There is no denying that an artist is a reflection of their environment, and the harsh beauty of rural Manitoba is at the heart of J ess Reimers work. She has
been one of the Winnipeg roots music scenes best-kept secrets for several years, but with her new album, The Nightjar and The Garden, J ess is set to

With a voice that combines the grittiness of Lucinda Williams with the pure power of Neko Case, its hardly a surprise that J ess attracted the attention of
legendary Blue Rodeo founding keyboardist (and Manitoba native) Bob Wiseman, who produced The Nightjar and The Garden. Wisemans fondness of
vintage sounds and a live approach in the studio emphasizes the raw beauty of J ess vocals, as well as the wide range of emotions in her songwriting, from
the hard twang of Maggie The Retriever (Bang Bang) to the gospel-infused I Want To Believe.

There are many moments on the album, such as her interpretation of Warren Zevons Heartache Spoken Here, where J ess sounds as if shes on stage
at the Grand Ole Opry circa 1963, while at other times she fearlessly expresses her thoughts on current events, as in The Lonesome Death Of Troy
Davis and her soaring version of Patti Smiths People Have The Power. The complete picture of The Nightjar and The Garden displays an artist with
many facets, unwaveringly connected to the soul of North American music, much like the albums special guest, Ron Sexsmith, who contributes harmony

Referred to as "One of the best songwriters in the business" by Nashville's Music Row Magazine, Victoria has come a long way in

In the early stages of writing a soundtrack, one of the trickiest things is finding a balance between the elements
of the score. Obviously the music needed to reflect the love story but the game itself is deliberately abstract so
writing a romeo and juliet sweeping score seemed inappropriate. I wanted to the music to convey a sense of
nostalgia without overtly stating kissy love themes. Because each lifetime is very different stylistically, the music
also needed to have variety while still sounding like Entwined throughout. It also needed to be peaceful but have
energy. Even though Im an electronic musician, I didnt want to go the EDM Tron rhythm game route, as
tempting as it was. Maybe I over think things a bit, but these considerations are a key part of the creative process
for me.

So the next step was cultivating the sounds that represent Entwined. Many of the pieces in Entwined have an
interplay between a deep warm instrument and a bright shiny instrument. Sometimes its piano and an analogue
synth, other times its a harp and a celeste. To me, this interplay is the bird and the fish communicating. The bird
is shiny and bright and the fish is deep and warm. They sing back and forth and harmonize together. Sometimes
they are playing and sometimes they longing for each others touch.

This concept informed many musical decisions while composing the score. -Sam Marshall

Key Points:
Coco Mlis is the symbiosis of two worlds. A duo formed by David Mlis and Francesca Como. An intimate music, rough and light in which both
voices blend perfectl y to form the heart of the project.
They made their way over the past two years with their EP, The Walking Birds, touring extensi vely in Quebec, in France and in the United States.
They also been invited to collaborate on the Bran Van 3000 album The Garden with which they shared the stage at many occasions.
After two years on the road, they settled back in Montreal to prepare the launch of their first album, Lighthouse, which will released on September

J ust outside of Flori-bama there is an under-disclosed building frequented by a handful of outlaws and in-laws, a place where questions
don't get answered and dreams don't usually come true, where passers-thru can find like-minded chartless characters to intermingle with;
this place is known as De Oro. One evening J ason Feathers, a.k.a. Creflo, a red-chested god-bassed Southern rapper in a fancy white suit,
found himself in an after-bar-impromptu-musical-round-up. There, he tangled with two flashily-clad cronies, one called Toothpick, a
drummer-hype-piano-man all in one, and the other a heavily-seasoned guitar-crooning lost-cowboy that went by Ephasis. The house
engineer that night, a white-haired man with ghostly features that the locals all called Opacity, captured all that went down. Then later there
was Ryan Olson, who put it all together and played "bass" amongst sequenced plugs and wires.
De Oro is the record of this event and those that followed.

Thunders' career from his beginnings to his tragic death in 1991.
He was adored by a legion of devotees and cited as an influence

that wouldn't let go - "just who was J ohnny Thunders?" He spent
18 months travelling across the USA and Europe, filming
interviews with the people who were closest to J ohnny, building a
compelling narrative drawn from first hand testimonies. The film
examines Thunders' career from the early 70's as a founding
member of the influential New York Dolls and the birth of the
punk scene with The Heartbreakers in NY and London. It also
explores his unique musical style, his battle with drugs and
theories on his death in a New Orleans hotel in 1991 at age 38.
Interviewees include Syl vain Syl vain, Lenny Kaye, Walter
Lure, Billy Rath, Bob Gruen, Terry Chimes, Alan Vega, Peter

made when Seeger was still blacklisted by major media
organisations because of his opposition to the war in Vietnam
and one scene shows Pete with J ohnny Cash, when Cash, who
admired him tremendously, defied his network to feature him on
The J ohnny Cash Show. The film culminates in Seeger leading
an anti-war march on Washington by singing We Shall
Overcome, emotionally revealing the passion for peace, justice
and human dignity that drove his art. Along the way, we are
treated to renditions of songs that define an era: Turn, Turn,
Turn, Wasn't That A Time, Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall, Walking
Down Death Row, among many others. Besides Johnny Cash,
Don McLean, Lester Flatt and Rev Kirkpatrick are among those
who sing with Pete.

In the realms of modern day late night ambient exploration
Manchester's Marconi Union often draw comparisons with Brian

they have continually refined and developed a unique musical
identity that seamlessly blends elements of dub, jazz, ambience
and electronic music.

The new album comprises six tracks, simply entitled Part 1 to
Part 6. The tracks are minimal, combining warm drones and
drifting sounds with occasional sparse rhythms. Part 1 is the
original "Weightless" track, which almost appears to have a
heartbeat running through it, slowing down very gently
throughout the piece, encouraging a deep sense of relaxation in
the body, it's use of specific rhythms, deep bass tones,
frequencies and intervals inducing an almost trance like state in
the listener. It has already attracted over 12 million worldwide
views on YouTube and over 4 million followers on Soundcloud.

A recent posting about the track on the Mind Unleashed
(following of 4.5 million) attracted nearly 16,000 likes and 13,000
shares the interest in this track is phenomenal!

Treehouse 44 release the first known recordings by British
folk guitar hero Michael Chapman. Previously unreleased,
these are the earliest known recordings of this great British
guitar hero, or as Michael Chapman calls it " The album I had
no idea I had made!" This follows on the heels of Light in
The Attic'c catalogue re-issue programme.

The story of how Michael Chapman turned pro as a musician,
walking into a Cornish pub and offering to play a gig in return for
shelter from the rain outside is both well known and well told.
These "lost" recordings catch up with our hero of the piece some
eight months later as he played a show at Folk Cottage,
Mitchell near Newquay in Cornwall on Good Friday, 24th March
1967.

The Folk Cottage was established in 1963 and the former granite
built farm workers building had secured it's reputation as a
seminal venue on the circuit, with a host of talented local folk
artists such as John The Fish and Brenda Wotton performing
there as well as it proving to be a haven for the likes of Wizz
Jones and Ralph McTell.

At the time Chapman was being billed as "exciting new blues
artist" and that is reflected in some of the material captured in
these recordings ("Baby Please Don't Go", "Parchman Farm"
and "Kansas City") but there is also the odd surprise in store for
Chapman fans, including a cover of Buddy Holly's "That'll Be The
Day" as well as three original instrumentals that highlight the
emergence of Chapman's innovative and instantly recognisable
guitar style that we know today.

Slaves to the Grave is the last will and testament of the Dallas/Ft
Worth band who influenced artists from Nine Inch Nails to
Slipknot, and features members of GWAR, Ministry, Warbeast,
Revolting Cocks and Lard. Fated for release, the recording
sessions wrapped just days before the tragic loss of guitarist
Mike Scaccia, who suffered a massive heart attack and
collapsed while performing on stage. Rigor Mortis hit the national
scene in 1987 as the first underground Heavy Metal band to sign
to a major label. Their 1988 debut record, RIGOR MORTIS
(Capitol), has since become legendary in the thrash/speed metal
community, influencing bands like Toxic Holocaust and
Goatwhore, and motivating Ministry to leave the disco for the
Metal arena. Ministry would, in turn, influence everything from
Nine Inch Nails to Marilyn Manson and Slipknot. The members
would remain friends through thick and thin throughout the years,
and in 2012 the pieces finally came together. Rigor Mortis
entered the studio to record what was to be their comeback
record. Older, wiser and good with their personal lives Rigor
Mortis had finally come full circle. Then, on December 22nd,
2012, it all came to a halt.
Bonus DVD features a 36 minute making of the album
documentary filmed in the studio and edited by J osh
Vargas for Chance Allen Productions.

This lost gem of an album is a wonderful addition to the
Spiro collection, demonstarting how their unique and
fascinating sound began, and how fresh it remains after 17
years.

Spiro have been together, their line-up completely unchanged,
for over 20 years. That probably doesn't come as a surprise to
those who've heard the four musicians in action: completely in
tune with one another, there's no ornamentation to attract
attention to one particular instrument. In fact, there's that feeling
that each member of the band isn't just playing that instrument,
they're playing the whole thing. This is what Spiro refer to as "the
mesh", the locked-in ensemble sound that's a relentless,
wonderfully overpowering assault on the eardrums.

With their second and third albums (Lightbox and
Kaleidophonica) released on Real World Records - both
receiving rave reviews - it seemed fitting to complete the set and
re-release Spiro's very first album, Pole Star, which originally
came out in 1997.

Pole Star was recorded live in a two day session at the former
BBC Christchurch Studios in Bristol in the winter of 1996-7 by
Portishead engineer Rik Dowding.

Having gone from a struggling club band to
wider international success, it came as
something of a shock when leader Ian Hunter
pulled the band apart by quitting in late 1974,
taking flamboyant guitarist Mick Ronson with
him to peruse a solo career. For the other
members of Mott The Hoople this could have
spelt disaster but fortunately their resolve and
determination overcame all obstacles resolving
to carry on with a revised line up.
Enlisting new guitarist Ray Major & unknown
vocalist Nigel Benjamin the band reconvened,
still signed to CBS, but under the new handle
of Mott. It was this line-up (also featuring
former MTH stalwarts Pete Overend Watts,
Dale Buffin Griffin & Morgan Fisher) that
recorded Drive On, one of the years most
surprising and exciting albums.

The quartets on this disc are among Beethoven's final utterances on the string quartet, a form of which he became the
ultimate master. The distance traversed from his first quartets to these final ones is immense. But even if all of his
works are recognizable as inimitably Beethoven's, these final ones are, well, different. These two final ones (in number,
though no. 15 was written before no. 13) - contrast markedly with each other.
Op. 132 traverses a spiritual development from near-despair to a triumphant finale. In the middle is perhaps the
greatest of all of Beethoven's adagios, the "holy song of thanksgiving" - based on a hymn-like figure using medieval
harmonies and an "alternativo" that brings us back to life. It is true end-of-the-world music - theres nothing like it. A
cheery march leads to a finale in which all doubts are swept away, culminating in a super-joyful coda - a thrilling
conclusion to a mighty story.
Op. 135, written very near the end of his life, is another matter. Two of its four movements seem hardly serious at all -
the first quite jocular, the second (scherzo) even more so - take the lengthy passage in which the lower three instruments
play the same slightly mad figure over and over (48 times!) while the first violin cavorts insanely above them. But the
third is indeed altogether sublime - sweet, thoughtful, poignant to the last possible degree. And the finale opens with a
question, indicated by Beethoven himself: "Must it be?" - and answers It Must Be! Question and answer are hurled at
each other - but the affirmative answer wins. Coming from a man as near death as Beethoven then was, that is an
amazing testament to his indomitable spirit, and remains so to this day.
