Should Socrates be put to Death?
During the war with Athens and Sparta, there was a wise man, named Socrates. Socrates
made Athens a better place and didnt commit any crimes. He was also a teacher, and one of the
students he taught was an enemy to Athens and was part of the Thirty Tyrants after the war.
They were a group that attempted to make Athens an Oligarchy and take away rights. Does
Socrates deserve death? He is innocent and should not be put to death.
Some may say that Socrates deserves death. This is because hes annoying and foolish to
some people since he always expresses his ideas to everyone in Athens. He also taught someone
in the Thirty Tyrants. However, does being annoying or foolish means you get death? If you
have a sibling thats always annoying to you, it doesnt mean you tell your parents and they kill
that sibling. Its insane! Additionally, Socrates taught someone about life and understanding, not
anything related to the Thirty Tyrants. This also shows why Socrates does not deserve death.
A reason why Socrates is innocent is because he didnt commit any crimes. Socrates has
bright ideas and doesnt do anything to others. He never killed anyone or destroyed Athens. He
never even thought about harming Athens. The only thing he did was to express his ideas and
teach others about it. Athenians believe is guilty because of how he acts like this. Thats also not
a crime. Its a personality. Why should he feel pain and be harmed? Violence is not the answer
for people who are innocent, just like Socrates.
In addition, Socrates also makes Athens a better place. This is specifically because of how
he teaches. He allows free classes for people. In his classes, he teaches people theories and
makes them have a clear vision and understand the world. He may act foolish to you, but you
learn something valuable. Its not a law that you cant teach people things. He also makes Athens
a better place by expressing himself, having strong debates about Athens, and by talking about
different feelings about war, so others can learn from him, even if they dont attend his classes,
and others can know whats currently going on. Socrates helps Athens become a better place, so
he should not be put to death.
To say the least, Socrates is innocent because he did not commit one crime and he helped
the city-state of Athens by having its youths and adults have an understanding of the world.
Nobody will deserve death from nothing wrong! What Socrates did was very gentle, and
everyone is thinking about him being foolish. Theyre the foolish ones for not realizing what
Socrates has done! Theyre the foolish ones for making him go through this, and possibly cause
his death! Athens has to open their minds to realize this! Punishments are for the ones who
attempt doing whats not right, not for personalities you hate.
