I met recently with one of our younger couples. Theyre like so many couples
in our community: both are hard-working; they love their kids; and they both
know the Lord and are serving him here in our church. And in one other re-
spect theyre also like other couplestheyre struggling in their marriage. The
pressures of young kids, fnances, jobs and the demands of family life have
just worn them out. They didnt intend for their marriage to reach a critical
place but it did. We talked and cried and prayed together. Then they started
the hard work of reclaiming their marriage for the Lord. And, Im happy to
report, over the last several months theyve come to a new place. Theyre
discovering that their love for Jesus gives them a new capacity for doing
whatever is necessary to build a godly home. Theyre fnding out that they
love each other more than they realized. Im hopeful for them that theyve
turned the corner. The last time we met I challenged them to do four things:
For the husband, when he walks in the door each afternoon, before
he does anything else, to take his wife in his arms and just hold her for ten
seconds, to let her rest in his strength after a full day of taking care of kids,
home and job. I even made them practice, standing there in my offce. It was
pretty cool.
For the wife, to celebrate small victories in the daily improvement of
their marriage. Instead of focusing on things she felt her husband wasnt do-
ing to her satisfaction, to instead look for those small things that hes working
hard to improve.
To prioritize the margins of their home life. By margins I meant
the space between our resources and our needs. For many families, the two
major margins we need to pay attention to are our money and our time. For
many of us, we spend every dime (and borrow more!) and so eliminate any
margin. And when it comes to time, we fll up every available minute with
commitments, activities, trips, whatever. So there isnt any time left. And
when we have little margins left, we have little life.
I encouraged both of them to place their marriage at the center of
their home instead of their kidssomething many modern families have trou-
ble doing. When a marriage is working, the stress in the home lessens dra-
matically, and the kids (kids often act out in concert to the stress levels they
sense in their parents) start acting better without the parents addressing
their behavior directly. God puts husbands and wives together frst then adds
children later. For all of us, attention to our relationship with our spouse is the
frst order of business if we want our homes to refect Biblical values.
This couple isnt alone. Marriage problems are everywhere today. So, for
the three weeks starting Sunday, September 7, Ill be bringing a series of
messages called Under Construction that will help all of us put into place a
deeper, more intimate and healthier understanding of marriage. I hope youll
join us for these weeks. And if you know someone who might be blessed by
these messages, I hope youll take the time to invite them to our church.

building a faithful home, including emphasis on marriage, parenting and
how to use your family to impact the Kingdom. We hope youll join us at

A Fond Farewell
The Lexington Baptist Church family has received notice of the resigna-
tion of Steve Foxworth, our Associate Pastor for Administration. Steve
has served here at LBC for the past 25 years.
In his resignation letter, Steve said After thirty years of serving in two
great churches, it is time for me to turn attention to a path that will lead
up to retirement and beyond. This season at Lexington Baptist has been
amazing. When Frieda and I arrived in 1989 with a four-year old child
in tow, who could have known or even guessed all that the next quar-
ter-century would bring?

I am flled with gratitude for the many, many in this family of faith
who nurtured and cared far beyond what was deserved. I am especially
grateful for the privilege of serving with the men and women of the
church staff, gifted folks with a deep love for the Lord. Their passion,
under Pastor Mikes visionary leadership, will help guide this church to
extraordinary places for years to come.

I am very excited about the days ahead, for you and for me. May Gods
grace and peace fow abundantly as we move along this journey of be-
coming all we were created to be.
A church-wide reception honoring the Foxworths will be held
on Sunday, September 14 in the Fellowship Hall, following the
10:30 a.m. Worship service.
LexKids Serve
Last month, many of our families spent their Sunday afternoon being really
intentional with their time. They were asked to complete a Random Acts of
Kindness scavenger hunt. It wasnt a race, and we heard amazing stories
of encouragement and life change for our kids and within our community.
The tasks were simple- deliver a fower to one of our senior adults, assist
with groceries and carts at a local store, deliver a water bottle to someone
working out or playing outside, serve a neighbor and deliver a goody bag to
someone who serves others. Those simple acts led to so much more. Just
read these stories of Gods goodness. . .
Caroline was still beaming as she went to bed tonight! The family that she gave the bottled water to last Sun-
day afternoon as they were bike riding came to church this morning! The bottled water was included in a scav-
enger hunt activity from our church that helped children learn how to serve others. Caroline was all smiles this
am when I picked her up from SS and there was Jada! A bottle of water! God is good! ~ Melissa Leviner
Continuing our road trip to help and serve others! Please be in prayer for Tiffany and her mom, Linda. The Lord
placed us in each others paths today. Her mom is going through what my parents went through. So thankful
for The Lord putting people together to love on each other in such a deliberate way! ~ Krystel Martin

I am overwhelmed and humbled that God chooses to use imperfect, messy, and broken people like you and me
to reveal himself. I am also amazed how our children continue to teach us about the true heart of a servant.
Here is the coolest part: displaying Gods love to the world isnt a one day thing.
Today we showed our kids that its not all about us! We were hot and sweaty, napless, and a little nervous about
how the kids would act at the senior living facility! But God squashed every hesitation and blessed us with a day
full of showing Gods love and receiving the joy that comes in doing so! Weve already agreed as a family that
every Sunday will be Service Sunday. ~ Holly Warren
Is God challenging you to step out of your comfort zone and do something new? This month,
we are challenging our families to develop a Family Mission Statement. A Family Mission State-
ment is a unifed expression of what your family wants to become. It defnes your familys
goals and objectives and explains what your family is all about. It answers the question:
where are we going as a family? How are we gifted and how can we serve others better? We
will be sending home more information with your children about
forming a Family Mission Statement this month so be on the look
out!

Student Ministry Families,
Lexington Baptist Churchs mission statement is, To make disciples in
Lexington and around the world. Our desire is to partner with families in
this disciple-making process. This fall, we have so much to offer for mid-
dle and high school students. On Wednesday nights we have Encounter
431 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in The City (FLC). Students will experience wor-
ship, teaching and small group communities. On Sunday evenings from 5
to 7 p.m., we are opening up our doors for students to fellowship. We will
have organized activities and other opportunities for
students to connect to our ministry. The only request I
have for you parents is to get your students here. We
cant wait to watch God do amazing things in our min-
istry this coming school year.

Now that fall is back here are a few things to get excited for: lower temperatures, football and Encounter431!
We kick-off Encounter431 on August 20, and well be starting a new series called Alive.
Words are powerful. You probably already knew that. Words can make your day or ruin it. Words can make
friends or create enemies. On a global level, words can start a revolution or bring peace. Now, think about how
much more powerful Gods words are than ours. Simply by speaking, He caused the world to be created, along
with everything in it: mountains, oceans, thunderstorms, planets, the sun. He spoke all of it into existence! By
His words, He caused nations to rise and fall, and people who were dead came back to life. Gods words are the
most powerful force in our entire world, but if were honest, most of us dont think of them that way. We hear
Gods Word or the Bible and think about an old dusty book, something complicated, outdated or even boring.
But what if it was never meant to be that way? What if were missing out by seeing it as simply a history book
or something to study? As we take a closer look at Gods Word, we may be surprised at what
we fnd. God is inviting us to hold, read and experience the very same Word that created ev-
erything we see. Its more than a book. Its better than a story. Its alive.

Being the Aroma of Christ
For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are
perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life.
- 2 Corinthians 2:15-16 ESV
My kids are so attracted to smells. They have no apprehension about sticking their nose into a fower, whether it is real or
not, to decide if it smells good or bad. Dat fwower smells pwetty Mommy or Im not too sure about that one, Daddy
the difference between our three year-old and our fve year-old. Were in that phase of life where we answer and ask
lots of questions. Its a great time of discovery in our house.
I love the imagery that Paul uses with the Corinthians. To the people around them, they either smell like someone who
confrms their death and separation from a life in heaven or to others as this beautiful aroma that leads them towards
eternal life. For the believer, Jesus changes everything about us our outlook on life, relationships with other people, the
things that really matter, our view about death and dying. I want to thank you for being a sweet aroma of Christ to me
and my family these past several weeks. The outpouring of love and support through cards, letters,
phone calls, and hugs has been so overwhelming to both Kimberly and me during this time of loss. My
prayer for you is that your aroma smells so strongly of Jesus that your neighbors are overwhelmed by
it and compelled by it to be different, to move from death to life.

Upward Basketball & Cheerleading
Lexington Baptist Church is proud to host UPWARD Sports once again!
UPWARD Sports is a Christian recreation program that tries to teach chil-
dren about sports, teamwork, sportsmanship, but most of all about the love
of Christ. Our Basketball and Cheerleading season runs mid-November
through February 7. Players practice one night a week for one hour and play their games on Saturdays.

We are pleased to announce that our new Upward Director is Lee Carter. Lee has worked with our UPWARD
Sports program for the last eight years, as a parent and a coach.

Registration opens September 1 to boys and girls in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Sixth grade girls wishing to
play basketball are also allowed to register. Registration may be done online by going to the main LBC website
and following the UPWARD Sports link, or brochures may be picked up at the Family Life Center. The cost to
participate in basketball is $80, and the cost to cheer is $70 if registered before the deadline. The DEADLINE for
registration is October 9.
Participants must attend an evaluation on either Thursday, Oct. 9th or on Saturday, Oct. 11th at the LBC Family
Life Center. Please arrive at the assigned evaluation time for your participants grade level.

Local Missions
Of course, there are countless opportunities to serve God and the peo-
ple that He loves right here in our local community. Below is an excerpt
from a thank-you letter from one of the schools supported by our Impact
Schools ministry:

to Red Bank Elementary School. Whether it is through mentoring stu-
dents, supporting the weekend snack pack program, helping to fnance a
luncheon or through the prayers that are coveted, we thank you. Togeth-

Short-Term Missions Trip
It has been an incredible summer and many of our LBC members have been
blessed by the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ by serving on short-
term mission trips. Below are just a few of their comments on how they saw God
working far from home:
I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity I had to go to Turkey. I have such
an admiration and appreciation for the missionaries and the sacrifces they are
making while serving in Central Asia. I am in awe of their life and how they look
at their work as a gift from God. Many are in dangerous locations, yet they have
such joy and peace. I went to be an encouragement to the missionaries and their
children, but I am the one who came home encouraged and blessed.

While walking through the streets of Istanbul, I had the opportunity to give out an SD card with the Bible, the Jesus flm
and other material in Farsi on it to a Muslim couple from Iran. As I did, I got chills up and down my arms knowing that this
little gesture may be the seed that brings them to Christ in the future. I knew that God was right with me at that moment.

The people of Guatemala are so gracious for anything we do for them. This is an impoverished country but they make
do with what they have and display contentment and love. It is such a joy to serve with Dr. Sergio and see what he and
his family sacrifces to care for his people in the name of Jesus. My most memorable moment thus far has been singing
Jesus Loves Me in Spanish with the local children and having them fnd me on the soccer feld the next day to sit with
me and sing it again.

Throughout the month of October, we will be highlight-
ing our Impact Prison ministry. Please be watching for
exciting testimonies and meaningful ways you can be
involved in this extremely rewarding ministry.

This SeptemberCelebrate Women: Another Kind of Pearl
Deep within the lives and hearts of women, danger and beauty live side-by-side. In the ebb and fow of life,
Daughters of the King, created in His image, are attacked unfairly by the tides of crises. Every cultures ocean
line of devastation is unique, yet each bears the markings of pain and suffering. In the midst of this stormy
struggle, every woman makes a choice that will write the story of her life in the sands of time. When attacked,
she can choose, like the oyster, to weave a story of hope in the midst of her pain. Slowly over months or years,
Women at Risk, International offers a protected place to turn this attack into a pearl of great price, deep god-
liness and unspeakable beauty. Would you like to be a part of touching the lives of these women, but arent
sure how? This fall, at our Womens Ministry Kick-Off Event, you will have the opportunity to make a difference.
Ladies of all ages join us Sunday, September 14th at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall as the LBC Womens
Ministry partners with WAR, International (WAR) for Celebrate Women. WAR is a non-proft organization
which tirelessly rescues women and children from the horror of human traffcking, providing them with spiritu-
ally-focused medical care, counseling, education and job skill training. By purchasing their beautiful handmade
jewelry and other items at the event you will have the opportunity to wrap arms of love and protection around
these wounded women by supporting the efforts of WAR as they continue to rescue women from sexual slav-
ery, train them to work with dignity and present them with true Christ-centered hope.
Invite friends and bring your favorite appetizer or dessert to share as we celebrate women through
food, fellowship, connection and making a difference in the lives of Women at Risk. The kick-off event will also
be a chance to learn more about opportunities for women to connect within Lexington Baptist Church including
womens small groups, bible studies and outreach opportunities within the church and community.
THE PROBLEM:
- Every year between 700,000 and 4 million individuals are illegally traffcked against their will- 50% are chil-
dren, 70% of the women are sold into sexual slavery, 100% long to be free
- The new slavery, human traffcking, is the fastest growing segment of organized crime- 100,000 are traffcked
inside America
- Babies are sold into slavery globally for as little as $100
- Every 14 seconds a child is orphaned by HIV/AIDS
- 114 to 200 million women are demographically missing due to infanticide, dowry deaths, domestic violence
and all manner of risk

THE SOLUTION:
WAR has a passion to give a voice to the silenced cries of women and children around the world who fow
through the organization, creating circles of protection in the name of Christ. WAR offers a safe place to turn
crisis into a story of hope and whispering the message of worth. There is no greater joy than to see a woman
or child rescued, restored and empowered to support herself with dignity.

Womens Small Groups
Join a Womens Small Group this fall. Womens small groups are unique and different than traditional Bible
study groups. In a day and age where it is almost impossible to foster deep, transparent, prayer-flled rela-
tionships, these groups are meant to encourage those types of relationships that God created us as women to
desire. Rather than meeting together for a set amount of time to go through a short-term study, these ongoing
closed groups are facilitated by their mentor leader to grow spiritually, talk about their struggles, pray for one
another and encourage each other to grow deeper in their individual relationships with Christ.Take advantage
of this refreshing opportunity to have organic and honest relationships with other like-minded Christians and to
rejoice together in the many ways we can see the Lord at work daily if only our eyes are open. More information

This month, our mens Bible study will be held on Friday, September 26. Foster Christy is returning as our guest
teacher, and we would love for all men to experience what this study has to offer. We come together once a
month on Friday mornings from 7 to 8 a.m. in the Reception Hall. Well have doughnuts, coffee and wonderful
fellowship. This study is for men of all ages and stages.
Fitness Bootcamp for
Women

Open to all ladies age 15 and up. Class size
is limited to frst 50 to sign up and pay. This
group and individualized varied workout rou-
tines and extreme ftness program is designed
to get you in best shape of your life. You will
receive full ftness assessments before and
after the eight-week class. Class starts Sep-
tember 9 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from
6 to 7 p.m. at the Family Life Center. Cost
is $100.00. The overall Biggest Loser gets

Designed for men of all ftness levels who
want to get or stay in the best shape of their
lives in a positive challenging group. This

Fall Womens Bible Study
If you are looking to fellowship with women of all ages and
