A computer is a general purpose device that can be programmed to carry out a set of arithmetic or logical operations automatically.

Since a sequence of operations can be readily changed, the computer can solve more than one kind of problem.
Conventionally, a computer consists of at least one processing element, typically a central processing unit (CPU), and some form
of memory. The processing element carries out arithmetic and logic operations, and a sequencing and control unit can change the
order of operations in response to stored information. Peripheral devices allow information to be retrieved from an external source,
and the result of operations saved and retrieved.
Characteristics of Computer
SPEED : In general, no human being can compete to solving the complex computation, faster than computer.
ACCURACY : Since Computer is programmed, so what ever input we give it gives result with accuratly.
STORAGE : Computer can store mass storage of data with appropriate formate.
DILIGENCE : Computer can work for hours without any break and creating error.
VERSATILITY : We can use computer to perform completely different type of work at the same time.
POWER OF REMEMBERING : It can remember data for us.
NO IQ : Computer does not work without instruction.
NO FEELING : Computer does not have emotions, knowledge, experience, feeling
1. It is extremely fast,accurate and reliable it has speed reaching up to 100 million operations per second.
2. It can handle large volumes of repetitive tasks and accuracy make the computer very ideal for this kind of tasks.
3. It can store large amounts of information and can recall instantly.A computer keep on store large amounts of data and information in its
memory.
4.It can communicate with its operators and with other machines. It is capable of interactive processing in which the user is put in direct
communications with machine.
The computer can outperform human beings in speed, memory and accuracy but still the computer has limitations. There are following
limitations of a computer.
Programmed by human: Though computer is programmed to work efficiently, fast and accurately but it is programmed by human beings to
do so. Without a program, computer is nothing. A program is a set of instructions. Computer only follows these instructions. If the
instructions are not accurate the working of computer will not accurate.
Thinking:The computer can not think itself. The concept of artificial intelligence shows that the computer can think. But still this concept is
dependent on set of instructions provided by the human beings.
Self Care:A Computer can not care itself like a human. A computer is dependent still to human beings for this purpose.
Retrieval of memory:A computer can retrieve data very fast but this technique is linear. A human being's mind does not follow this rule. A
human mind can think randomly which a computer machine can not.
Feelings:One of the main limits in the computer is of feeling. A computer can not feel about some like a human. A computer can not meet
human in respect of relations.
Human can feel, think and caring but a computer machine itself can not.
A computer can not take place of human because computer is always dependent of human.
