Q1. Consider a ten-storey building with its location (in Macau Region) and the wind direction (from the west) as shown in Fig.Q1. Assume all the four facades with equal permeability. According to Macau Wind Code 2008, determine: a) the wind pressures acting on the windward face and leeward face respectively; b) the equivalent overall wind pressures in the wind direction; c) the equivalent single wind load, resulting from Part b), acting on each storey; d) the wind pressure acting on the sidewalls; e) whether friction forces on walls and roof surfaces should be considered, and the magnitudes of these friction forces if any.

Q3. For the building shown in Fig. Q1, determine the horizontal seismic forces along the North-South direction for collapse prevention (ultimate limit state). The following assumptions are made: Permanent load (including self weights, finishes, partitions and services ) on each floor or roof is 8 2 / m kN , and imposed load on each floor or roof is 3 2 / m kN . A reinforced concrete frame structure with ordinary importance [Refer to Table IV.1 and Appendix B in LECM (2008)]. Behavior factor q =3.0, and the damping ratio =0.05. The soil profile consists of: one layer (10-meter thick) of gravel, one layer (10- meter thick) of clay, and then rock layer. The corresponding shear-wave velocities s v are given in Fig. Q3.
Q4. What are the (a) similarity and (b) major difference between Eurocode 1 (Actions) and Macao code for loadings (LECM 1998a)?
Q5. What are the (a) similarity and (b) major difference between Eurocode 2 and Macao code for structural concrete design (LECM 1998b), in term of material modeling?
