No cow slaughter on Shivaji Maharaj's Land: Devendra

Fadnavis

Maharashtra the land of cow-worshippers like Chatrapati Shivaji, Lokmanya
Tilak, Dr Hedgewar etc, has unfortunately become the land of slaughter
houses, in which more than 25 lakh cows are being slaughtered every year
to export their meat to several countries.

1. Chatrapati Shivaji chopped off the hand of a cruel butcher who was
forcefully dragging a cow for her slaughter. At that time, Shivaji was
just a teen and his blood started boiling seeing the Gau Mata streaming
tears from her eyes and wailing for the safety of her life.
2. Lokmanya Tilak used Ganesha and Gau (Cow) as symbols to unite
Indians together and inspire them to struggle against British rule.
Seeing the cow's blood flowing on India's land, once he cried with
agonized heart before a crowd, Kill me but spare the cow! He had
dreamt that immediately after India's freedom, cow slaughter would
be completely banned with just a tip of the pen.
3. Dr Hedgewar changed his resolution to join Congress, when Gandhi
refused to put cow slaughter in the agendas of Nagpur session, making
Hedgewar felt deeply shocked.
4. Dr Ambedkar had put stress on cow protection in Constitution of India
realizing the significance of cows. Article 48 of Indian Constitution
(Directive Principles of State Policy) clearly states that government
must protect cow, its progeny and other cattle used in agriculture, not
just because the cows are sacred to Hindus but because cows have
been the backbone of agriculture and milk production in India.
5. Guruji Golwarkar had launched All India forum of Committee for ban
on cow-slaughter, in which popular cow-devotee saints from all
across the nation participated. In support of cow-slaughter ban, he
collected signatures of around 1 crore 75 lakhs nationwide citizens
inhabiting cities as well as small to big villages. Bringing all these
signatures in Delhi, Guruji sent them in 22 bull-carts on 7 Dec, 1952 to
Indian president Dr Rajendra Prasad.

Cows' plight in Today's Maharashtra

1. Cow slaughter is banned in state after the enactment of Maharashtra
Animal Preservation Act (MAPA) in 1976. But cows can be slaughtered
after getting Fit for Slaughter' certificate from Municipal Corporation.
For making the cows useless and fit for slaughter, butchers inflict upon
them several types of atrocities. Cows and calves are kept hungry and
thirsty for several days, they are tightly packed in the truck, their tails
are cut, legs are broken and eyes are poked, so that this kind of Fit for
Slaughter' certificate could be obtained after proving their
uselessness.
2. Responding to BJP leader Rajnath Singh's demand for a law for ban on
cow slaughter, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar had stated on Feb
06, 2013 that central govt is not in favour of this law, as it does not
want to put extra burden on farmers of maintaining old and useless
animals. He questioned that if cow slaughter would be banned, where
we would keep so many cows. Pawar, who owns piggeries and
poultries himself, dismissed cow slaughter merely as the disposal of
useless animals.
3. While under Congress-led UPA government, India emerged as world's
largest beef exporter, under Congress-NCP government Maharashtra
has become the state, whose Deonar Abattoir is the largest slaughter-
house in India as well as in entire Asia. This abattoir has been
approved by United Arab Emirates for exporting meat to Arabian
countries, thus bringing recognition to Mumbai in the international
meat trade.

Here, daily over 4000 animals (cows, buffalos, goats) are killed. It utilizes 17
lac liters water daily and too much electricity, while the state is facing acute
shortage of water and electricity. Mumbai Municipal Corporation is
modernizing it spending Rs. 125 crore to kill more animals and earn more
money by exporting their meat to several other countries.

4. According to Maneka Gandhi's letter dated June 16, 2012, published in
People for Animals, India, thousands of cows from all across
Maharashtra are brought at Deonar Abattoir and then killed illegally.
She received more than 200 letters complaining about illegal cow
slaughter. Mumbai's non-vegetarians demand the meat of pregnant
and milking cows. Hence, pregnant cows' udders are sold with meat to
assure buyers that they are eating the meat of mother cows. Maneka
Gandhi also holds video clips of cows, which were being milked just
ten minutes before their heads mercilessly cut off.
5. In 2009, Indian beef was 8% of world beef trade, which has alarmingly
increased to 25% in just 3 years, as per USDA report in Nov 2012. For
catering to the continuously increasing meat demands of Islamic
countries and West Asia, large numbers of illegal slaughter houses are
being opened and cows are being trafficked all across the nation
including Maharashtra. State govt is reopening the illegal abattoirs,
which were shut down due to protest of Hindus.

CM Prithviraj Chavan reopened Kolhapur slaughter house on November 10,
2011 on the occasion of Bakri-Eid. This abattoir was closed since last one
year. Now, Mumbai SP leader Abu Azmi has demanded on July 17, 2014 from
CM to set up temporary abattoirs for Bakri-Eid all across the state.

Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation restarted Pimpri abattoir on
October 16, 2013 even after the Pollution Control Board's shut down order.
Moreover, the construction of 3000 Crore Rupees of abattoir on 75 acre
agricultural land of Morba (Raigad) was started, which was to be even larger
than Deonar abattoir (65 acre). But, after Hindus-Jains protests, govt had to
stop its construction in Jan 2014. Now, construction of biggest abattoir at
Dharashiv (Usmanabad) on 150 acres of land is in the pipeline.

Cow devotees have raised protest against illegal abattoirs running in
Malegaon, Phalatan (Satara), Nanded, Nalasopara (Thane) and several other
places. Abattoirs are also planned at New Mumbi, Meera-Bhyandar and
Bhiwandi.

6. In order to promote meat production, APFPEDA is offering 25% to
60% subsidy on meat transportation, pre-cooling facilities, cold
storage, quality control, brand publicity, packaging development etc.
There is also exemption from sales tax and income tax. Running these
automated export-oriented abattoirs, companies earn immense
profits.

The cow meat trade has led to milk shortage and severely depleted the
numbers of cows, which greatly contribute to agriculture, upon which 90%
population of India depends. On small land, bullocks are used for ploughing.
Cow provides Panchagavya (milk, ghee, curd, urine and dung), which is used
in daily life. Cows' urine and dung is used in medicines as well as bio-
fertilizer, which is the foundation stone of organic farming and need of
future.

Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, who promoted White Revolution' (milk
production) and Green Revolution' (agriculture) in his state, has censured
many times UPA's Pink Revolution' (meat production) and subsidies to
promote it. Feeling distressed over centre's policy, Modi stated that there is
no subsidy for farmers for rearing cattle but Congress is offering subsidies
to those who slaughter cows. Modi also slammed Sharad Pawar over this
issue in 2013, but Pawar made pretension that Centre was not involved in
increasing meat export.

7. Cow slaughter makes adverse effect on the environment as well as
people's health. Abattoirs produce solid waste (carcass, bones, hooves,
rumen, intestine contents, dung etc.), liquid waste (blood, urine,
internal fluids including water used for washing) and gas waste (bad
odour from burning of fat, meat, bones, hooves and solid waste,
presence of dirt). After accumulation and decomposition, solid and
liquid waste causes breeding of flies, insects, mosquitoes, attracts
rodents & vermin, pollutes land and water even killing animals
drinking it and engenders diseases like typhoid and paratyphoid, fever,
malaria, diarrhoea/dysentery, cholera, hookworm, other intestinal
infections etc. Liquid waste is released in the river without any effluent
treatment and then contaminates the water. Further, gas waste causes
headache, body ache, loss of appetite, vomiting, excessive coughs,
breathiness and other ailments.

As per scientists, Deonar Abattoir is one of the key reasons of earthquakes
in latur and tsunami in India. While being slaughtered, animals cry, which
emit Einstenian pain Waves (EPW), which contribute in earth vibration
during earthquakes.

8. Willingly turning a blind eye towards decreasing milk production and
cows, environmental and health hazards, the cow-eater secular' media
people start making noise in support of cow butchers and eaters,
whenever cow-worshipper Hindus raise protest against cow-slaughter
and demand enactment of a law for its prevention.
9. As per Maharashtra BJP president Devendra Fadnavis, today holy cow
cries in the abattoirs, hence nation country needs animal husbandries
instead of abattoirs. He added that govt offer subsidies to save tigers
which kill cows; but it is handing over cows, revered by Hindus, in the
hands of butchers. It is highly condemnable to set up slaughter houses
on the land of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Fadnavis has recently
promised 100% cow slaughter ban if BJP comes to power in state in
upcoming elections.

Take pledge that I will never vote for the government, which supports cow
slaughter! Make resolve that not even single cow get slaughtered on Shivaji
Maharaj's Land!
