DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING Internal Sessional Exam-II Class:-S.E. A,B&C SUBJECT: APPLIED THERMODYNAMICS Marks: 20 Duration: 1:00 Hrs
Instruction: - 1 Solve any one bit from each question. 2 Assume suitable data whenever required. 3 Use of non programmable calculator is allowed. 4 Use of steam Table is allowed.
Q.1 a. The steam is supplied to a turbine at a pressure of 32 bar and a temperature of 410 0 C . The steam is then expands isentropically to a pressure of 0.08 bar. Find the dryness fraction of steam at the end of expansion and thermal efficiency of the cycle. If the steam is reheated at 5.5 bar to a temperature of 395 0 C and then expands isentropically to 0.08 bar, what will be the dryness fraction and thermal efficiency of the cycle. 8 b. In a steam power plant the condition of steam at inlet to turbine 20 bar and 300 0 C and the condenser pressure is 10 KPa. Two feed water heaters operates at 5 bar and 1bar. By neglecting the pump work. Determine: (a) The quantity of steam at turbine exhaust, (b) Net Work done (c) Thermal Efficiency 8 Q.1 a.
