WHAT WE ARE:

Though a simple dot in the social landscape of Niskrity Foundation is very much distinct as
one of the voluntary development Organization in Rajshahi Division of Bangladesh. It was
established in 1985 by a group of dedicated social activist, women activist aiming at multi-
disciplinary and multi-dimensional group working towards socio-economic transformation.
Niskrity`s point of departure has been to reexamine the developmental process and to work
towards development alternatives based on the empowerment of the majority of the people, so
that the people themselves can identify and be involved not only in fulfillment the basic needs
of the present, but in anticipating and creating their own future. As a result, the people will
gain control over their own lives and to ensure participation in nation building process.

Background:

In greater Rajshahi, over the years poor vulnerable communities are continuously fighting
against nature and power structure. As results it cannot go with mainstream of development.
Being the part of that community the progressive people started for the well being of this
deprived community under the banner of Niskrity Foundation. Niskrity Foundation in its
beginning conducted survey to identify the problem and challenges especially HIV AIDS,
trafficking field along with the cross cutting issues gender diversity, rights, governance and so
on. Beyond the baring issue, Day by day it attracts diverse people to contribute for the
vulnerable group. Niskrity Foundation facilitating in its programmatic planning priorities and
main focus on underlying causes of poverty, sex worker & trafficking peoples.

VISION:
To bring about a positive change in social sector that will afford equitable opportunities
to all.

MISSON:
Create scope to enhance skill and capacity with a view to empower the grassroots people
particularly women both from rural and urban areas through providing need based
support and technical assistance.
GOAL:

Enhance skill and capacity of women and their empowerment and Creation of scope for
employment.

Creation of equal opportunities and enforcement of human rights. Establishment of
democratic practice and good governance.

Bring about change in the Bring socio-economic condition particularly of landless,
asset less and marginal farmer and women.

Establish womens human rights divisible part of universal human rights and to combat
discrimination, abuse and violence against women.
Achieve social progress among the grassroots communities through imparting training
to develop confidence and leadership.

Creation of scope to afford equitable opportunities and a gender balanced society.
Organize the unorganized and deprived rural poor through awareness development to
increase necessary resources.
Implement a participatory development policy based on democratic development
strategy.
Organize non-formal primary education for the out of school children and dropouts
thereby providing primary education to the under privileged section.
Check environmental degradation through social forestry program.
Aware the target audience about safe water, sanitation and primary health care.

Test of innovative ideas for peoples development in relation with their needs.

Organizational Approach:

Niskrity Foundation always focus its programming for capacity building of local community in
decision making process of their human rights practices. It identifies the most vulnerable
community and facilitate them to work collectively by forming the community based
organization and works to culture their due entitlement through linkage with service providers
and enhancing negotiation skills. Niskrity Foundation facilitated training sessions, organize
workshop and conduct related social and technical research as per need of the community
development. Gender and climate changes are the crosscutting theme of this organization.
Ultimately, Niskrity Foundation act to enhance their livelihood security and strengthen them to
raise voice in any discrimination thereby establish democracy in local level.

Organizational strategy:

The main strategy is to developing and strengthening the community-based organization and
institution at the grass root level. Focus will be given to make participation of all level
community people in those organizations. This organization will identify their problem and
find solutions based on their local resources through participatory manner. Gender is a cross-
cutting theme of this organization. Niskrity Foundation will provide necessary training, build
up linkage with the relevant Goes/NGOs, and conduct necessary research for the community
based organizations need. However, Niskrity Foundation intends to act as facilitator of the
community based organization to develop their skills of ensuring livelihood and to raise voice
to secure their rights.

Niskrity Foundation has been working in a flood prone area dotted with innumerable
BEELS and recurring flood is a routine event. Socio-economic and culturally most of the
people are far behind from the modern civilization. They belong to the hardcore poor and
deprived of thebasic needs of life. About 90% of people depend on Agro-based activities but
unfortunately; they remain unemployed about 3-4 months in a year due to water in the low land
of BEELS.
Key Organizational Strength of Niskrity Foundation:

Niskrity Foundation a committed organization to ensure its efforts on socio economical
community development, agricultural development, women empowerment, education, health,
rights and governance etc development agenda through its multi cultural approach with a view
to poverty reduction and livelihood security of the vulnerable community.

MANAGEMENT PROCEDURE:

Niskrity Foundation has a committed and competent Executive Committee (E.C) of 7 members
and they are responsible for conducting the organizational activities and implementation of
programs. There is a provision of by monthly EC meetings for reviewing implementation
status, policy planning and new direction towards achievement of program objectives and
organizational goal. In implementation level there is provision of monthly coordination
meeting for program chief along with central level staff. In the field, level there is provision of
monthly staff meeting. All the staffs meet together review progress and performance. Discuss
about shortfalls, constraints, problems and possible solution, and future planning necessary by
theprogram. The entire program heads are accountable to the Executive Director.


Administrative management system:

Niskrity Foundation run in the proper guidance of a variety of diverse professional and
following the participatory management style in shapers. The bottom up information
management and participatory decision-making process is in place. Alternative leadership
development and delegation of authority practice exist and in built in management.

Well-structured organizational set up and competencies:

There is a group of well-experienced staff in multidisciplinary approach and actions of
development. It is stands on its own organizational policy, financial management system and
human resource development system. Director of Niskrity Foundation is an agriculturist and a
potential social activist. Having diversified programming skills and experience over the last 23
years its provides different support and technical services and development innovations to the
community for changing their life and lifestyle. It set the above efforts in its programming
principle.


Niskrity Foundation Resource Center:

An established resource center is growing with Niskrity Foundation in association with diverse
sources for various information and secondary data and for reference for future. The sources
are: Sources of Niskrity Foundation Resource center is to the local and national daily
newspaper, GOB department like DAE, Bangladesh Soil resource institute, ALRD, BJ MAS,
VARC, Ahasania Mission, BRAC University, Department of Anthropology, CARE
Bangladesh and so on.

Financial capacity:

Niskrity Foundation has a strong track record and higher skill finance personnel in its finance
sector. Niskrity Foundation follows a standard financial manual for financial management and
controlling. Cost control and efficient financial management is the key secrecy of good
reputation and trustworthiness of Niskrity Foundation. Now a day, Niskrity Foundation also
has the strength to run its program in context of aid crisis for continuation of development
efforts through its own found, members contribution, community volunteer and few local fund
raising strategies. Obviously its true that local resource mobilization is another methodology
of Niskrity Foundation in terms of crisis situation.

Networking & Collaboration:

Niskrity Foundation facilitates formal informal linkage, network, alliances and partnership
process between the service providing agency/ Institutions and its community led organizations
and beneficiaries. To date it experienced in collaboration work with Non-Government
organization, Government organization and autonomous body like, NGO Forum for Drinking
Water Supply and Sanitation, Ministry of Science, Information and Technology-Govt. of
Bangladesh, Rajshahi University, BRRI, Department of Agriculture Extension, Rajshahi
National (BRAC / PROSHIKA) and International NGO CARE International, MISEREOR
(Germany), LEPRA, ASHOKA and also with CBOs, local NGOs, Civil society etc.

Niskrity Foundation is a member ADAB Rajshahi Chapter, NGO Forum, International
Voluntary Services (IVS), VHSS, CDF, BARCIK, Development Alliance-Rajshahi, and
Campaign for Political Reform (CAPRE) Rajshahi, Steps towards Development. Niskrity is
also working partner of BRAC, PROSHIKA, and DASCOH.

Relationship with stakeholders:

Niskrity Foundation is working with civil society, political leaders, local government, national
international organizations and donors that enable them to grow with working in multicultural
team contexts and pave the way of learning from others.

Excellent acceptance in the community:

For its participatory development approaches Niskrity Foundation is well known in its working
area. It is widely known to community people that in any crisis Niskrity Foundation stand by
them as family member. Niskrity Foundation is assisting its group people to get access to the
common property resources and available service from the duty bearer, its a key strategy to
promote community acceptance of Niskrity Foundation.


However, in this backdrop some committed social workers became more assertive in working
for substantial change to address gender gaps and imbalances. The neat result of their modest
attempt is formation of this organization. Thus it is a non-profit, non-political and volunteer
organization committed to the cause of women and men in particular and disadvantaged,
distressed and risk group people in general.
In light of future directions Niskrity Foundation is in tack towards its vision and mission in
presenting its diverse organizational strengths.

Niskrity Foundation WANTS TO DO:
Depending upon the funding support we are interested to undertake projects on Child welfare,
Adolescent, Health care and Nutritional development, HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness,
Child and Women trafficking Legal aid and Human rights, Rehabilitation to elderly people and
Gender development. We have also a plan to establish a community based training center cum
office at own land.
