National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare

The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, the nations second largest non-
profit advocacy and education organization has an immediate opening for a Grassroots Associate to
provide support and to coordinate the activities of our Grassroots department.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Maintains a diverse network of members, opinion leaders, volunteers, activists, and partner
organizations through developing and maintaining the volunteer database
Coordinates a corps of volunteers to support events in Washington DC and on Capitol Hill
Provides support for meetings, projects and follow-up actions; researches and assembles
information for use in discussions, presentations and reports for the department
Coordinates the review process for items such as timesheets, vouchers and check requests,
including volunteer expense reimbursements
Participates in the development of the Grassroots annual budget, monitors on-going spending of
project budgets in coordination with the Director and the Grassroots staff
Provides administrative and organizational support for National Committee Volunteer
Programs; ensures appropriate development, updating and dissemination of materials and
literature
Establishes and maintains files and records for Grassroots
Supervises purchases of office supplies and giveaways and material for volunteers.
Assists with the coordination of administrative functions within the department, including
budgetary input for exhibits, mailings and volunteer program projects
Supervises assignment of portable office equipment for use during Grassroots travel assignments
Assists the Grassroots Director in addressing staff issues and related concerns as required
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent is required; Business school or completion of college course work in
business administration and/or management is preferred. Three years of experience working in a
responsible administrative/organizational role. Grassroots or issue advocacy campaign experience
preferred.
Good oral and written communication skills; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, excellent
attention to detail, ability to work well with the public; ability to work independently; advanced
computer skills and experience working with word processing, data management and presentation
software are also required.
