2.).8. O$i&al Fi%re Ca%le 2#ins an! S$li&es
All 4oints s'all use fusion splices9 splice protectors and be 'eld in a purpose made splice organiser. Qoints s'all be
made in accordance 5it' t'e manufacturerMs instructions.
Splices s'all 'a:e an insertion loss of 0.1 d) or less.
All splicing s'all be carried out in strict accordance 5it' t'e cable manufacturerMs and splicer manufacturerMs
instructions. All persons performing optical fibre splicing s'all be suitabl! trained in suc' 4ointing tec'ni0ues.

seal.

). INSTALLATION OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS CABLES
).1. General
T'is Clause pro:ides additional re0uirements to t'ose of Part 2%1 6#nstallation of #TS E0uipment7.
2a3 #nstallation of communications cabling s'all be underta?en onl! b! or under t'e direct super:ision of a
person or persons 'olding an ACEA >pen Cabling &icense9 preferabl! 5it' t'e appropriate endorsements
for t'e t!pe of cabling being performed. E:idence of cabling registration for installers and;or super:isors

future cable location.

Dor all cables e1ceeding $0 metres in lengt'9 $ metre rema?e loops s'all be pro:ided at all 4oint and termination
points. Additional $ metre rema?e loops s'all be pro:ided e:er! $00 metres of cable lengt'. T'ese loops s'all be
installed in appropriate pits suc' t'at sufficient cable is a:ailable for re=termination if and 5'en re0uired.
Cables entering a control room or building s'all also be pro:ided 5it' $ metre rema?e loops as close as practicable
to t'e building entr! point. T'e location of rema?e loops is to be noted in t'e 6as=built7 documentation 2refer
Clause 73.

Dibre optic cables s'all be installed 5it' "0 metre rema?e loops bet5een eac' pair of splice 4oints9 bet5een splice
4oints and e0uipment enclosures and bet5een splice 4oints and building entr! points. /ema?e loops are to be coiled
in suitable pits of minimum P7 siIe. /ema?e loops s'all onl! be stored in pits smaller t'an P7 5it' appro:al of t'e
Superintendent. See?ing suc' appro:al s'all constitute a 9OL/ POINT. Additionall!9 1$ metres of optical fibre
cable s'all be left coiled at or near eac' splice 4oint.
,. TESTING AN/ COMMISSIONING
,.1. General
Prior to testing9 t'e Contractor s'all demonstrate t'e correct functioning and current calibration of all test
e0uipment. Copies of current calibration certificates s'all be made a:ailable to t'e Superintendent prior to
commencement of testing. Pro:ision of t'is information s'all constitute a 9OL/ POINT.
Testing s'all be carried out b! appropriatel! trained and 0ualified personnel. *etails of t'e 0ualifications and
e1perience of t'e personnel performing t'e testing s'all be pro:ided to t'e Superintendent prior to commencement
of testing. Pro:ision of t'is information s'all constitute a 9OL/ POINT.
T'e Contractor s'all pro:ide at least 4+ 'ours notice of t'e time and date t'at eac' stage of t'e testing 5ill be
underta?en. Pro:ision of t'e notification s'all constitute a 9OL/ POINT.
T'e Superintendent ma! c'oose to 5itness a representati:e sample of tests as t'e! are conducted. T'e
