at Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center, with fve other medical/surgical staff, volunteered their time to perform surgeries on several underprivileged locals in Honduras. The group traveled with Evangelistic International Ministries, Inc., to participate in a short-term medical mission to Hospital Centro Socorro Del Lo Alto in Honduras. During fve days of surgery, Dr. Reiss and other surgical teams and students performed over 75 surgical cases that included gallbladders, hernias and thyroid surgeries. Everyone worked long days in providing care to the people of Honduras. After several days of hard work, the team was rewarded with much needed rest and relaxation by traveling to the vacation island of Roatan, Honduras. We felt blessed to serve with such an amazing team of people that shared a common goal to help others, said Jennifer Eanes. We would like to thank Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center and our co-workers for their support, encouragement and prayers for giving us the opportunity to give back and participate in the medical mission trip. If anyone has a desire to serve others, we encourage them to go on a medical mission trip. They will not regret it, added Eanes. MEET THE NURSES (Left to right): Joanne Friesen, Pam Eggimann, Jamie Covington, Crystal McVay and Angie Schreiber 3 Becker's Hospital Review recently published the 2014 edition of "100 Great Community Hospitals," a list based on hospitals' accolades, quality of care and services provided to their patient populations. Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center made the list for the second consecutive year. The hospitals featured on the list have fewer than 550 beds and minimal teaching programs. Some are suburban hospitals, but many are located in rural areas and are their communities' sole hospital. All have worked to provide the experience and quality of care their patients expect and deserve.
The Becker's Hospital Review editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on rankings and awards from iVantage Health Analytics, Truven Health Analytics, CareChex and American Hospital Association. iVantage recognitions considered include Healthstrong Hospitals, which are organizations in the top tier of iVantage's Hospital Strength Index rankings, and the Top 100 Critical Access Hospital list, which indicates the critical access hospital performs as well or better at the median overall than all U.S. general acute-care hospitals in clinical and operational performance and fnancial outcomes. Inclusion on Truven Health Analytics' 100 Top Hospitals list was also factored in the decision. Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center Named to 100 Great Community Hospitals List HCA Hope Fund GULF COAST REGI ONAL MEDI CAL CENTER A BI - WEEKLY PUBLI CATI ON FOR EMPLOYEES SEPTEMBER 8, 2014 ALS Ice Bucket Challenge On August 20, the senior leadership team at Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center accepted the ALS Ice Bucket challenge from Capital Regional Medical Center, made a donation to ALS, and, in turn, challenged Tony Bennett, CEO at Health South Emerald Coast Rehabilitation Hospital; Al McCambry, Gulf Coast State College; Mark Bush, CEO at Northwest Florida Community Hospital; and Larry Mees, CEO at Jackson Hospital. Challenge Extended. Challenge Accepted. (Left to right): Erika Guidera; Holly Jackson, COO; Carlton Ulmer, CEO; Laurie Haynes, CFO, Mary Reval, CNO; and John Herrington As HCA employees, it is our top priority to take excellent care of our patients, but to also take care of each other. The HCA Hope Fund was established in 2004 as hundreds of our colleagues were affected by the coastal hurricanes. Immediately following the storms, HCA employees throughout the United States wanted to know how they could help. Contributions came in and were disbursed out to HCA families that had been impacted. To these families, the contributions from their fellow employees represented much more than fnancial relief, they represented hope that life might soon return to normal. Our colleagues are not just co-workers, they are our family and we have always rallied around one another when devastation strikes. So what started as a very informal way to help one another, soon evolved to a formal non-proft organization, the HCA Hope Fund. Our fund is supported by employees allowing us to do what we do best, take care of others.
