The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt: This month shall mark
for you the beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year for you.
Tell the whole congregation of Israel that on the tenth of this month they are to
take a lamb for each family, a lamb for each household. If a household is too
small for a whole lamb, it shall join its closest neighbor in obtaining one; the lamb
shall be divided in proportion to the number of people who eat of it. Your lamb
shall be without blemish, a year-old male; you may take it from the sheep or from
the goats. You shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month; then the whole
assembled congregation of Israel shall slaughter it at twilight. They shall take
some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in
which they eat it. They shall eat the lamb that same night; they shall eat it roasted
over the fire with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. Do not eat any of it raw or

Reader: A reading from Pauls Epistle to the Romans Romans 13:8-14


Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another
has fulfilled the law. The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery; You
shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet"; and any other
commandment, are summed up in this word, "Love your neighbor as yourself."
Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law.
Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to
wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became

Notices and Events

Musical Outreach committee: As a part of our outreach ministries we are forming a
committee that would support outside performing groups who wish to use our sanctuary.
Among other things, we would act as liaisons between the groups and the church, helping
facilitate practices and coordinating events . If you are interested, please contact Helen Hui or
the church office.
At this mornings 9:15 Forum Mother Susan will discuss the language of worship. In recent
years, the national church has published a number of resources to supplement the liturgy found
in the Book of Common Prayer. During the first half of Pentecost we have been using material
from Enriching Our Worship replacing the BCP Eucharistic Prayer. At the forum we have an
opportunity to talk about our responses to this newer material. Please join in.
Acolyte/Eucharistic Minister Training today, September 7 at noon (after the 10:30 a.m.
service) for all lay ministers who serve at the altar during Sunday services. Questions? Contact

Ministry Outreach: Finding our Ministries and affirming the Ministries we already do
starting tomorrow, Monday, September 8. J oin Anne Pierson at either noon or 5:30 p.m. in the
chapel for discussion and work on finding our various ministries. Sessions will continue twice
a month through December and then pick up in J anuary.
Quilters Plus: The first meeting of the season has been moved to Wednesday, September 10 at
9:00 a.m. Bring a project to work on or just come to share a cup of tea and conversation!
The quilting session will be followed by the ECW Eucharist and Healing Service at 11:00
a.m. and the ECW Meeting at 11:45 a.m. as ECW also will have their first meeting of the
season. Sister Diana will talk about her summer field work at the U.C. Davis Medical Center
in Sacramento, about her ordination to the Diaconate and her future plans. All parishioners
men and women alikeare enthusiastically encouraged to attend. Come, share, and welcome
Sister Diana back to Christ Church.
We need help to provide coffee, snacks and lunch for the Mutual Ministry Review with
Canon Britt on Saturday, September 20. Roughly two dozen people will be taking part in the
all day MMR. Also help is needed to provide a light supper for those who are taking part in the
rehearsal for Sister Dianas ordination to the transitional Diaconate and for a reception after
the ordination. The rehearsal will be at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 2 and the reception
will follow the 7:00 p.m. ordination. Please see or call Lin Chase if you can help. (707-951-

The next Cinema Chat film will be Clo from 5 to 7, directed by Agns Varda and starring

The 9:15 forum on September 21: Paul Gossard will talk about the Holden Community, a
Lutheran retreat community in the Wenatchee National Forest area of the Washington Cascade

Save the date Sunday, September 21, 3:00 pm! The Organ Concerts at Christ Church
welcomes duo-organists Paul Tegels and Dana Robinson for a fun afternoon of music written or
arranged for four hands (and four feet) performed on the Kegg organ. Read more about it in the

The Music Room (formerly known as the choir room) has been refreshed this summer, thanks
to the labors and financial donations of many! There is a set of nice linen-colored robes (lined
and with rope belts) needing to find a home. Sizes are from small (child) to adult. There is also
a set of blue-green plaid sashes. If you have information about these robes or sashes, and/or
would like to offer a home for them, please let Merry Phillips know.
Prayer Requests: if you have special prayer requests for family or close friends to be offered
during the Prayers of the People, please write them on the prayer list at the back of the nave as
you come in on Sundays or contact Deacon Nancy by email nancy.s.streufert@att.net or by

Vestry Meeting Minutes are available on the bulletin board in Lewis Hall for the last three

Eucharistic Visitors: If you are unable to come to worship on a regular basis and would like
communion brought to you on Sunday following our services, please call the parish office
Monday through Friday to request a Eucharistic Visitor.

St. John Chrysostoms feast day is September 13. J ohn was called "Chrysostom" ("Golden
Mouth") because of his eloquence. He was a priest of Antioch, and an outstanding preacher.
(Audiences were warned not to carry large sums of money when they went to hear him speak,
since pickpockets found it very easy to rob his hearers -- they were too intent on his words to
notice what was happening.) His sermons are mostly straightforward expositions of Holy
Scripture (he has extensive commentaries on both Testaments, with special attention to the
Epistles of Paul), and he emphasizes the literal meaning, whereas the style popular at
Alexandria tended to read allegorical meanings into the text. He loved the city and people of
Antioch, and they loved him. However, he became so famous that the Empress at
Constantinople decided that she must have him for her court preacher, and she had him
kidnapped and brought to Constantinople and there made bishop. This was a failure all around.
His sermons against corruption in high places earned him powerful enemies (including the
Empress), and he was sent into exile, where he died. Along with Athanasius of Alexandria,
Basil the Great, and Gregory of Nazianzus, he is counted as one of the Four Great Eastern (or
Greek) Doctors of the Ancient Church. The Four Great Western (or Latin) Doctors are
Ambrose, J erome, Augustine, and Gregory the Great.
