Kohler School Foundation is
pleased to announce the comple-
tion of a $93,442 grant to Kohler
Public Schools that support the
students and faculty through initia-
tives that line up directly with the
districts strategic plan. Collabo-
rating with faculty, each grant re-
quest is carefully created by the
administration, individually con-
sidered by the Foundations Board
of Directors and voted on for ap-
proval. After seven years of Fall
Follies events to raise money for
the Annual Fund, 2013 was its
largest fun-raiser to date, result-
ing in the ability to make lasting
enhancements to the school.
The Kohler School Foundation
strives to invest in programming
that enhances the academic expe-
rience and help take the Kohler
Public Schools experience beyond
the basics of what the existing dis-
trict budget could provide. Its im-
portant to the Foundation to also
consider its donors wishes; ensur-
ing each tax-deductible contribu-
tion is designated for its intended
purpose.
The districts grant proposal fo-
cused on three strategic plan prior-
ities. The first expands technology
capacity through tools that will
provide student access to the new
district wireless infrastructure to
enhance learning, exploration, and
creativity. The second helps de-
velop a positive school climate and
culture by investment in student
leadership development, advisory,
and Ebben Field. The third focuses
on maximizing student achieve-
ment for all students supported by
an evidence-based reading and
math intervention system and an
economics education program.
The following is a summary of
where the approved grant money
was designated:
Create a Technology-enabled
Learning Environment
One (1) classroom set of 30 lap-
tops, including accidental damage
protection and mobile lab to be
used throughout the school.
Purchase and installation of 10
additional SMART boards in ele-
mentary classrooms. This doubles
the amount of SMART boards at
the elementary level.
Build a Positive School
Community & Culture
Respond to school and commu-
nity request to update Ebben Field
Facility.
Provide each high school advi-
sory group with a variety of team
building opportunities throughout
the year. This provides experiences
that build a sense of cohesion and
team within each high school
multi-grade level advisory group.
Respond to student requests
from a student-driven advisory
plan and leadership commitments
made during a half-day experience
Provide a ropes and challenge
experience for Senior Class as they
begin senior year to build cohesion
within the class and develop lead-
ership capacity.
Maximize Achievement and
Growth for Every Student
Purchase of a Leveled Literacy
Intervention System for grades K-
4. Evidence based reading and
math interventions and progress
monitoring tools are essential
components of the district multi-
level system of support. Providing
targeted, intensive and supportive
interventions to students prior to
identifying a specific learning dis-
ability is a state requirement. Also
includes purchase of Do the Math
Now intensive math intervention
system for middle school grades 6-
8.
Junior Achievement Financial
Park month-long economics edu-
cation program to offer all 8th
grade students. Includes opportu-
nity to engage with an onsite/vir-
tual community putting learnings
of economic options and principles
of budgeting into practice.
All of this support comes di-
rectly from Fall Follies: the in-
creasingly popular community
fun-raiser dinner with a silent
and live auction. Kohler School
Foundation Board Member, Pete
Schueller, summarizes the event,
Fall Follies effectively serves two
purposes: it allows our community
to gather in support of public edu-
cation and it is a great reason for
friends, neighbors, parents and
business leaders to get together
and have a great time.
The eighth annual Fall Follies
will be held October 11, 2014 at
the American Club. The entire
community is invited to attend this
casual event. This year the Foun-
dation plans to incorporate light-
hearted fun with the Game Night
theme- intended to be an adult
evening with a child-like spirit.
There will also be an exciting re-
peat performance from DJ Suga
Ray, the overwhelmingly popular

KOHLER HOME
FOR SALE BY OWNER
Holly Zufelt, a 10-year old
Kohler resident, has published her
first ebook on amazon.com this
summer. The book, Sincerely, The
Bully, centers around Andrea, a
once kind and popular girl who be-
comes the school bully after suffer-
ing through a traumatic event. The
three main characters are girls and
the reader gets to hear each of their
points of view as they work
through questions of loyalty,
friendship, family issues, being the
new girl at school, and bullying.
In 2013 Hollys Girl Scout troop
learned about bullying. When she
began to have some problems at
school she said, I read many
books about bullying, but they all
only had to do with the target's
point of view. I wanted to read
about the bully's point of view.
Holly used her research and life
experience to begin work on Sin-
cerely, The Bully.
Holly has attended writing pro-
grams through Northwestern Uni-
versity and Wisconsin Center for
Academically Talented Youth, and
she loves reading, writing, learn-
ing, and acting. I started reading
like crazy the summer when I was
going into second grade, reading
three hours at night, and about one
to two hours throughout the day. I
still read a lot, but not as much as
before, because I don't have time.
Sincerely, The Bully is available
for download for 99 centsat ama-
zon.com, and the site also hosts an
authors page for Holly. Its pretty
cool to see myself on amazon, but
I just hope that my book will help
kids feel comfortable talking to
their parents and their classmates
when they are having trouble at
school.
Editors note: I had a chance to
read Hollys story and enjoyed her
extra attention to details when de-
scribing people, feelings, and sur-
roundings from a typical 10
year-olds perspective. For exam-
ple, rather than simply describing
one of the characters carpeted
stairs as bright blue, Holly writes,
I quickly walked down my bright
blue, partly brown from dirt, car-
peted stairs.
As an adult, Ialso enjoyed
Hollys charming descriptive ac-
counts of recess that brought me
back to when I was a fourth grade
girl taking the quickest way to the
playground and walking fast so
we wouldnt miss any recess. (I
learned that recess for a fourth
grade girl hasnt changed in the
decades since Iwas in the fourth
grade).
Hollys short little ebook is
worth a read by kids who can relate
to the kid politics that often goes
on during elementary school re-
cess, and by adults who will appre-
ciate her storytelling. To download
the Kindle version of Hollys book,
visit amazon.com and search the
title Sincerely, the Bully.

Fall auditions for the
Sheboygan Area Youth
Symphony Concert
Orchestra and Sinfonia
(SAYS) will take place
4:30-6 p.m. Thursday,
Sept. 11 and 10 a.m. to
noon Saturday, Sept.
13 at Farnsworth Mid-
dle School, 1017
Union Ave., Sheboy-
gan.
SAYS invites all area elemen-
tary, middle school, high school
and home-schooled students to
audition. Participation in school
instrumental ensembles is re-
quired unless the appropriate en-
semble is not in the curriculum.
The Concert Orchestra audition
requires a solo of Class A or B dif-
ficulty. String solos
should also include
shifting to the upper
positions. Concert Or-
chestra is currently
looking to fill openings
for clarinets, horns and
strings. All other sec-
tions are currently full
for the coming season.
Students audi-
tioning for Sinfonia
should prepare a solo of Class C
or B difficulty. Sinfonia, formerly
a strings-only group, will add
woodwinds, brass, and percussion
to provide an intermediate-level
full orchestra experience for stu-
dents beginning with the 2014-
2015 season. Sinfonia currently
has openings for oboes, clarinets,
bassoons, trom-
bones, tuba, violin,
viola, cello and bass.

up facilities will be
available at the audi-
tion site. Please enter
the east door off of
the parking lot on
Tenth Street.

nia is directed by Susan (Stauber)

day evenings, September through

from 4:30 - 6 p.m., and winds and
percussion from 5 6 p.m.
The SAYS Concert Orchestra is
directed by Debbie Williamson
who co-founded the Or-
chestra in 1982. The
Concert Orchestra re-
hearses 7-9 p.m. Mon-
days September through
April, and strings 6:30 -

standing of vehicles for the westbound traffic on School
St. Also, parents that drop children off in the morning

KOHLER PUBLIC SCHOOLS NEWSLETTER
Call to Order
Marlene Yang called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
in the Kohler Public Library. Nancy Case called roll.
The following board members were present: Marlene
Yang, and Matt Kautzer. Christina Koberstein, Diane
Kelly and Nancy Case.
Statement of Public Notice
July 11, 2014
Approval of Agenda
Christina Koberstein moved to approve the agenda.
Nancy Case seconded the motion. All ayes. Motion
carried.
Board Presidents Report (Marlene Yang)
CESA 7 has an opening on the board of control. Nomi-
nations will be taken until July 31, 2014. The meetings
are once a month in Green Bay.
Superintendents Report (Quynh Trueblood)
I appreciate the boards constructive evaluation of per-
formance, 2 year contract offer, and continued sup-
port.
Rich Tengowski, music director, coordinated and di-
rected the combined high school band at the Acuity
dedication of the Worlds Tallest Symbol of Freedom
of in June. We thank Rich and Sheboygan county
music students for their fine representation and per-
formance.
Summer months are a productive time preparing for
the return of students and teachers. Our administrative
teams attention is on:
Offering health insurance benefits with key elements in-
cluding top-level plans, cost containment, sustainabil-
ity, and member education and choice. We are actively
working with National Insurance Services (NIS) to pur-
sue carriers committed to quality providers, service,
products, and pricing.
The teacher handbook is an evolving document con-
taining language expressly selected to promote and
achieve a positive and professional climate and culture
focused around productivity, pride, and growth from
clear systems and processes to achieve district goals
and priorities. The development and implementation of
a meaningful handbook represents a process for caring
for the people who care for our students and each
other. Multiple resources were used to develop the
draft language including our school attorney, templates
from school districts, conversations with superintend-
ents, an input session with teachers and a review by
selected union and non-union members. We recognize
and acknowledge that transition to an updated hand-
book requires transparency and sensitivity. Our efforts
will focus on clear communication throughout the
process toward achieving the most productive and
prideful work environment at Kohler Schools. We will
look to the board for approval in August.
Continued progress with technology in schools is
strong. Made possible by the generous support of the
Kohler School Foundation, Smart Boards are installed
in every elementary classroom. The Distance Learning
Center and Library Media Center have full installments
of Chromebooks. We continued to build a reality of en-
hanced learning from technology tools.
Class-sizes are maintained in the middle school and
lowered from last year for the elementary school and
core high school classes. From last year to the up-
coming year average class-sizes: 19.9 to 16.2 (EL),
20.5 to 20.6 (MS - core classes), 20.7 to 18.1 (HS -
core classes). Our schools are filling with children and
the additional staffing contributes to the smaller class-
sizes.
Track resurfacing complete is complete from the Ebben
Field phase II projects. We continue to seek donations
strategically focused on maintaining, improving, and
expanding our facilities and grounds to maximize com-
munity involvement.
Principals Report (Lori Neurohr)
Elementary News
The elementary teachers were all trained in Envision
Math, our new K-5 math curriculum. There are more
professional development tools available in the online
learning suite that accompanies the program, called
my Pearson Training. Beth Lambie and I are putting to-
gether a timeline for completing these, similar to what
was done for Reading Wonders.
The schedule for the 2014-2015 school year has been
finalized and will be shared with teachers this
week. Keyboarding has been added to the third, fourth
and fifth grade schedules. Students will have instruc-
tion two days per week for thirty minutes each
time. The keyboarding lessons will be taught by class-
room teachers. The Technology Team of Curt Coenen,
Alyca Arentsen and Ryan Miller have selected the cur-
riculum and completed lesson plans for the teachers.
The skills taught during this time will have our students
better prepared with the technology skills they will need
to complete our new state assessments. Another fea-
ture of the 2014-2015 schedule is a change to Bomber
Time. Last year, two grades were grouped together
(example: second and third grades had Bomber Time
at the same time) but this year we were able to create
a separate Bomber Time for each grade. This will
allow Beth Lambie time to service more students dur-
ing our intervention and enrichment time.
Middle School News
Our brand new Social Studies curriculum has arrived
and will be used in sixth, seventh and eighth grade
classrooms this fall. This new program covers the C-
3, College, Career and Civic Life standards as well as
the Wisconsin State Standards and has strong authen-
tic primary source analysis for students. Emphasizing
21st Century and College and Career Readiness skills,
students will be required to inquire, locate evidence,
analyze evidence and communicate their results. The
curriculum is rich with media literacy and technology
skills as well.
Our new English/Language Arts curriculum has been
ordered and is on its way. Pearson Common Core Lit-
erature is an exciting new literature program with a
unique Instructional Model that supports the critical
shifts in literacy. The gradual-release-model empha-
sizes building knowledge through content-rich non fic-
tion, reading and writing activities that are grounded in
evidence, and providing texts that are appropriately
complex and focus on academic vocabulary. The heart
of the gradual-release Instructional Model is a focus on
Text Sets. These Text Sets consist of an Anchor Text
with Related readings of multiple genres, centered on a
compelling topic. The goal is for students to form a co-
herent position on the topic by performing research,
holding discussions, and writing an argumentative
analysis.
Annual Seclusion and Restraint Report
During the 2013/2014 school year, there was a total of
one incident of physical restraint and zero incidents of
seclusion.

2014 Doug Opel Memorial Sheboygan
County Jr. Tennis Championship
results
Submitted by Kohler Performing
Arts Organization
Another round of outstanding re-
gional talent descended upon the
Kohler Memorial Theatre earlier
this August and the Finals show on
September 6 at the Kohler Memo-
rial Theater is destined to be an-
other crowd pleaser!
On Saturday, September 6 at
6:00 p.m., the Kohler Performing
Arts Organization hosts its 2nd An-
nual Whos Got Talent? show-
case and a chance for performers
to compete for over $4,000 in prize
money. This years Finalists hail
from Milwaukee, Sheboygan,
Kohler, Elkhart Lake and Howards
Grove. Performances will include
pop songs, show tunes, rap and
opera, as well as classical and
modern piano performances, violin
(with a kick!), stand-up comedy,
Irish Dance (as you have never
seen it before!), as well as a
singing/guitar/comedy act that is
sure to delight!
New this year is a Teen category
along with Youth and Adult cate-
gories of competition. Once again
the audition Judges had a difficult
task of scoring these fabulous per-
formers. Dont decide you hate
me until you hear the end of what
Im about to say. said Ben Olson,
audition Judge and morning DJ
with 104.5/96.1 The Point in
Sheboygan. I hate Irish Dance.
But your performance, the way
your group interacted, your speed
and precisionand that ending! I
am now a fan of Irish dancing! It
is safe to say that the audition
Judges experienced many mo-
ments of shock and awe as the au-
dition process progressed over two
audition rounds.
This years Youth category Fi-
nalists, ages 5 to 12, will definitely
surprise and delight. Not to be
missed is an adorable family trio
act, doing a number from Disneys
Frozen including a very confi-
dent and talented 6 year-old whose
singing ability and poise will
amaze the audience this year.
There will be a Star Wars num-
ber that will bring a wide smile to
your face as well as a comedy
monologue that will impress even
the most seasoned performing arts
aficionado.
The phrase, this is not your av-
erage talent show was coined by
the Producers of Whos Got Tal-
ent? last year and this year is no
exception. Aside from the level
of talent each audition performer
brings to the stage, the best part is
seeing them walk into the audition
all nerves and anxiety, and then
walk onto that stage and shock us
all with their showmanship! ob-
served Rich Tengowski, show Pro-
ducer and Director of Instrumental
Music for Kohler Public Schools.
These folks are often as good as,
if not better than the talent on the
TV show Americas Got Talent.
To Tengowskis point, last years
Youth category winner Kamryn
Jones was approached by the Pro-
ducers of Americas Got Talent
after her Kohler Whos Got Tal-
ent performance received over
3000 hits on YouTube!
For more Finalist information
and some fun sneak peeks of what
to expect at the September 6th Fi-
nalist show, visit Kohler Perform-
ing Arts Organization Facebook
page.
As one performer said, A good
performer knows how to cry on
stage, but a great performer makes
the audience cry. At this years
show, the audience should expect
to feel a myriad of emotions from
these Finalists! Back again is the
Fan Favorite portion of the
show, where audience members
get to choose their Fan Favorites
for the evening by purchasing
votes after each performance. In
return voters receive a cool blink-
ing glow bracelet.
This years Celebrity Judges in-
clude returning Judge Douglas
Manderfield, Disney
performer/producer and former
Chicago Talent Agent, Jennifer
Kasten, voice coach of last years
winner Kamryn Jones, and Laura
Kohler who has a Masters Degree
in Fine Arts Theater and is a card
carrying member of the Screen Ac-
tors Guild and Actor Equity organ-
izations.
Once again there will be Food
Trucks available outside of Kohler
Memorial Theatre starting at 3pm
featuring BoMallies and Frogs
Phillys. Come enjoy a BoBurger,
Truffle fries and more! New this
year will be picnic tables to accom-
modate our Whos Got Talent?
fans.
Tickets are currently for sale on-
line at www.kohlerperformin-
garts.org. $10 for General
Admission and $20 for VIP seat-
ing. Tickets will also be sold at the
door. Dont miss this incredible
showcase of talent! Whos Got
Talent? September 6th @ 6pm at
the Kohler Memorial Theatre, 260
School Street, Kohler, Wisconsin.

Planning a school
fundraiser?Please read
The Kohler Villager
promotional guidelines here!
Kohler Schools contracts with
The Kohler Villager to compile,
print, and distribute the Kohler
Times newsletter as an insert within
The Kohler Villager. There are var-
ious organizations that hold
fundraisers to help support and en-
hance school-related programs, but
are not considered official school-
sponsored organizations. This cre-
ates a dilemma in how to handle
promotion of these events in The
Kohler Villager, especially if the
organizations want posters or other
large graphics promoting their
event to be published.
To help eliminate confusion, the
following guidelines have been es-
tablished:
A text-only press release or arti-
cle will be printed free of charge on
one of the pages adjacent to the
Kohler Times school newsletter
section (or on the KT page if there
is open space that needs filling).
The same will be applied to subse-
quent reminder articles as space al-
lows.
Articles placed on the front page
or toward the front of The Kohler
Villager are at the discretion of the
editor, and depend upon available
space after paid advertisers have
been accommodated. (Destination
Kohler, the Village of Kohler and
the school pay for their section
each month in The Kohler Villager,
hence why articles promoting their
events often appear on the front
page).
Posters, large graphics, or boxed
ads will be considered advertising
and charged the normal rate minus
the 25% nonprofit discount. Paid
ads are generally placed toward the
front of the paper for better expo-
sure. Visit kohlervillager.com and
click the Advertisinglink to
view rates and sizes. Rates can also
be quickly determined by multiply-
ing inches across, times inches
down, times 4.50, divided by 2.
(The width of ads must be 2, 4, 6,
8, or 10 inches across. Dont forget
to subtract 25% form the total for
nonprofits).
For some events like the Kohler
Classic, The Kohler Villager pro-
vides free advertising in exchange
for having its name and logo ap-
pear as a sponsor on event T-shirts
and other promotional materials.
Post-event thank you notes, list
of sponsors, and photos will be
considered as space allows, but or-
ganizations are encouraged to post
them online, then supply a link to
The Kohler Villager to publish.
Facebook works well for that pur-
poses, and is free!
As always, if anyone has any
questions, feel free to email
kohlervillager@charter.net, or call
920-331-4904. (Email is pre-
ferred).
