AERODYNAMICS

SHAPES
FUNCTION
Front spoiler
Front spoilers, found beneath the bumper, are mainly used to
direct air flow away from the tires to the underbody where the
drag coefficient is less.
In passenger vehicles, the focus shifts more to directing the
airflow into the engine bay for cooling purposes.
Air splitter/air dam
Air dam is aerodynamically designed to improve the airflow and
reduce drag and fuel consumption.
Limits the Amount of Air Passing Underneath the Car
Contributes to High Pressure In Front of the Car
Causes Low Pressure Underneath the Car
Canard Vortices
Vortices Spin Inwards, Towards the Vehicle on Each Side
Canard Vortices Work In Conjunction With Side Skirts to Limit the
High Pressure Air From Mixing With the Low Pressure Air Found
Underneath the Car.
Captures a Small Amount of Down force by Redirecting Airflow
Upward.
Main Purpose is the Creation of Large Vortices That Run the
Length of the Vehicle
Side skirt
Side Skirts Prevent High Pressure Air Around the Car from
Disturbing the Low Pressure Underneath the Car.
Smooth Undertray
We can also reduce the influence of underside airflow by covering
the car's bottom by a smooth undertray. This avoid turbulence
and lift
Rear spoiler
Rear spoilers, which modify the transition in shape between the
roof and the rear and the trunk and the rear, act to minimize the
turbulence at the rear of the vehicle.
Rear spoiler with wing
Adding a rear spoiler creates a longer, gentler slope or angle of
attack from the roof to the aerodynamic aid.
This will help delay flow separation of the fast moving air and
increase the flow dynamics of the rear airflow.
This decreases drag, increases fuel economy, and also can helps
keep the rear window clean when rear wipers are not fitted.
Rear diffuser/venturi tunnel
It is a shaped section of the car underbody which improves the
car's aerodynamic properties by enhancing the transition
between the high-velocity airflow underneath the car and the
much slower free stream airflow of the ambient atmosphere.
The diffuser itself accelerates the flow in front of it, which helps
generate downforce.
Vortex Generators
Trips the Boundary Layer, Causing the Laminar Air Traveling Over
the Roof to Become Turbulent
Typically the size of the boundary layer, 15mm - 30mm at the rear
end of a vehicle roof
