EFFECTIVENESS OF CREATING LITTLE TEACHERS TO LITTLE LEARNERS

PROGRAM (MUNTING GURO SA MUNTING MAG-AARAL) AT

D. ALBONIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL,
JOSE PANGANIBAN WEST DISTRICT
July 22-October 22, 2013

The study on the Effectiveness of Creating Little Teachers for Little Learners
program at D. Albonia Elementary School, Jose Panganiban West District dated July 22-
October 22, 2013, became a successful innovation that uplifted the skills on the 3 Rs of
learning (Reading, wRiting and Arithmetic) among Grade I pupils, called to be the Little
learners.

It is indeed made the Little Teachers (selected Grade VI pupils) to be more
patient, responsible and caring as school leaders. The time spent during the whole session
made every single minute fruitful as possible. The learning on 3Rs made gradually, by
the joint efforts of the persons involved. Really, learning took place when the program
were implemented and continuously practice because of its effectiveness on the learning
of pupils.

The data has been gathered through the use of questionnaires, checklist and
observations. The formula used in computing the percentage was total number of
responses/total number of respondents x 100 or N/25x100. They were selected by
purposive sampling whereas the respondents were chosen on the basis of their knowledge
on the information desired.
.
Selected grade I pupils, basically the benefactor of the program, the little learners,
the Grade VI pupils known for Little teachers, their parents, and Grade I and VI Teachers
completed the number of respondents. There were 15 identified little learners by Grade I
teacher and as a result the researcher provided them with the same number of teachers.
Because of its positive effect, interested Grade I were also added in list, and another set
of Little teachers were given.

The teaching-learning method was conducted after lunch at Grade VI room, and
the 15 minutes allotted time for each session, extends for 20 to 25 minutes due to the
great perseverance of both learner and teacher. They most of the time, didnt noticed that
they already consumed the 15 minutes lesson because of enjoyment. During the lessons,
the researcher interviewed some Little teachers, and according to them, they can really
felt that they were part of their learners educational growth, and thus made them proud
for themselves. On the other side, the little learner, were also excited in their class with
their Little Teachers. After lunch, they were very eager to look for their ate or kuya,
mam or sir to study new lessons. And that positive behaviour of many Grade I
pupils, gave more motivation to Grade VI pupils. In addition, the researcher also
provided them with the free viand every Wednesday. And it made the Little teachers
more motivated to performed their best as teachers. Many realized that to be a teacher
was not an easy tasks, patience first and foremost should be developed. Responsibility
and concern were also attitudes that arise among teachers.

As for the Grade I adviser, she appreciates the efforts and the program her pupils
indulged with. It really helped, it is a wonderful technique! according to her. But, of
course, not all identified learner positively harvested the fruit of aimed learning. This was
because of one little learner who fail to attend her class regularly, and likewise, the
session provided for them. It was because of habitual absenteeism of such learner. The
adviser even dialogue with the parent involved, for the benefit of the pupil, but until the
end, the pupil, refused to attend his class regularly. And such attitude resulted in poor
performance of the pupil.

With regards to the parents involved, parents of little teachers and learners gladly
permitted their children to be part of the program, believing on the positive effect of such
to their pupils. The researcher provided them a waiver/consent for their pupils. And the
evaluation resulted for even more positive feedback that they recommended to continue
the program.

The checklist on the record of little learners performance was provided by the
researcher for evaluation. It was accomplished by the Grade I adviser. The questionnaires
were given as an assessment tool for the statements of the problem. The contents were as
follows:

1. The factors affect much the Little Teacher-Little Learners relationship in
educational enhancement.
2. The effect of such program to the teachers, parents and pupils themselves.
3. The measures to be employed for the improvement of the program.

The results of the questionnaires were:

According to 25 respondents, the following were factors that affect the Little
Teacher-Little Learner relationship in educational attainment. 3 or 12% of them agreed
to proper time management, 7 or 28% that Little Teachers attitude towards the program
is the prime reason on the success of such, 12 or 48% believed on the attitude of Little
Teacher, 1 or 4% linked the materials for learning, and 2 or 8% of the respondents agreed
that parents attitude is the main factor in learning process under the program.

The teachers, parents and pupils responded 100% positive feedback on the effects of
the program to them. 9 or 35% answered that it made them happy or glad knowing that in
their own little way they helped others, 8 or 32% believed that it taught them to be good
leaders, and 8 or 32% were inspired because they learned 3Rs of learning.

All of the respondents recommended for the continuity of the program, and because
of such recommendations, the program until now is being implemented.

The researcher therefore now concluded that Little Teachers to Little Learners
Program is now considered as one of the best practices of D. Albonia Elementary School.
One greatest factor that contributed the learning of little pupils was the little teachers who
greatly influenced them to be more motivated to give an extra time to study. In so, study
habits were created and developed. Truly the implementation of the program helped in
the attainment on the knowledge on 3Rs of learning among Grade I pupils. It is an
effective aid in helping slow learners to cope up the basic education.

In so, the researcher therefore recommends for the full implementation of the
program at school, and suggests for the adaptation of such for future studies specifically
in developing Grade VI pupils as Little Teachers and Grade I as Little Learners who will
perform in educational process.
