When I pause to consider what has transpired over the last four years, I am flled with wonder. From our frst fight to China with both children on our laps to last week celebrating our daughters seventh birthday in Vancouver, the journey has been flled with surprises. We would have never charted this course ourselves. God has been our captain, guiding us with the wind of His Spirit, leading us to shores we never before dreamed of seeing. Our work here in Vancouver is diferent in many ways than our ministry in Hohhot, but in the essentials it has remained the same. Tese last couple months I have been settling into my role as a pastor at CTBC by getting to know the church family, building levels of trust and relationships, and seeking to understand their needs and how to apply the Word of God to meet them. I have been teaching a series from the book of Ephesians on life in the body of Christ. In the short time that we have been here, the Lord has burdened my heart for His people and moved me to pray with the Apostle Paul that the eyes of their understanding would be enlightened and that they would know the hope of His calling, the rich- es of His glory, and the greatness of His power. I have also been concerned with doing the work of an evangelist. Recently we held a summer youth camp in the mountains north of Vancouver. We hiked the Chief, swam under a frigid waterfall, camped in the woods, slept on the hard ground, and preached from the life of Mosesa fellow wanderer in the wilderness. Of the 35 or so in atten- dance, at least a dozen are unsaved; several had even just arrived from China. Afer each message, the camp broke out into discussion groups to review the message, talk about personal applications, pray, and (most importantly) to share the Gospel with those who are yet without Christ. As the weeks carry on, the weather cools, the leaves change color and thoughts of fall fll our hearts, we hope to con- tinue with more of the same: doing the work of an evangelist, feeding the fock of God, and equipping the saints for the ministry, till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ (Ephesians 4:13). As I consider this life that God has allowed us to leada life spent serving the King of Kings and Lord of LordsI realize how truly blessed I am, and my heart flls with gratitude to you for making it possible. Tank you. And may God supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. In Christ, Jacques van Rooyen For the Work of the Ministry
