Dear Dr.

Brahmaiah
Kindly refer to your online submission of a paper entitled Morphometric
evaluation of corpus callosum in healthy individuals for publication in the
Indian Journal of Medical Research.
Your paper has been carefully eamined by the !ditorial Board of our Journal.
"he Board is of the opinion that the paper# in its present form# is not suitable
for publication for the reasons $iven in the attached note.
"han% you for submittin$ to the IJMR.

6. In this study# the authors attempted to find se.related differences in
morpholo$ical attributes of the corpus callosum '77- in the Indian sub8ects
usin$ 5uantitative MRI and their correlation 4ith a$in$. "hey believe that
because the cortical and subcortical brain re$ions often suffer in diseases and
in a$in$# correspondin$ chan$es in the 77 morpholo$y should be evident and
may be useful in dia$nosis certain disease processes. ( number of eistin$
reports indicate se differences of the 77. 9or eample# men possess lar$er
77 than that in 4omen: the splenium is lar$er in 4omen than in men# the
splenium is more tubular.shaped in males# but bulbous in females. ,o4ever#
other 77 attributes are not so clear.cut in their phenotypes.
;. My opinion about their overall findin$s is that nothin$ si$nificant came out of
this 4or% as ne4 observation# other than leavin$ some impressive ideas for
future 4or%ers.
<. "he authors found the len$th of 77 to be increased 4ith increasin$ a$e of
the individuals... but did not hi$hli$ht the probable reasons for this important
observation. &hy should this happen 4ith normal a$in$= (lthou$h not entirely
ne4# "a%eda et al. '6>>;- and +u$anthy et al. '6>>;- also reported the same
for the Japanese and Indian sub8ects# respectively: so this is an additional
support of their findin$s concernin$ the Indian sub8ects. But a$ain# consider
the report of &itelson '1?@?- /Brain 1163 A??.@;B2 describin$ 77 siCe to be
decreased 4ith chronolo$ical a$e in males# but not in females. Do you see
any reason to be so=
B. "he authors stated that the morphometric differences of the 77 in different
populations of the 4orld may be due to ethnic factors Dthis is acceptable# but
note that this is also due to other associated factors 'non.$enetic- that
influence postnatal brain $ro4th and connectivity. 9or eample# see a paper of
&itelson +9. '1?@B-. "he brain connection3 the corpus callosum is lar$er in

E. &idth of body and isthmus increases 4ith a$e.... Flease read a paper that
reported si$nificant decrease in 77 area 4ith a$in$ in a relatively lar$er $roup
of adults '(llen et al. 1??1: J )eurosci 113 ?;;.?<6-. (lso cite this 4or% 4ith
your relevant comment.
A. &idth of body and isthmus increases 4ith a$e. "hese structural alterations
may be probably due to the differences in co$nitive function of brain..... &hat
are those established differences in a$in$ brain that could influence
co$nition= (re there sufficient reasons to thin% alon$ this line# particularly
since no evidence or others vie4s presented in favour of this 'co$nition vs
