1 ISSUES REQUIRING MANAGEMENT ATTENTION

There are various administrative matters which require management attention while
implementing an ISO 14001:2004 EMS. Some of those are:

1.1 Involvement of top management is crucial to send right message down the line.

1.2 The top management has to identify and depute an environment representative
on the activity of EMS development and implementation.

1.3 The environment representative should be the person who has access to senior
management, knows the activities of the organization and commands respect
from the fellow employees.

1.4 The environment representative will have to take time off from routine activities.

1.5 Some persons will have to take the time to write / review procedures and work
instructions.

1.6 There may be some resistance from the staff, as changes may have to be made to
existing systems.

1.7 The process of assessment, development & implementation shall take nine
months from the start date.

1.8 Resources shall have to be allocated for the system development

1.9 The system may fail if the cooperation of all concerned is not obtained.

1.10 Periodical review by the EMS Team has to be made for tracking the development
of project.
