National Office

For the past 7 weeks or so the National Office at Vale Street North Melbourne has been un-
dergoing refurbishment. This is nearly complete. The staff now have a pleasant working
environment in an office half its original size. The other half of the unit is to be leased as a
source of income for the RACI.

If you are in Melbourne please call into the office and meet the staff who are working for
the members.

During the Christmas period the office will be closed from 24 December until 4 January.

Report on the November Board and Assembly meetings

The outcomes of the facilitated workshop which were circulated to you in early November
were discussed. The Board adopted the purpose statement and recommendations. At the
Assembly meeting there was a presentation on the implementation of the recommenda-
tions. Board members have committed to the implementation of the outcomes by the end
of 2012.

The Marketing & Membership Officer is commencing in early January and at present recruit-
ment of a CEO for the organisation is being undertaken.

The Board members will be asking for your assistance over the next three years in putting
the workshop outcomes in place.

Science meets Parliament

FASTS is organising Science meets Parliament in Canberra from 9-10 March 2010. RACI will
again have the opportunity to send early career scientists to this annual event. Information
about Science meets Parliament is available at FASTS.org — About SmP. If you are inter-
ested in attending please send your nomination, including a brief CV and reason for interest
in attending, to the Honorary General Secretary, Vicki Gardiner, email
vicki.gardiner@marinova.com.au by 31 January 2010.

The Board meets four times a year, February and August and in May and November in con-
junction with Assembly.

Members’ Only Area on RACI Website

The Members’ Only Area on the RACI website is in the Membership section. A number of
different topics are covered in this section such as:
 Announcements from FASTS;
 Positions vacant;
 Financial forms;
 Constitution and By-laws;
 Annual reports;
 Members’ benefits which also has the 15% discount on all books including text books
available through DA books.
The latter is a very good incentive for students to join.
To access the area you will need your membership number and password.

SIS2010 18th International Symposium on Surfactants in Solution
