amount of cooperation among the other executives. They
cooperate and try to achieve the target. Its all about target in the sales.
Therefore there were strict deadlines for achieving the targeted sales figure.
The organization was not open as to reach the superior one has to go
through proper channel. Many a time superiors are not available.

Bisleri follows performance based remuneration structure. The sales team
who achieved highest target sales was awarded.

Large parts of the salary of the executives were variables. The basic salary is not
much but the variable is more thus it act as a motive to have high performance.

Sales personals are given free SIM cards and the telephone bill expense that
happens during sales is given by the company.

The Organization Structure of Bisleri

The organization structure of Bisleri of Bisleri is as follows.

At the top there is the Area Head and below him the director sales. The marketing
manager and sales manager come under him. And under sales manager assistance
sales manager is there and under him sales executive a sales executive four to five
sales officers are there.

The company has a tall organizational structure and thus flow of information from
top management to the management below is not smooth.

But there is synchronization between Finance department, HR department and
Sales department. The sales department has to stay in touch with the finance
department so that they can see which all distributors have used their credit limit
and if there is an addition to new distributors their names are uploaded in the
database by the finance department.

The Area Head makes the main management decision. The strategy is being
devised at the headquarter at Mumbai and that strategy is followed throughout the
country. The area head implement the strategy in the plant. The sales manager
oversees the sales team under him two to three ASM are there and they are given a
target which they have to meet within a given period of time which is usually 6
month. The ASM have Four to five Executives working under him and under the
executive there are sales personals. Usually there are four to five sales officer
under one executive. They carry on the ground level work of acquiring the prospect
and they are the main link between distributors and the manufacturing unit.

The course Organizational Dynamics helped me to understand the organizational
structure of the company. The way its organizational structure influence the
employees performance.

In this course we have learned about the culture that prevails in any organization
and how this culture helps on organization to sustain it in the long run and how
culture affects the employees morale.

And this knowledge helps me to identify the types of culture that was there in the
company I have worked and the reason behind the employees certain way of doing
the work. This course helps me to get an insight of why the organizations are
structured the way they are. Organizational dynamics course helped me to
understand the uncertainty that affects the complexity, formalization and
centralization of the organization.
