1. The reason why Socrates and Euthyphro are at the Porch of the King Archon is
because they are facing impeachment. In Socrates case (according to him), he is being
prosecuted by a young man who is named as Meletus for corrupting of the youth.
Meletus, according to Socrates, is accusing him of being a maker of Gods or of inventing
new Gods and extinguishing the existence of the old ones. On the other hand,
Euthyphros issue concerns doing a pious deed which is killing a murderer, which
happens to be his biological father. According to him, prosecuting somebody who has
done something unjust is something that can consider to be as a pious deed for killing a
person who committed a heavy crime, which is murder, should be put to death since it is
going to please the Gods.

2. The questions he brought up for Euthyphro to answer are related to piety and impiety
which he related to the relationship between reverence and fear, being loved and beloved,
pleasing and beneficial and attention. He asked these things because they represent piety
and impiety but in a different aspect.

3.
Euthyphro Socrates
My father murdered someone and has
became unjust, even if we live in the same
roof and are related biologically, i must
still proceed against him and this act is not
considered as impious because according to
the Gods, going against a criminal is a
pious act.

Piety is doing what I just did, which is to
kill my father who is guilty of murder.
Being related to him is not an exemption
because either way, he has committed a
terrible thing, and therefore, to follow the
Gods, it is proper to do the killing. On the
other hand, not killing my father will be
Is not piety in all aspects always the same?
If you think otherwise, tell me what you
think the meaning of piety and impiety are.

How sure are you that all of the tales of the
Gods are real? And my question is What
is piety? and you only gave an answer that
killing your father who is guilty of murder
is being pious. Would you please elaborate
on that?

I think that you have failed to answer my
question on what piety and impiety are, for
you agreed that the ones that are loved by
considered as impious. In summary, I am
just doing what is pious for the Gods.

Piety, then, is what is dear to the Gods and
impiety is what is not dear to them.

But Socrates, I believe that all Gods agree
that punishing a murderer is pious. There
would be no different opinions involved.

the Gods are also the same things hated by
them (For example, killing an innocent
person is hated by the Gods but killing a
prosecutor is dear to them). Thus, you
killing your father may be a pious act for a
certain God and it might be impious to
another, depending on their belief.

Therefore, can we say that all of the things
that the Gods hate are impious and all of
the things that they love are pious/holy.

4. There was no satisfaction in Socrates original question because the answers given by
Euthyphro are not well expounded on. Euthyphro, according to Socrates, is
knowledgeable but too lazy to voice out his thoughts. All of Euthyphros answers are just
mere agreements and disagreements to Socrates points, and whenever he asks Euthyphro
certain questions, his answer is just that he does what is holy for the Gods and this is his
main definition of piety. He answered this a couple of times in a different way, but all his
answers just ends up with the same context/meaning of doing whats good for the Gods.
Aside from this, Euthyphro left Socrates hanging for he decided to leave because he was
in a hurry.

5. I think that Socrates style of philosophizing is a step-by-step process. First, he will ask
questions that are similar to the original argument, and then he will ask another question
that is somehow similar to his next question, and so on, until he comes to a point wherein
his opponent or the one he is having an argument with still agrees with his question. After
this, he will relate it to the original argument and say that if you said that situation B is
correct, then how come situation A is incorrect for you? I think that this kind of
philosophizing is wise because it will really make you think and tackle upon the
argument that is being talked about.
