Eskimoes live in a land where the win- ters are are long and very cold. During the short summer months, they live in perma- nent homes of stone or earth. However, their home are useless when the Eskimoes have to travel great distances to hunt for food. During such periods, they need temporary homes to live in the and the only available materials that the Eskimoes can use are ice and snow. Given the absence of the usual building materials, the indigenous Eskimoes have learnt to utilize the snow and convert it into a snug, warm shelter called an igloo. In the language of the Eskimoes, the word igloo simply means house. The igloo is made of blocks of hard packed snow fitted together to make a low, domed-shapped building. The blocks are cut out are cut out with a knife made from walrus ivory as snow does not stick to this kind of knife. Using this method, an Eskimo takes only a few hours to build his home. Inside the igloo, it is warm enough for the family to take off their outer fur cloth- ing. A platform of snow , covered with fur and skins, serves as the family bed. During the cold, arctic nights, the entire family sleeps together for warmth. Cooking is done on a stone stove or lamp that burns seal fat or blubber. A small opening at the top of the igloo lets the smoke out and the fresh air in. The grizzly bear lives in the uplands of western North America. Grizzlies are normally solitary active animals , but in coastal areas the grizzly bears congregate alongside streams, lakes, and river during the salmon spawn . Every other year, the females (sows) produce one to four young (most commonly two) which are small and weigh only about 500 grams (one pound) . A sow is very protective of her offsprings and will attack if she is being threatened. Male grizzly bears can range from weights of 180 to 680 kilograms (400 - 1,500 pounds) and stand 2,44 meters (8 ft) tall on their hind legs; the females are smaller. Their coloring ranges widely across geographic areas, from blond to deep brown or red. These differences, primarily due to the dif- ferent environments, particularly, which regard to diet and temperature. The grizzly has a large hump over the shoulders which is a muscle mass used to poser the forelimbs in digging. The hind legs are more powerful, however. The muscle in the lower legs provide enough strength for the bear to stand up on its hind legs, giving it a better view of its surroundings. The head is large and round with a concave facial profile. In spite of their massive size, these bears can run at speeds of up to 40 kilometers per hour (25 miles per hour). However, they are slower running downhill rather than uphill because of the large hump of muscle over the shoulders.

Nuclear Power There are three separate sources of haz- ard in the process of supplying energy by nuclear power. The radioactive material must travel from its place of manufacture to the power station. Altough the power stations them- selves are solidly built, the container used for the transport of the materials are not. There are normally only two methods of transport available, namely road or rail. Unfortunately, both of these involve close contact with the general public, since the routes are sure to pass near, or even through, heavily populated areas. Next, there is the problem of waste. All nuclear power stations produce wastes that in most cases will remain radioactive for thousand of years. It is impossible to make these wastes nonradioactive, and so they must be stored in one of the inconvenient ways that scientists have invented. For exam- ple, they may be buried under the ground, or dropped into abandoned mines, or sunk in the sea. However, these methods do not solve the problem, since an earthquake could easily, crack the containers open. Finally, there is the problem of acciden- tal exposure due to a leak or an explosion at the power station. As with the other two hazards, this is not very likely, so that it does not provide a serious objection to the nu- clear program. Nevertheless, it can happen. Separately, these three types of risk are not great causes for concern. On the whole through, the probability of disaster is still high.
24. How many ways can the nuclear wastes be transported? (A) One. (D) Five. (B) Two. (E) Six. (C) Three.
25. The purpose of the text is ... (A) to explain how nuclear power energy is supplied. (B) to persuade the readers to use nuclear power energy. (C) to inform the readers about the advan- tages of nuclear power energy. (D) to convince the readers that nuclear power energy is hazardous. (E) to tell the readers about the future prospect of nuclear power energy.
26. Storing radioactive wastes under the ground or sinking them in the sea is still considered unsafe because ... (A) the place is convenient. (B) it is possible to store them there. (C) the methods do not solve the problem. (D) it is impossible to make them non- radioactive. (E) an earthquake could easily break the containers.
27. Separately these three types of risks are not great causes concern. (Paragraph 5) The synonym of underlined word is ... (A) Illness. (B) Health. (C) Danger. (D) Threat. (E) Safety.

Boxing - sport or spectacle? Boxing, amongst other hand-to-hand fighting, has been with us for thousands of years. Originally it was nothing more than bare fist fighting between two willing, and sometimes unwilling competitors for the entertainment of others, Some people argue that it is a relatively safe, disciplined, highly skilled, and technical sport that brings enjoy- ment and employment to a great many peo- ple. Others claim that it is a dangerous and barbaric spectacle that has no place in the civilized world. This article will explore each sides claim in more detail. It will talk about the damage that can be inflicted when two men stand face-to-face with the sole inten- tion of knocking each other out with their fists. It will go on to argue that boxing, or legitimate assault, has no place in the twenty first century. The bell goes and the two warriors ap- proach each other . They are quick. They are strong. They are hard. They are ready to hurt and be hurt. A left fist launches and connects with a nose. They crowds are on their feet. Cheer- ing. Wanting more. Wanting blood. So, boxing; whats it all about? All ani- mals, mostly the males fight from time to time. Sometimes its playing but at other times its serious. Lots of people, including me , enjoy watching boxing. It is disgusting at times thought, especially when theres lots of blood and some boxers died in the ring. In conclusion, both sides of the debate have solid foundations. As has been shown, the arguments for and against have been put forward since boxing began. And it would seem, the argument will continue for at least the foreseeable future, as compromise seem unlikely. Both sides do agree, however, that the debate is better held whilst boxing is li- censed and controlled rather than not. The latter would make it, in my opinion, both sport as well as spectacle.

30. When in boxing disgusting? (A) When someone wins. (B) When there is lots of cheering. (C) When nothing happens. (D) When theres lots of blood. (E) When there is a big applause.
31. It will talk about the demage that can be inflicted when two men stand fece-to- face .... (Paragraph 1) What is the synonim of the underlined word? (A) Imposed. (D)Endangered. (B) Harmed. (E)Threatened. (C) Weakened.
32. Who do you think has the authority to make boxing licensed and controlled? (A) The judge of the game. (B) The sponsors. (C) The promoters. (D) The spectators. (E) The boxing federation.
