Remote Access User Guide



For accessing online journals via remote login from your personal
computer please go through steps mentioned below.

By Using the Remote Access Facility, You the user agree to the
following Conditions:

That You are a authorized user of Vikram Sarabhai Library (Limited
to current students and faculty members only)
That you will not share your access with anyone else (Usage of the
remote access facility is monitored, please do not share your login
credentials with any one)
That you will use the resources only for academic purpose

Please follow the steps to access the facility of Remote'XS

1. Send one fresh email on vslremote@iimahd.ernet.in
2. The subject (of the email) should be "proxy login" (without quotes).
3. The rest of the message (body) can be blank.
4. Once you send this mail, you will receive a login-id and password
within a few minutes.



NOTE: Once you receive the log-in and password then you have to
set the proxy configuration URL manually in the Browser as
mentioned below.


It is recommended that you use Mozilla Firefox as it is
the simplest and most straight-forward to set-up.

Click on Tools / Options / Advanced / Network / Settings




Click on Automatic Proxy Configuration URL: and copy following link in address line
http://www.iimahd.ernet.in/library/proxy_rule.pac and click ok




You may need to close and reopen Firefox before the new settings take effect.

Internet Explorer

Click on Tools / Internet Options / Connections / LAN Settings /
Select use automatic Configuration Script and copy following link in address line
http://www.iimahd.ernet.in/library/proxy_rule.pac and click ok
Do not check the "Automatically detect settings" box. Click on ok

You may need to close and reopen Internet Explorer before the new settings take effect.

If you are using dialup, broadband (including Reliance3G, Tata Photon etc), your connection
should be listed in the "Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings" box. Select the connection
you want to use and click on the Settings button. Please note that some broadband connections
may use a LAN type connection. If this is the case then choose the "LAN Settings" button. If you
are unsure of which option to choose, ask the IT Help desk. (Refer screen-shots below)

Google Chrome

Click on Tools/ Settings / Options / under the hood / Network / Change proxy settings /
LAN Settings

Safari
Safari on the Apple Mac uses shared settings that are held within the Network Preferences.
To set these:
Open System Preferences and select Network.
Select the network device you are using from the menu e.g. AirPort or Built-in
Ethernet.
Click on Advanced and select Proxies.
Select Using a PAC file from the drop-down menu.
Enter http://www.iimahd.ernet.in/library/proxy_rule.pac into the box
Click on OK.
Click on Apply.

After finishing above steps go to
http://www.iimahd.ernet.in/library/, select Online
Resources from the top Navigation menu and
select any online resource. You will be prompted
for a username and password for the first time.
Use the Username and Password that was mailed
to you.
