Los primeros europeso en instalarse en lo que hoy es Sudfrica fueron los
holandeses de la Compaia de Indias en 1652. Del holandes deriva la lengua actual
afrikaans. Hacia finales del 1700 los ingleses toman Cape Town y poco despues se
instalan en Natal. Ello llev a que los afrikaaners iniciaran, hacia 1830, lo que se conoce
como el Voortrekker o La Gran Travesa, especie de conquista del oeste hacia la
zona central, y fundaran dos repblicas: la de Transvaal y el Orange Free State.
Sudfrica nace formalmente en 1910, siete aos despus que finalizara la segunda
Guerra Anglo-Boer, de la unin de la Gobernacin (britnica) de Cape Town, las ex
repblicas de Transvaal y Free Orange State y la gobernacin (britnica) de Natal. En
1947, el Partido Nacionalista gan pro primera vez el Gobierno e impulsa el
establecimiento (formal ya que en la practica era anterior) del apartheid. En 1961, el
Gobierno del apartheid declara su independencia del Commonwealth. Solo en 1994
se producen las primeras elecciones democrticas, sin distinciones de color o etnia.
79% de la poblacin es negra, 7% son blancos, 10% son colored (mestizos de la unin
de blancos con nativos San y Khoi) y el resto son de origen indio y asitico. El HIV es un
problema muy serio, con una tasa de prevalencia del orden del 23% (en Argentina
ronda el 0,6% y a nivel mundial ronda el 0,4%)
Sudfrica es una repblica federal, con un poder ejecutivo unipersonal y un poder
legislativo unicameral; el territorio se compone de 9 provincias. El voto es secreto y
universal a partir de los 18 aos.

Relacin Bilateral

La relacin de Argentina con Sudfrica data del siglo XIX incluso, durante la segunda
guerra Anglo Boer, Argentina venda caballos al Ejrcito britnico y recibia al primer
grupo de inmigrantes afrikaaners. En 1947 se establecen relaciones diplomticas
formales, pero en 1986 y como forma de presionar para la eliminacin del odioso
rgimen del apartheid, nuestro pas rompe relaciones con SA. Las mismas se
restablecen en 1991, tras la liberacin de Nelson Mandela. La Embajada cubre desde
SA otros nueve pases (Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi,
Mauricio, Lesotho y Swazilandia)

La relacin comercial ah sido ampliamente favorable a nuestro pas a lo largo de la
tlima dcada. Sin embargo, nuestras principales exportaciones, en terminos de
ingreso de divisas, siguen siendo productos de origen agropecuario y sus
manufacturas.

Aproximadamente el 90% de la poblacin sudafricana se localiza en las areas que
rodea a las ciudades de J ohannesburgo, Pretoria, Ciudad del Cabo, Durban y Port
Elizabeth que representan las mayores zonas de actividad econmica del pas y los
mayores centros de consumo.
La poblacin sudafricana se estima en 48,7 millones de habitantes.

PRINCIPALES ACCESOS A MERCADO

PUERTOS: Puerto de Durban, Ciudad del Cabo y Port Elizabeth, carga general y
contenedores. Depsitos para carga general y refrigerada.
AEROPUERTOS: J ohanesburgo y Ciudad del Cabo con depsitos para carga general y
refrigerada.
Sudfrica cuenta con una excelente infraestructura vial y portuaria como asimismo
aeropuertos internacionales con todo tipo de facilidades para la conservacin
alimenticia.
Existe una distribucin mayorista con mercados de concentracin en las principales
ciudades y una muy eficiente red de supermercados en todo el pas, con una calidad
de packaging de exportacin en cada uno de sus productos, tanto frescos,
refrigerados o congelados. Tambien existen carnicerias independientes que abaratan
sus costos evitando el empaquetado.

Uno de los inconvenientes para el ingreso es la radiacin a la que tiene que estar sujeta
el producto antes de entrar al pais. Varios productores nos informaron que dicha radiacin
afecta la textura o color de la miel.

La aduana sudafricana. en concordancia con la ley local que considera delito el uso de
moneda extranjera en territorio sudafricano. publica sus estadsticas en Rand. que es la
moneda local. Con el objeto de facilitar la interpretacin de las estadsticas. esta
Embajada realiza la conversin de Rand a U$. El Rand. por diferentes razones. ha
tenido a lo largo del ao un alta volatilidad. con un 30% de apreciacin de enero a
agosto. En este ultimo mes se estabiliz en alrededor de 1U$ =7.3 Rands. En este
sentido. hemos realizado la conversin de las estadsticas asignando un valor al Rand

un poco ms bajo que el promedio anual (7.5 por unidad) ya que entendemos esto
refleja mejor el movimiento comercial y las posibilidades a futuro.

CONDICIONES DE IMPORTACION:

IMPORT CONDITIONS FOR PURE HONEY
1. Importer shall arrange with the Manager of Irradiation pl ant (paragraph 2.5)
pri or to import of consignment. for immedi ate irradiation thereof. Written
approval for removal from the port of entry must be obtained from the
Executi ve Officer of the Agricultural Pests Act. 1983 (Act No.36 of 1983)
before removal to the irradiation plant.
2. Each consignment shall be -
2.1 packed in sealed durable cans/canisters.
2.2 packed in cans/canisters sealed with tight fitting lids.
2.3 packed and transported in such a way that no spillage shall occur.
2.4 packed in cans/canisters not exceeding 610 mm in diameter and
the height thereof to be determined by the Manager of the relevant
Irradiation Plant.
2.5 consigned by the supplier in the foreign country in the name of theImporter directly to one of the
following Irradiation Plants:
2.5.1 BIOGAM-AEC. PELINDABA. PRETORIA;
2.5.2 GAMWAVE (PTY) LTD. 19 THE AVENUE EAST. PROSPECTON. DURBAN;
2.5.3 HEPRO CAPE (PTY) LTD. 6 FERRULE AVENUE. MONTAGUE
GARDENS. CAPE TOWN; OR
2.5.4 ISO-STER (PTY) LTD. 1 WATERPAS ROAD. ISANDO.
for irradiation at a minimum absorbed dosage of 10 kGy and a
maximum absorbed dosage of 20 kGy.
2.6 inspected on arrival by the Executive Officer of the Agricultural Pests Act.
1983 (Act No.36 of 1983) at the port of entry. Should no leakage(s) occur
the importer shall be permitted by means of written consent from the
Executive Officer. to transport the consignment to the relevant Irradiation
Plant.

3. On arrival at the Irradiation Plant. the importer or his agent shall inform the
Executive Officer of date and time of opening of containers with cans and
canisters. Containers shall only be opened under supervision of the Executive
Officer.
4. Honey shall only be irradiated in the original sealed cans/canisters in which the
honey was imported.
5. Removal of containers with cans/canisters from the above premises shall be
subject to
written confirmation by the relevant Plant Manager that the required irradiation
treatment has been applied (minimum absorbed dosage of 10 kGy) for each
batch. cage or carrier [drum/packing unit] treated; and
written consent from the Executive Officer.
6. Irradiation treatment shall be done at the importer's risk. The Executive Officer
will by no means be held liable for any damage or loss resulting from such
prescribed treatment(s).
7. Irradiation of honey is subject to the approval of the Department of National Health
and Population Development of the RSA.
8. Leaking containers of the first consignment shall be sealed and decontaminated
under supervision of the Executive Officer and the total consignment shall be
returned to the country of origin.
9. Should the second consignment contain leaking containers. similar procedures
shall be followed as described in 8. AND the permit shall be withdrawn.
10. The importer shall be responsible for all expenses involved.

(a) ISO-STER (PTY) LTD. 1 Waterpas Road. Isando;
(b) HEPRO CAPE (PTY) LTD. 6 Ferrule Avenue. Montague Gardens. Cape
Town; or
(c) GAMWAVE (PTY) LTD. 19 The Avenue East. Prospecton. Durban.
for irradiation at a minimum absorbed dosage of 10 kGy.
