Workshop Registration Information
Workshops are approved for training credit by the MSDE Office of Child Care Credentialing Branch

Registration. All workshop participants must pre-register NO EXCEPTIONS. Participants are required to register and pay for workshops in advance.
Registration is accepted by phone, mail or in person. The training line for phone-in registration is operational from 8:30am-3:30pm, Monday-Friday.
Visa or MasterCard required for all registrations done by phone. Mail registration form to Child Care Links of Harford/Cecil Counties 2105 Laurel Bush
Rd., Suite 105, Bel Air, MD 21015. Child Care Links does not accept personal checks.

Fees Paid are NON-REFUNDABLE. Should you miss a workshop, credit or transfer to another workshop may be given if Child Care Links is notified at
least 24 hours prior to the workshop. If after hours, please leave a message on Child Care Links answering service. No credit or refunds are issued for
No Shows. Call 443-512-0462 with any questions or concerns about our refund or credit policies. Any credits issued are good for one year from the
date of issue.

Late Arrivals. Workshops begin at stated time. Our instructors reserve the right to refuse admittance to any workshop for any participant arriving 15
minutes or more past the start of the workshop. Credit or transfer will be issued at the discretion of the Child Care Links staff for any participant
turned away from training for lateness.

Cancellation or change policy. Child Care Links may need to cancel a workshop due to lack of enrollment; in this event, a CCL staff member will
contact you at the phone number or address you provided upon registration. If we need to cancel a workshop and you do not wish to be transferred to
another training, you will be issued credit good for one year or refunded fees paid for the canceled workshop. If you are phoning in your registration
please verify that we have the correct contact information, including more than one telephone number where you can be reached.

Rude and/or disrespectful behavior during workshop will not be tolerated. Please remember to exercise good judgment and respect for
both the trainer and other participants in your session. It is okay to disagree with facts or opinions presented by the trainer or other participants but
please remember to remain professional. Should you violate this policy, the instructor may ask you to leave the workshop and you will not be re-
admitted, nor will you receive a refund for the class.

Certificates. Core of Knowledge certificates will be issued at the conclusion of the training session for all participants who successfully com-
plete all requirements set forth for the course.

Child care is not provided during workshops. Workshops provided by Child Care Links are intended for adults only. Please make other
arrangements for care of your children during workshop hours.

Workshop locations. Child Care Links has two locations where we offer trainings. One location is at our main office on 2105 Laurel Bush Rd.
Suite 105 Bel Air, MD 21015. The second location is at the YMCA of Elkton on 25 YMCA Blvd. Elkton, Md. 21921. If you need directions to either loca-
tions please let us know upon registering for the trainings.

Inclement Weather - Please note that the training department of Child Care Links follows Harford & Cecil Counties Public School Weather Policy for
closings and delayed openings. If you are scheduled for a workshop and Harford or Cecil County Schools close for inclement weather, our workshop
will be canceled. During the weekend our workshops will be canceled if Parks and Rec. cancels school activities. If, for any reason, this changes, a CCL
staff member will contact you. Attempts will be made to reschedule any canceled workshop.
1 - MSDE Orientation for Accreditation (P) 6:30pm-8:30pm - $5 - Join an
MSDE Accreditation Validator for an overview of the Child Care/Head
Start accreditation process. Become acquainted with standards,
supporting documents, and rating process. Learn about the validation
process and discuss selecting a self-appraisal team. This workshop is
required for programs pursuing MSDE Accreditation and Re-Accreditation.

2 - Child Portfolios (CD) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $25 - In this workshop
participants will be able to define portfolios, what they are and how they
can be used. Effectively document a childs development, conduct an
observation and record data, and use portfolios as a tool to evaluate and
improve the overall structure of their program.

6 - Math Fun for Preschoolers (CU) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 - Participants
will be able to identify the important concepts and skills preschool
children can learn. You will be able to provide opportunities for children
to use mathematical thinking skills everyday.

7 - Ants in their Pants (CU) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 - Sun up to
sundown, extra-busy children have an endless supply of energy and
remain on the move throughout the day. This workshop offers tried and
true techniques to help you provide the best support to active learners.

9 - Basic Sign Language (SN) 6pm-9pm - $25 - This workshop will help
individuals in the use of basic sign language for immediate
communication and/or the preparation for teaching children.

13 - First Aid 6pm-9pm - $35 - This workshop is designed for providers
and parents of young children. Meets Office of Child Care guidelines. First
Aid certificate expires in 2 yrs. from date of issue

15 - CPR 6pm-9pm $35 This workshop is designed for providers and
parents of young children. Meets Office of Child Care guidelines. CPR
certificate expires in 2 yrs. from date of issue



16 - Maryland Excels - What s Next Support Series -
Improving Your Daily Schedule 6pm-8pm - $FREE$
Having a developmentally appropriate schedule is a
requirement for Maryland Excels. Come and learn more about
what daily routines and activities should be included in your
schedule to enhance learning opportunities and help your
program succeed. Participants will also make and take your
own schedule to use in your childcare. (Held at ChildCare
Links).

18- Emergency and Disaster Preparedness (HSN, P) 9am-
3pm - $30 This class is designed for caregivers to become
familiar with COMAR regulations regarding emergency and
disaster preparedness for child care programs. Participants
will complete a written emergency and disaster plan for their
child care programs; gain an understanding of disasters that
are likely to occur in Maryland and understand why their
programs should prepare for emergencies and disasters. This
workshop meets the 6 hour COMAR requirement for child
care centers, family providers, and family child care
applicants. Please Bring a Lunch!

20 - Cooking with Kids (CU, HSN) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15
This class will have your children helping in the kitchen from
an early age! Prepare tasty and nutritious snacks and meals
that only require a few ingredients. This class is designed to
teach children the basics about cooking, kitchen safety and
nutrition while offering recipes for letter pancakes, pirate
boats, popcorn balls, multi-colored crayons, edible play dough
and more!

21 - Child Abuse & Neglect (HSN) 6:15pm-9:15pm - $25
This course will help you identify signs and symptoms of
various types of child abuse and neglect. You will also learn
appropriate responses and reporting expectations according
to Federal Law. We will discuss real life examples of both
abuse and neglect and discuss reasons this is so prevalent in
our society.





23 - Working with Parents (CO) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $25 - The most
effective child care programs are those that actively promote and
encourage parent participation. When staff work together with
parents as a team, they can share and discuss information to meet
childrens needs. This is a key component to the success of any
program. This class is designed to foster a better staff/parent
relationship and address common issues that staff face when working
with children and parents.

24 - SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) 9:30am-11:30am - $20
In this workshop you will learn about safe sleep environments to help
reduce the risk for SIDS and other infant death.

25 - Medication Administration (HSN) 9am-3pm - $60 LIMIT 10
This approved Office of Child Care training teaches all aspects of
giving medication safely in your center to all ages of children. This
includes liquids, pills, capsules, topical, epi-pens and also general
information on inhalers. You will even learn how to properly wash
your hands. Please Bring a Lunch

28 - Classroom Management (P) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $25 - To help
keep your classroom running like a well-oiled machine in the coming
year, weve collected some successful and often fun classroom
management techniques from teacher across the country and around
the world. (See Early Birdflyer for Special Pricing)

30 - Avoiding Burnout for Child Care Provides (P) 6:30pm-9:30pm
$15 - Working with young children can be a challenge. Have you ever
felt like youve had enough of the day-to-day stress that can weigh you
down in child care? Youre not alone; there are many people who feel
the same way. There is help! In this training, we will learn strategies
for avoiding burnout in childcare and share steps to being stress free.

4 - More than Magnets (CU) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 - At heart, every
young child is a scientist, seeking explanations for each new
phenomenon. Participants will learn a variety of strategies and
activities to provide for children of all ages, including those with
special needs, to encourage scientific thinking and exploration, and
recognize that science is more than just magnets!

5 - Working with Mixed Ages (CU) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $25 - This
workshop is designed to help caregivers identify and address the
challenges of working with mixed age groups of children. Strategies
for meeting and understanding the needs of all individuals in the
group will be offered.

6 - Exploring Nature with Young Children (CU) 6:30pm-9:30pm
$25 - This class will open the world of nature to participants in ways
that draw from what they are already doing in day-to-day routines. We
will discuss simple ways to help children of all ages enjoy nature.

8 - Medication Administration (HSN) 9am-3pm - $60 LIMIT 10
This approved Office of Child Care training teaches all aspects of giving
medication safely in your center to all ages of children. This includes
liquids, pills, capsules, topical, epi-pens and also general information

11 - Lets Get Moving (HSN) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 - In this
workshop you will learn how children develop physically. You will
become familiar with the different types of physical movement and
why they are important in a child's physical development. Also
discover ways to support children as they learn to move and develop

12 - Anger Management (P) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $25 - This workshop
is designed to help participants determine what triggers anger and
develop strategies to keep those triggers from tipping us over the
edge. This session will focus on the communication process as a whole
and how positive communication can be used in managing anger

workshop is designed to bridge the gap between the deaf
community and the hearing population through deaf
awareness and introduction to deaf culture. Participants
will learn basic sign.

14 - Pre-Service Mod #1 - From Baby to Bigger Steps:
What Makes a Child Grow (CD) 8:30am-12:30pm - $35
Covers basic child development concepts including stages
of child growth and development, overview of the leading
child theorists and of learning differences . Sign up for all 6
modules for $180.

14 - Pre-Service Mod #2 - Planning for Success (CU)
1pm-5pm - $35 Will give a better understanding of the
components of a family child care curriculum, how to create
a developmentally appropriate curriculum and how to plan
and design a family child care center.

15 - Emergency and Disaster Preparedness (HSN, P)
9am-3pm -$30 - This class is designed for caregivers to
become familiar with COMAR regulations regarding
emergency and disaster preparedness for child care
programs. Participants will complete a written
emergency and disaster plan for their child care programs;
gain an understanding of disasters that are likely to occur
in Maryland and understand why their programs should
prepare for emergencies and disasters. This workshop
meets the 6 hour COMAR requirement for child care
centers, family providers, and family child care applicants.

17 - Cultural Diversity in Your Program (CO) 6:30pm-
9:30pm - $25 - Positive interaction and understanding of
the abilities, cultures, generations and differences of others
helps to develop effective working relationships. (See Early

18 - Maryland Excels - What s Next Support Series -

19 - Helping Children Deal with Grief (CD) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $25
This course is designed to help child care providers identify the
grief process in children from infancy through adolescence and
recognize the role that caregivers play in helping children to cope.
Covers stages of grief, development behavior when faced with loss
at different stages of childhood, and how to help.

20 - Anxiety in Children (1.5SN, 1.5HSN) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15
Aid providers in understanding how anxiety looks in children and
the reasons behind it. Provides practical strategies and ideas for
helping children to cope with anxiety.

21 - Pre-Service Mod # 3 Keeping Kids Fit & Safe (HSN)
8:30am-12:30pm - $35 -Specific focus of this class is centered
upon components of emergency preparedness, menu planning, and
health & safety concerns of young children.

Special Needs (SN) 1pm-5pm - $35 - This class will include basic
information surrounding inclusive child care settings, ADA
requirements in health, behavioral and developmental issues and
concerns.

22 - Pre-Service Mod # 5 Keeping it Real! Professional Practices
for a Successful Program (P) 8:30am-12:30pm - $35 - This
workshop will give providers the opportunity to explore and
understand the importance of specific concepts and practices that
can lay the foundation for a successful program including
supervision , marketing, abuse and neglect, contracts, appropriate
guidance policies and procedures, record keeping and handbooks.

December 2014 Course Descriptions
1 - Understanding Multiple Intelligence (SN, CU) 6:30pm-
9:30pm - $25 - Defining, understanding and creating lessons for
all multiple intelligences to help children learn to the best of
their abilities.

2 - First Aid 6pm-9pm - $35 - This workshop is designed for
providers and parents of young children. Meets Office of Child
Care guidelines. First Aid certificate expires in 2 yrs. from date
of issue.

3 - Making Families Welcome (CO) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $25
First impressions are lasting impressions. Caregivers and
teachers will explore specific strategies for welcoming families;
important roles parents play in their childs education and
ways to represent families in the program and classroom.

4- CPR 6pm-9pm $35 This workshop is designed for
providers and parents of young children. Meets Office of Child
Care guidelines. CPR certificate expires in 2 yrs. from date of
issue.

5 - SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) - 9:30am-11:30am
$20 - In this workshop you will learn about safe sleep
environments to help reduce the risk for SIDS and other infant
death.

6 - Medication Administration (HSN) (Part 1) 9am-3pm - $60
LIMIT 10 - This approved Office of Child Care training teaches
all aspects of giving medication safely in your center to all ages
of children. This includes liquids, pills, capsules, topical,
epi-pens and also general information on inhalers. You will even
learn how to properly wash your hands. Please Bring a Lunch !








8 - Please Help Me with Lesson Planning (CU) 6:30pm-9:30pm
$25 - Effective learning begins with effective planning. Lesson
planning is a crucial part of helping children grow and learn while
they are in the daily care of their childcare providers. This
workshop focuses on the elements of lesson planning that include
designing, implementing, and evaluating learning outcomes.

9 - Thinking Outside the Box - After School Activities (CU, HSN)
6:30pm - 9:30pm - $15 - Learn how to think "Outside the Box" when
planning lessons for school aged children. We will integrate literacy,
science, math problem solving, art, music, fitness and nutrition
activities during this interactive workshop. In addition, we will
discuss the basics of STEM education and engages in STEM
activities.

10 - Managing Your Childs Misbehavior (CD) 6:30pm-9:30pm
$25 - This workshop is designed to help providers gain knowledge
on promoting good behavior as well as taking a look at how to
promote good behavior with a positive approach. (See Early Bird
Flyer for Special Pricing)

13- Emergency and Disaster Preparedness (HSN,P) 9am-3pm
$30 - This class is designed for caregivers to become familiar with
COMAR regulations regarding emergency and disaster
preparedness for child care programs. Participants will
complete a written emergency and disaster plan for their child care
programs; gain an understanding of disasters that are
likely to occur in Maryland and understand why their programs
should prepare for emergencies and disasters. This workshop meets
the 6 hour COMAR requirement for child care centers, family
providers, and family child care applicants. Please Bring a Lunch !
15 - Building Self Esteem in Children (CD) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 - Learn the
principles of self-esteem and how to recognize childrens feelings. How do we
enhance a childs self-esteem?

16 - Nutrition and Obesity in Children (HSN) 6:15pm -9:15pm - $20 - This
course will teach proper nutritional guidelines for children, as well as address
and define the growing problem of obesity in our country. Strategies for dealing
with obesity in children through nutrition, education and exercise will be

18 - Marketing Your Program (P) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $25 - This class will walk
participants through the steps needed to support the enrollment in their
programs and look at creative ways to best organize the structure of their
programs, as well as other critical ways to improve upon their overall
organizational skills.
