PRAYING 4 MY BELOVED CRC (CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH)

WELCOME !
I ORIGINALLY had a website devoted to "MY CRC" on
posterous which was bought out by Twitter and
which, without warning or cause, deleted many of my
various websites despite alleging that they would
continue to maintain all websites as-is after the
buyout. Shame on posterous/twitter (and now they are
closing down altogether at the end of April 2013).
Whatever I had on the posterous site is forever lost
unless I posted by email, which, unfortunately, I did
not do much of, apart from what you see below. Thus,
I am attempting to start-up again, all previous time &
labor is lost and must be duplicated, thanks to
Twitter/posterous and maybe others.

The Christian Reformed Church (CRC or CRCNA) in
North America is a small originally Dutch and Dutch-
American denomination, now multi-ethnic but still
largely of Dutch ancestory. I grew up in the CRC. My
dad was/is an ordained CRC pastor. My late
grandfather was also an ordained CRC pastor.

There's an upcoming CRC gathering in southern
California in April 2013 which I may attend. I will post
periodically here re "my CRC" (& yours too if you are
part of the "family" of believers). Some of the CRC's
more "near and dear" to my heart include 1st CRC in
Grand Rapids (MI) (GR is the corporate headquarters
for the CRC) where our family attended thru the 70's
and mid-80's when I was in elementary, middle, &
most of high school.

Also Bethany CRC in Bellflower, CA is where our
family attended when we first moved to Bellflower
from GR in 1984 and where my grandfather attended
after he retired.

Other CRC's I attended or visited periodically from
time-to-time include Sherman Street CRC in Grand
Rapids, also the CRC led by Pastor Jack Roeda in GR
(can't think of its name at the moment) which started
out at Seymour Christian Elementary school gym and
later moved to a location near Calvin College.I've also
attended a few of the other CRC's in Bellflower...and
the list goes on...

In the early 90's I did disaster relief in Costa Rica after

an earthquake there with the CRWRC (Christian
Reformed World Relief Commission) and one year
later did a summer mission in the Philippines with the
CRWM (Christian Reformed World Missions).

I also attended Calvin Seminary (the seminary that
serves the Christian Reformed Church) for a year
(plus) and later transferred to Fuller Seminary. I LOVE
MY CRC....always have & always will. May they...may
we...continue to serve the Lord faithfully in Spirit & in
Truth !

I don't usually see articles by CRC mentioning anything specific about hollywood
apart from movie reviews now & then.Normally,if u say "hollywood" to the CRC,they
say "Holly who?" As if they've never heard of it. Its nice to see the denomination I
grew up in mention Robin Williams,even if it is critical.

nice....I remember growing up in the
CRC...& we definitely were instilled to
have a self-identity as CRC,which was
definitely not RCA,...albeit my dad &
grandpa,both CRC pastors,never
accentuated the differences much at all.
It was just something you learned at
church & a bit at the Christian schools &
Calvin. I notice Scott Greenway
mentioned in a few articles about synod
.Apparently he's the son of the former
seminary professor,Roger & he's leading
synod this year. I know the Greenways
have some affiliation with the CRC but
still don't know where they originally
came from. The name doesn't sound
Dutch, & most of the old-timers in CRC
history have "funny Dutch names",while
those with names such as Greenway

would normally be found more often in
more Americanized churches,including
the RCA, which has strived,historically,a
bit more to be "American" than the CRC.
I'm just wondering if we are at the point
where those of us with "funny Dutch
names" are going to be marginalized in
the CRC, our last place for solace in an
America that still discriminates against
those with "funny ethnic names",even
those of us who are "white".

(its nice to have a diversity of skin
colors & ethnicities on the board,but is
the church supposed to "evolve" like the
world? What's next? The first
homosexual on the board? The first
transgender? The CRC started as a
Dutch-American denomination,not as a
"white" denomination. It was for persons
with "funny Dutch names" who still get
marginalized in the working world today

communities). And as much as the CRC
claims to be a worldwide
congregation,or at least largely
northAmerican,it still seems to be a
"regional" denomination,midwest in
style & tone. I grew up in GR but after
my family moved to California,some in
the "midwest CRC" marginalized me as
"from California" (along with the out-
dated stale California jokes). If CRC
really wants to be respected as a
national congregation or larger,it needs
parts of the denomination headquarters
to be located on both coasts as well.
Otherwise it will retain its "midwest
bias" forever,at the expense of a lot of

I remember when Michaelson was leading the RCA..he was on my mailing list for a
while. The Lund Principle is a good point of reference. I applaud reconciliation,albeit
I'm not comfortable with church members also being freemasons or other secret
societies.
".Delegates were presented with a proposal to adopt the so-called "Lund Principle,"
which originated out of a
World Council of Churches gathering in 1952. The
document has captured the ecumenical imagination
for half a century, particularly its call to "act together
in all matters except those in which deep differences
of conviction compel us to act separately."
The Lund Principle flips the paradigm of ecumenical
relationships, asserting that the starting point is
always acting together, and demanding a conviction
to justify acting apart. The proposal resonated among

across this article,as I was browsing
online...having searched "harry boer"
because we knew him as a member at
1st CRC in Grand Rapids in his elderly
years (1970's) & also b/c as I was
working on a project with my mom's old
photo album archives I saw a wedding
picture of my mom's uncle gene & aunt
franny with harry boer as the "best
man". Oddly,despite attending 1st crc
with him my parents never mentioned
any connection to him either familial or

theological (maybe they themselves
didn't know). But now that I know I feel
privileged to be able to learn more about
his work & thoughts...I only wish I could
have tapped his brain while he was still
alive. Like him, I also am interested &
active in foreign missions as well, but I
never thought of the pentecost as a
greater source of inspiration for the
mission of the church than the great
commission itself. Interesting. It will take
me a while to digest his material. Here's

roman catholic church edifying,but I won't go so far as to throw "the baby out with
the bathwater". Calvin & Luther et al are/were precious to church history &
challenging some of the problems & even corruption in the roman catholic

NOMINATED AS NEW CRC CEO,(I grew up in
the Christian Reformed Church...my dad & grand-dad are/were crc
pastors so I follow crc news to this day,as I am also an active evangelist
& seminary-educated but not crc ordained. I have done some formal
ministry/mission work for the crc but not yet inclined to become a
formally ordained crc pastor. In fact, I grew up within walking distance
from the crc headquarters at 28th & kalamazoo. I learned how to golf at
the golf course across from the denominational headquarters (Indian
Trails) as well as at the CRC "rec center". I care deeply for "my crc", not
just the dutch ethnic aspects but its mission in the world for Christ:
for,with,& to people of all colors,ethnicities, et al. I pray that Mr
Timmermans will have the wisdom to lead the crc in the right direction. It
will be interesting to watch what he does...apparently he is well-
educated with much experience albeit is not an ordained pastor. Is this
the new direction for the crc? A move away from ordained pastors as
executive officers? Is this a good thing? Or otherwise? Time will tell.

( a few years ago I noticed fuller seminary accepted grant $ from the Lilly
Endowment, & had concerns then, & now calvin seminary is doing likewise. My
concern is that because the Lilly Endowment is indirectly connected to the Eli Lilly
Pharmaceutical giant, there may be some subtle pressure to "speak well" of Eli Lilly
& the use of medication in general rather than the pure gospel. Don't get me wrong. I
think the proper use of medication is fine, but am concerned when society puts pills
on the highest pedestal & potential solution to almost all problems. Certainly, some
preachers will think twice about criticizing pharmaceuticals when they realize that
their class at seminary was paid for by a pharmaceutical company. So I ask, IS

July 26, 2013 Members of a Holland, Mich., Christian
Reformed congregation are rallying around their pastor
after an incident some are calling a hate crime.
Wayne Coleman, pastor of Imagine Fellowship CRC, woke
up early one morning in mid-July to the sound of
someone smashing out the windows of his car. He also
says one of the vandals uttered a racial slur during the
attack.
Holland police quickly responded to the incident, which
led to a high-speed chase and crash, and eventually the
arrest of two suspects who are facing multiple charges.

Arizona, who have both left synod for the funerals of family members.

WELCOME !
I ORIGINALLY had a website devoted to "MY CRC" on
posterous which was bought out by Twitter and
which, without warning or cause, deleted many of my
various websites despite alleging that they would
continue to maintain all websites as-is after the
buyout. Shame on posterous/twitter (and now they are
closing down altogether at the end of April 2013).

Whatever I had on the posterous site is forever lost
unless I posted by email, which, unfortunately, I did
not do much of, apart from what you see below. Thus,
I am attempting to start-up again, all previous time &
labor is lost and must be duplicated, thanks to
Twitter/posterous and maybe others.

The Christian Reformed Church (CRC or CRCNA) in
North America is a small originally Dutch and Dutch-
American denomination, now multi-ethnic but still
largely of Dutch ancestory. I grew up in the CRC. My
dad was/is an ordained CRC pastor. My late
grandfather was also an ordained CRC pastor.

There's an upcoming CRC gathering in southern
California in April 2013 which I may attend. I will post
periodically here re "my CRC" (& yours too if you are
part of the "family" of believers). Some of the CRC's
more "near and dear" to my heart include 1st CRC in
Grand Rapids (MI) (GR is the corporate headquarters
for the CRC) where our family attended thru the 70's
and mid-80's when I was in elementary, middle, &
most of high school.

Also Bethany CRC in Bellflower, CA is where our
family attended when we first moved to Bellflower
from GR in 1984 and where my grandfather attended
after he retired.

Other CRC's I attended or visited periodically from
time-to-time include Sherman Street CRC in Grand
Rapids, also the CRC led by Pastor Jack Roeda in GR

(can't think of its name at the moment) which started
out at Seymour Christian Elementary school gym and
later moved to a location near Calvin College.I've also
attended a few of the other CRC's in Bellflower...and
the list goes on...

In the early 90's I did disaster relief in Costa Rica after
an earthquake there with the CRWRC (Christian
Reformed World Relief Commission) and one year
later did a summer mission in the Philippines with the
CRWM (Christian Reformed World Missions).

I also attended Calvin Seminary (the seminary that
serves the Christian Reformed Church) for a year
(plus) and later transferred to Fuller Seminary. I LOVE
MY CRC....always have & always will. May they...may
we...continue to serve the Lord faithfully in Spirit & in
Truth !
