General
WITELCOM Javelin Link is a family of high capacity Layer 2 point to point system for backhauling
applications. The Javelin is equipped with gigabit interface, allowing the unit to provide up to 250
260 Mbps real throughput under ideal conditions.

The user interface on Javelin is designed with focus on simplicity and speed, and does not provide
much selectable and advanced options, as the most favorable settings is applied automatically.
This allows operators to setup high capacity systems with less effort and expertise than
comparable alternatives.

All wireless links in Javelin operates fully adaptive, and will provide Link Rate depending on link
quality and capacity needed. Some settings, like system range parameters, are not calculated
automatically, and needs to be set by the user.

Javelin system administration is mainly done via WEB-browser. Use an up to date WEB-browser
(Firefox or Opera recommended). SSH access for regular Linux shell-based configuration is also
available, but Witelcom provides no user support for manual configuration via SSH/console.

Javelin Menu Structure
The menu structure of Javelin consists of the following main menus:
Status
Status Overview, for system wide overview of running status and connectivity
Bandwidth Usage, for user to monitor real time bandwidth usage
Connected Hosts, presenting a list of connected hosts on the wireless interface and a
ARP/RARP listing.
Setup
Setup Network, for setting the main parameters on networking and wireless system
Router Access, for administrating the username and password for web and SSH access to the
unit.
Identification, for setting the host name. Note that the hostname will be visible in CDP-capable
devices for convenient system identification.
Time, for system time synchronization by NTP
Maintenance
Backup/restore, for doing system configuration backup and restore, as well as the possibility
to reset the unit to factory default (*).
Update Firmware, for uploading new firmware versions.
Reboot, for immediate and scheduled reboot function.

(*) Javelin factory default settings:

Status - Overview

On the Overview menu the received signal level is shown and gives a quick color indication on the
Signal Level, and the received signal level in dBm. The green color indicates good signal, yellow
color indicates low signal and red color indicates bad signal. Blue color indicates too high
signal. Ideal signal level is considered -55 to -65 dBm for full speed. Below the Signal Bar, the
individual RX signals for Left and Right MIMO-chain is displayed.

Overall received signal level

Below the Signal Bars, a field for the basic networking information is shown.

The status/info fields are:
Wireless Mode: What wireless mode the unit runs Master or Slave
Wireless MAC: MAC address on BTS WLAN or the MAC address of the connected Client.
AP SSID: The common network name the units are using
Operation channel: Frequency/channel number
Operation bandwidth: Indicates if the unit is operating in 20 or 40 MHz channel width.
Connect station: MAC address of the connected station
Encryption: Wireless Security Mode; WEP, WPA, WPA2, IEEE802.1X or None
Range setting: Link range setting in meters
Ethernet status: shows 10/100/1000 Mbps link rate on Ethernet. Gigabit will display green field.
LAN IP address: System IP address (on the bridge interface)
LAN netmask: System subnet netmask (on the bridge interface)
LAN MAC address: System MAC address (Ethernet/bridge interface)
LAN Gateway IP: System default gateway address
Memory Usage: Display how much of the system memory is in use in MB and percentage.
CPU temperature: Displays the system temperature
CPU Load Average: Displays the system load in average pr 1 minute, 5 minutes and 15 minutes period.
Channel Width (MHz): Operating Channel and mode; 5, 10, 20 or 20/40 MHz. HT indicates MIMO.

Status Bandwidth Usage
Shows bandwidth graphs of real time traffic for upload, download and total in Kbyte per second.
By selecting expand, the corresponding graph opens in a separate window.

Status Connected Hosts
The refresh rate of the host field can be altered from never to 60 seconds.
First field displays the connected wireless hosts and their corresponding MAC address, the RX
signal for the MIMO chains in dBm as well as the TX/RX rate and MCS they communicate with
each other.

The lower field displays the ARP list of connected hosts.

Setup Network
This menu is the main menu for setting the system parameters for both wireless and TCP/IP.

Mode: For selecting the wireless mode Master or Slave. Slave can only connect to a master. The
Master may have several Slaves connected, however the Javelin Link was designed for being a
point to point system, hence a multipoint configuration is not recommended.

Network: For setting the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS for the unit.
Wireless Master Mode
Operation Mode: For selecting AB or N mode Default is N+A (5GHz N-standard)
Channel Width: For selecting 20 or 40 MHz spectrum channel width
Transmit Power: For selecting the RF TX power from max or manual setting 0-35dbm
Range: For setting the link range in meters
Wireless MAC filter: For setting ACL with accept/deny MAC addresses
Access Point SSID: For setting the network name SSID
Frequency (MHz): For selecting the frequency to operate
Encryption: For selecting the encrypting type WPA2 recommended (*)
Password: The shared secret password to use in the encryption
Broadcast Network: Selecting if SSID should be broadcasted or hidden
Client Isolation: Selecting if client to client communication is allowed or denied.

(*) WEB encryption is supported, but undocumented as it provides no real security and must be
avoided.
