5.2 FunctIonaI detaIIs about data and P0H muxldemux

Two functIons play an essentIal role In the Ethernet data transport: the standard P0H
mux/demux and the data encapsulatIon/bufferIng.
The two functIons have been decoupled as much as possIble:
the standard P0H mux/demux o]]ers c trcnsport ccpcblty to the data traffIc
the data encapsulatIon/bufferIng uses the trcnsport ccpcblty offered by the mux,
but doesn't know what Is the current mux type/frame.

The nxE1 Frcmny block Is Implemented Into the Mux/demux.
The Ethernet 0ctc Enccpsulcton block Is Implemented Into the 0ata plugIn.
The connecton between the two functIons Is sImply realIzed wIth three wIres:
0ata valId : |ux/dem tells to Ethernet 0ata when It Is possIble to Insert Ethernet
data Into the P0H frame
Frame bIt CLK: the clock for the transmIssIon of Ethernet bIts;
0ata Ethernet bIts to be Inserted Into the P0H frame.

The desIgn of the P0H |ux Is completely decoupled from the encapsulatIon strategy of
the Ethernet 0ata;
t Is easIly possIble to Implement any combInatIon of voIce (E1) and data wIth the
lImItatIon that we have only a lImIted number of physIcal Inputs for E1 (8 or 16).

avaIlable. To launch a tool, the operator sImply has to clIck on the correspondIng button.

Pre-rovsonny tool
The preprovIsIonIng tool Is a standalone tool whose purpose Is to prepare the complete
confIguratIon of the NE, wIthout any physIcal connectIon to the equIpment (e.g. In back
offIce).
The preprovIsIonIng tool makes use of a wIzard tool (called QuIck ConfIguratIon
procedure), whIch allows performIng a full system confIguratIon through a guIded
process, based on a reduced set of screens.
The preprovIsIonIng tool generates a provIsIonIng fIle (In X|L format) that can later be
applIed on the NE through the NE Web server or usIng the Setup tool.

Set-u tool
The setup tool Is a tool that allows to actually perform the confIguratIon on the NE.
Df course, thIs tool requIres a physIcal connectIon to the NE.
The setup tool can run In 2 dIfferent modes :
QuIck ConfIguratIon In nteractIve mode
QuIck ConfIguratIon by fIle mode

NE manayement by Web server
The purpose of the NEembedded Web server Is to perform the confIguratIon of an NE,
based on the content of a provIsIonIng fIle prepared by the preprovIsIonIng tool.
To use thIs Web server, the nstaller only needs a PC wIth a Web browser; no Alcatel
Lucent SW Is requIred.
To perform the NE confIguratIon, he sImply has to select the locatIon of the provIsIonIng
fIle (whIch can be carrIed on an US8 key or can be stored on a centralIzed server) In the
"NE ConfIguratIon" screen.
n addItIon, the Web server allows to monItor the actIve alarms and the receIved sIgnal
level, so that the nstaller can check whether NE confIguratIon and antenna alIgnment
are correct.

0eratonal and Mantenance tool
The DperatIonal and |aIntenance tool provIdes operators wIth effIcIent features to
perform theIr daytoday maIntenance actIvItIes: proactIve maIntenance and correctIve

For large/mIxed networks composed of ALU 9400AWY SN|P termInals, assocIated wIth
other types of equIpment, 2 types of applIcatIon are proposed :
The fIrst applIcatIon Is the one allowIng the Customer, who wants to have a
multIvendor envIronment at the Network Element level, to homogenIze the
NE Interface, whoever the equIpment provIder Is.
The second applIcatIon Is the one where the full N|S Is provIded by Alcatel
Lucent. The ALU 9400AWY SN|P termInals wIll be managed by the Alcatel
Lucent DperatIon System 1J5JN| together wIth other type of NE's (S0H
