The undergraduate interns traded a day in their cubicles for the outdoors on Tuesday, July
15 to volunteer at Camp Nejeda, a Novo Nordisk sponsored camp for diabetic children in
Stillwater, NJ.

The group fully integrated themselves into Nejedas Sports Day, losing to the campers in
basketball, volleyball, soccer, archery and chess, as the spirited Team Novo Nordisk.

It was amazing having the privilege to spend the day with a great group of kids who refuse
to let their Diabetes stop them from being all they can be, said Victoria Gemignani, HR
Intern of Curriculum Design.

The only difference between Camp Nejeda and any other summer camp is the staffs
dedication to helping the kids better manage their diabetes. They execute this through their
highly trained medical team and onsite medical station, where the kids test their blood
glucose levels and deliver their pre-meal injections.

It was a powerful experience; this really put things that I took for granted, like having to
eat lunch, into perspective, and showed me how much impact an easy insulin adjustment
can have on a Diabetics life, said Connor Oltmans, FFX Intern.

In the afternoon, Lisa Sher, Paulina Kara, Gabrielle Gatti and Reagan Schweers, Novo
Nordisk interns and Type 1 diabetics themselves, shared their personal insights about
overcoming their disease" Schweers, a former diabetes summer camp attendee, expressed
how encouraging the kids with his own story was extremely enlightening and gratifying.

It was a rewarding opportunity to be on the business side of the camp experience, said
Schweers.

When reflecting on their day at Camp Nejeda, all of the interns agreed that the trip left
them with a lasting impression that gave them a deeper understanding and appreciation for
their work at Novo Nordisk.

The camp reiterated its gratitude towards Novo Nordisks support, most recently
demonstrated by the installation of a new PA system. This came courtesy of the 2014
Summer Undergraduate Interns and the U.S. Corporate Giving and Social Impact team.

We would like to thank the U.S. Corporate Giving and Social Impact team for their
collaboration with the internship program, as well as the Legal Department for their
donation of 100 personalized copies of If I Kiss You Will I Get Diabetes by Quinn Nystrom to
the camp.

The undergraduate interns will be presenting their Legacy Project, an overview of their
group work at Novo Nordisk, on August 14
th
in GA103 from 1:30-3:00pm and welcome
anyone sit in on the presentation.
