The Tools and Service For Accurate Fracture Mapping
PINNACLE Fracture Mapping H A L 3 3 6 8 2 Pinnacle crew mapping a frac treatment in the Rocky Mountains. Real-time fracture mapping Measure height, length, azimuth Proven reliability Calibrate frac models Since 2001, Pinnacle has successfully mapped over 3000 hydraulic fracture treatments with borehole microseismic technology. Today Pinnacle performs about 80% of the hydraulic fracture mapping worldwide, including 100% of the tiltmapping and more than 70% of the microseismic fracmapping being performed. For nearly two decades scientists have been using sensitive listening devices along with earthquake seismology principles to hear the earth crack and pinpoint the location of the origin of that acoustic energy. Why the strong recent growth in microseismic mapping? A major breakthrough came as a result of the development of our downhole geophone array and telemetry system that has proven extremely capable and reliable in fracture mapping applications. TheTools Our typical array consists of 8-15 three-component geophones. Our standard tools are small (2.5 inch/63mm O.D. each weighing 40 lbs/14 kg) and feature onboard 24-bit digitization in each tool. Field-proven sensors are the Dual OMNI 2400 High Output Geophones which have excellent response from 01500 Hz (microseismic mapping requires much higher frequency response than typical borehole seismic applications). Te short, stif (62 inch/157 cm) titanium tools are tuned to minimize mechanical resonances and are rated at 275F (135C) and 20,000 psi (138 MPa). TheTelemetry 24-bit digital data is telemetered from each tool to the surface via our fber-optic wireline at 11Mbits/second. We typically acquire data at millisecond in order to best characterize these high frequency microseismic events. Tis telemetry rate is more than 20 times faster than telemetry systems currently operating with conventional 7-conductor electric wirelines and allows continuous recording of the higher frequency microseismic events. Tis telemetry system allows Pinnacle to utilize more microseismic tools AND sample them at higher frequencies which dramatically improves H A L 3 3 6 8 1 www.halliburton.com 2011 Halliburton. Our 24-bit digitization allows for maximum signal dynamic range, which improves the detection of small microseismic events. The Analysis Pinnacle uses proprietary sofware developed by Dr. Norm Warpinski, the former Sandia National Laboratories scientist now leading Pinnacles Technical Development Team. SeisPT is based on proven earthquake seismology techniques for locating the origin of microseisms or microearthquakes emitted during a hydraulic fracturing operation. Real-time fracture maps are available on-site and advanced processing may also be performed using special fltering techniques for signal extraction and Vidale-Nelson algorithms for advanced velocity modeling and source location. What You Get At your wellsite you get an experienced microseismic crew and petroleum engineer to help you make decisions based upon the real-time mapping results. Pinnacle performs our patentpending Perforation-Timing measurements to calibrate the velocity model and maximize event location accuracy. Final deliverables include microseismicevent locations and interactive 3D viewing sofware, a formal report with recommendations, and a geophysical quality control report. Additionally, our expanding long-term reservoir monitoring service has become the choice for operators in both oilfeld and geotechnical applications. 1500 1200 900 600 300 0 0.1 1 10 Frequency (Hz) 5 Hz OMNI 2400 - HORIZ Geophone Sensitivity N o r m a l i z e d R e s p o n s e Geophone Response is fat out to beyond 1500 Hz.
