2014 BAR EXAM UPDATES (Please share!!

)
For the information of all 2014 Bar Examinees, reproduced below are the matters that were
discussed by the Philippine Association of the Law Schools (PALS) with Associate Justice
Diosdado Peralta, Chairman of the 2014 Bar Examinations Committee, yesterday, 12 August
2014, at Softel, Manila. As discussed, the 2014 Bar Examinees may expect the following, to wit:
a. Emphasis on the application of basic legal principles;
b. More essay questions;
c. Less multiple choice questions, the percentage of which may vary depending on the subject
but not to exceed 20% of total examination questions;
d. Fairness and simplicity in the formulation of multiple choice questions;
e. Legal forms will not be included in the bar examinations;
f. For Mercantile law, most questions will come from important commercial laws such as
Corporation Code, Negotiable Instruments Law, Transportation and Insurance Laws;
g. For Criminal law, (i) most questions will come from Revised Penal Code; (ii) no questions on
illegal possession of frearms, and that (iii) other possible areas of concentration would be on
dangerous drugs law, RA 9344 (Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act), RA 9262 (Violence Against
Women and Children Act), RA 7610 (Child Abuse), Child Trafcking (diferentiate trafcking and
kidnapping), RA 7610 (Child Abuse), RA 3019 (Anti-Graft), and RA 7080 (Plunder Law);
h. For Taxation, areas of concentration may include the topics on jurisdiction, procedure, basic
principles on tarif and customs, limited questions on computations
i. For Remedial Law, areas of concentration may include writ of Amparo, writ of kalikasan, writ of
habeas data; alternative dispute resolution, and mediation;
j. No ethics questions in each bar subject;
k. Afternoon examination will be for 4 hours, i.e., from 2 pm to 6 pm; and the
l. Target release of bar results is the frst week of March.
