PROJECTS
Drove the completion of high quality application migrations/upgrades, custom software development, business projects and regulatory/compliance implementations in the banking/financial services industry.
Application Migration/Software Upgrades: Ensured that application migrations and software upgrades worked as well as or better than the previous systems/versions via thorough planning, detailed risk analysis and extensive testing. These involved asset accounting (Eagle, Trust 3000), Trading (Murex front, middle and back office, derivatives, fixed income), Credit Risk (RXM), Payments (SWIFT Global Messaging), RSA (Internet user authentication) and other financial services application systems. Results: Completed projects within schedule, budget and with the required quality. Received recognition from the CIO/CEO for the successful implementation of these critical projects.
Business Strategy Implementation: Led projects or work streams of programs in several enterprise and/or global business initiatives. Set up a securities trading company in Tokyo while ensuring that taxation, compliance, accounting and regulatory requirements in Japan were met. Set up the infrastructure, business processes and systems to process these transactions. Led the operations work stream of a company merger; integrated the retirement funds and insurance back office processes of the merged entity. Designed/selected the best processes and systems for the combined entity.
Results: In the first 6 months of operation, the new securities trading company increased the banks operational revenues in Japan by 5%. Contributed towards total cost savings in the merged company of over $150 million over 5 years.
Custom Software Development: Designed, developed and implemented various application systems to meet business requirements in financial markets and retail banking. Analyzed and documented requirements, issued requests for proposal, analyzed vendor proposals against approved criteria and selected the best software. Configured, amended, tested and implemented the software with in house and/or vendor resources. Led up to 50 resources including business analysts, developers, testers, trainers and implementation resources. Results: Completed projects within budget, time and required quality. These eliminated the risk of excessive customer exposures/ reduced annual system maintenance by $1 million (RXM); reduced risk of fraud (BEDs); improved customer service by reducing processing time of imports/exports by 25% (TCS).
Regulatory/Compliance: Implemented regulatory requirements for Basel II Capital Adequacy laws and Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) rules on business continuity. Results: The bank saved hundreds of millions of dollars in capital reserves as a result of meeting the Tier 1 Basel II . Compliance with RBA rules on business continuity eliminated the risk of losing its banking license as a result of inadequate business disaster readiness.
ACHIEVEMENT HIGHLIGHTS Led teams across broad technical, business and financial disciplines, both onshore and offshore. Focused teams on business objectives and tracked progress to ensure project milestones were completed on time, budget and with the desired quality results. Budgets ranged from $1 million to $5 million. Implemented company business strategies to either reduce costs or increase income. For example, set up a company in Japan to enable the bank to sell derivatives products to the insurance industry in Japan. Mitigated risks and resolved issues through careful analysis and brainstorming sessions. Managed change effectively in rapidly changing global business environments. Defined processes and tools best suited to each project, creating detailed project road maps, plans, schedules and work breakdown structures.
