CTP800-4T
The Light Helicopter Turbine Engine
Company ( LHTEC) is a joint venture between
Allison Engine and AlliedSignal Engines, and
has developed the CTP800- 4T turboprop for
the Ayres LM200 Loadmaster in which two
turboshaft engines drive a single Hamilton
Standard propeller through a GKX YV'estland
gearbox, the engine, a derivative of the T800
turboshaft, was selected over the Soloy Twin
Pac (see P&WC) because of the engine's later
technology. Testing started in early 1998, with
delivery of the first production units due in early
1999. Meanwhile, LHTEC is developing the
CTS800-50 as an uprated version. Hindustan
Aeronautics is hoping to use the CI"S800 for its
Advanced Light Helicopter, which it hopes to
certificate by the end of 1998.

PW150
The PVV150 is the newest member of the
PW100 family and the most powerful turbo-
prop ever produced by P&WC, which is con-
sidering offering it to replace Allison T56s now-
powering almost 1,500 Lockheed Martin C-
130s and 500 Lockheed P-3s. The PW150A
powered the Bombardier dc Havilland Dash
8Q Series 400 on its first flight on 31 January.
Certification of the engine is expected in June.
Despite its higher power rating, the power-
plant's newly designed reduction gearbox oper-
ates at only 1,020RPM at take-off, compared to
L200RPM for other PW100 family members,
and at 850RPM in the cruise. The PW150 has a
new three-stage, axial flow low pressure com-
pressor and a single-stage, centrifugal, high-
pressure compressor.

PT6
The PT6 has been produced in numerous mod-
els, many of which continue to be considered
viable contenders for new programmes.
Perhaps the latest applications is the use of two
PT6D-114As to drive a single propeller
through a combining gearbox on Soloy's
Pathfinder 21, a conversion of the Cessna 208B
Grand Caravan, while had its successful first
flight on 30 April. The engine competes with
the LHTEC CTP800.
PT6
The turboshaft version of the PT6 is used to
power the Sikorsky S-76B and Bell 412 heli-
copters, although the 101st and final PT6B-
powered S-76B left the production line in
December 1997.
PW206
Although the Bell 407 is powered by the Allison
250, which also powers Bell's 206 family and its
230 and 430 intermediate twins, the company
selected the PW206 for its 427. The PW206
also powers the Agusta A109 Power, Boeing
MD902 Explorer and Eurocopt erECl 3 5 light
twins. The PW206Ds used in the 427 are rated
at 477kW for take-off, with a 30s one-enginc-
inoperative rating of 574kW
The maximum transmission rating is 596kW
The main transmission is all new "flat-pack"
type with only four gear meshes and each engine
input-shaft drives through an integral free-
wheeling unit to a spiral-bevel mesh. A shaft on
this gear drives through a helical mesh to turn a
large collector gear, which drives the main-
rotor shaft.
